Until they were concentrated in the ghettos, they were not fully aware of the great danger they were in. Nobody could have imagined that the Germans would decide to kill them en masse and that extermination camps established especially for them would be used for this. Left to themselves, wanting to survive, they had to take up various forms of struggle. Not everyone was able to hide on the Aryan side to avoid deportation to a camp or slow vegetation in the ghetto. Each attempt to save a life was a heroic act of opposing the extermination that the Germans had planned for all Jews. It was much more difficult to oppose them in concentration camps, where there was a permanent struggle and human life was of no value. Faced with the constant threat, the Jews decided to fight not only to preserve their lives, which were of the highest value, but also the dignity that the SS men tried to kill in them in the camps.The uprisings in Auschwitz, Sobibór and Treblinka prove that the prisoners had a great will to live. Similarly, revolts and uprisings in the ghettos showed that the imprisoned Jews were able to oppose the extermination policy of Nazi Germany.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86012696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its analysis focuses on the share of pre-election rhetoric that involved criticising political opponents, how far this criticism concerned incompetence and how far dishonesty, and which of the competing actors were attacked by the representatives of respective parties. The empirical analyses were conducted with the new Comparative Campaign Dynamics Dataset, which had not been used before in Polish scholarly literature. The results indicate that in Poland the intensity of negative campaigns has increased since 2015 and parties tend to use them in a manner consistent with the strategic premises resulting from their position in the party system. The representatives of new opposition parties, those with a weak position in an election and actors with an anti-systemic profile are more predisposed to criticise others.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73369822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It focuses on the following questions: Did Abramowski notice the asymmetry in the positions of men and women? Did he consider it necessary to maintain the gender status quo or to liberate women?The first article reconstructs, in the spirit of literal exegesis, what Abramowski wrote about the situation of women throughout history. The second article considers why Abramowski took this and not another position, and its interpretation is based on an analysis of the external determinants of Abramowski’s thought. The third article explains the meaning and function of Abramowski’s view in his time and distinguishes its supra-historical content.The following arguments support the legitimacy of separating reconstruction from interpretation. Reconstruction (Part I) provides a basis for verifying theses and reasons that appear in interpretations (Parts II and III). None of the interpretations ends (Parts II and III) with the same knowledge that initiates it (Part I). Besides, the results of the two interpretations (Parts II and III) do not coincide. It is also important that the issues discussed in the articles are controversial. Abramowski is a leading fi gure in the history of the Polish socialist movement, Polish philosophy, sociology and psychology. He polarises the world of science but outside it, some circles also perceive him as a positive fi gure, while others as a negative one. The same applies to attitudes to the exploitation and liberation of women. Additionally, ‘young’ Abramowski is surprising, while his story about inter-sex relations is not predictable or obvious.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"505 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77073390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors recall the history of female forms in the language. Referring to pre-war journalism, discussions in the journal Poradnik Językowy [The Linguistic Guide] and the propaganda lexis of communist Poland, they prove that female forms are not foreign to the Polish language. They create a comprehensive list of reasons why feminatives have disappeared from Polish, taking account of both intra-linguistic and extra-linguistic factors. The authors refer to examples from contemporary media and public discourse to show gender asymmetry in the language and the mechanisms of its operation. The article ends with an attempt to fi nd a solution to the current situation based on the practices of the Polish feminist community and English-speaking communities.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81441509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The choice of specific elements of the imaginarium is dictated by their rank and their political and social impact, as well as their links with the recent and current political and social reality (the Cold War period, the transformation years in Central and Eastern Europe, the ongoing migration crisis). The author considers the sources, transformations and activation of political myths and the specificity of political stories and structures, as well as the political and social functions that they perform. The significant motif of this article is related to the thought of Hans Blumenberg. The work on political myth is linked with the ‘socio-political’ need for significance and understanding of the processes, phenomena and events taking place in the social and political domain.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"86 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77146132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It concerns the radical criticism of modern democracy functioning in systemic forms such as liberal democracy, the democratic state of law and consensual democracy. This criticism is undertaken by a group of leading researchers including Giorgio Agamben, Alain Badiou, Étienne Balibar, Maurice Blanchot, Judith Butler, Ernesto Laclau, Claude Lefort, Jean--François Lyotard, Chantal Mouffe, Jean-Luc Nancy, Antonio Negri, Slavoj Žižek and Jacques Rancière. The article presents the views of Jacques Rancière, one of the main thinkers on post-democracy. He has been selected because he presents his critique of modern democracy insightfully, using language that refers to the tradition of European philosophy.Rancière believes that in contemporary democracy its basic subject – demos – becomes increasingly invisible and unrecognised, and that it is impossible to argue about the participation of entities in demos, a dispute that constitutes the essence of democracy and modern politics. He thinks that contemporary democracy obscures its true character and thus falsifies it, at the same time as invariably referring to its ethos. The reasoning presented in this article is an immanent analysis of Jacques Rancière’s texts, particularly La mesentante (1995) and also La haine de la democratie (2005) and Dix theses sur la politique (in: idem Aux bords du politique, 1998). The author suggests that these works contain reasons that should encourage in-depth reflection on contemporary democracy, particularly as referring to demos in the practice of political democracy is nowadays often considered a harmful mistake, giving rise to accusations of populism.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82692044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research based on the use of the analysis of EPs and EuPPs documents proves that the political affiliation of the MEPs does not determine their activity focused on urban policy. It is therefore difficult to grasp the relationship between the MEPs activity and the fact of belonging to a particular EPPG, the ‘size’ (representation) of EPPGs, as well as the actions conducted by EuPPs.
