Obyczaje funeralne sowieckich elit partyjnych","authors":"Krzysztof Jasiewicz","doi":"10.35757/stp.2023.51.1.07","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35757/stp.2023.51.1.07","url":null,"abstract":"Soviet funeral practices for members of the state elite are built on two factors. They use the achievements of antiquity and the Bible, and depend on the position of the deceased at the time of their death. On the one hand, ‘elite’ refers to the highest-ranked representatives of the Soviet authorities (primarily the first secretaries of the party and marshals of the army and sometimes very meritorious activists). The custom of mummification, which was taken from antiquity and the Bible, was used for Lenin and Stalin. However, what was done with the bodies of these two most important Soviets was actually thanatopraxis, which involves replacing blood in the bloodstream immediately after death by introducing in its place a fluid with a strictly protected chemical composition that preserves the corpse from the inside. Piłsudski’s body was also subjected to thanatopraxis after death. This method is still used today by families of various magnates and of important mafia people. The second factor is the evaluation of a given person by successors. When speaking of special burial sites, except for the two aforementioned figures, others were buried next to Lenin’s mausoleum (formerly, from 1953 to 1956, Lenin’s and Stalin’s, then only Lenin’s until modern times). All the first/general secretaries of the Communist Party are buried there, except Nikita Khrushchev. He did not deserve a proper burial as he had thrown Stalin’s body out of the mausoleum into an earthen grave and revealed a veil of state secrets in a secret report on the cult of personality and its disastrous consequences on the party elite, which at that time had only been bestowed by Stalin. He was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery. It is also a very prestigious burial place for many prominent Soviets. There are also several other Moscow necropolises, which served as the resting place of equally distinguished comrades as space at the Novodevichy Cemetery was reduced.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135960516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three stages of the Fund’s development have been distinguished: 2017–2018: the period from the emergence of the concept to the signing of the letter of intent to establish the fund; 2018–2020: fine-tuning the legal and financial framework; from 2020, in which the fund, as a new investment entity, began its commercial operations. In each of the three indicated stages, the relationship between the fund and the Three Seas Initiative developed differently. In the first and second stages, the fund was a concept whose implementation depended on the state of cooperation under the Three Seas Initiative. It was treated as a potential subsidy instrument, but over time this concept has changed. In the third stage, the fund became an independent legal entity, registered under Luxembourg law, with its statute, authorities and seat. While the Three Seas Initiative remains a loose form of cooperation, the fund is a clearly defined legal entity. It is intended to increase investment in Central Europe and generate profits for investors on a commercial basis. The Three Seas Fund is a different entity from the perspective of investors in the legal and financial dimension than for researchers of international relations. The Fund’s activity in the investment field affects cooperation under the Three Seas Initiative.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135960511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Historical research on his political thought has preserved his image as a ‘philosophical Jacobin’, who had an affirmative stance toward political violence and was an apologist for revolutionary activity, the ultimate goal of which was to be ‘the end of history’. The article aims to present an alternative narrative based on new research and sources that show that his thought is much more nuanced. Firstly, it is claimed that the context of his work should be found primarily in Russian religious philosophy and relations with Russian intellectuals in exile. Secondly, the infl uence of geopolitical changes in the first half of the twentieth century on the evolution of his political concepts is emphasised. Thirdly, his critical attitude to revolutionary theories is discussed. Finally, the article concludes with a presentation of the views of ‘mature’ Kojève as one of the creators of the vision of modern European universalism based on a specific ideal of justice and the desire for a lasting peace ending the post-Enlightenment chaos full of brutal wars and revolutions.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135960717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main crackdown on the underground occurred between August 1944 and April 1947. In the first year after the communists took power, the Soviets and the structures of the repression apparatus created in Lubartów took the main role in smashing the local underground. Its Polish officers mostly came from rural backgrounds and were poorly educated and trained. Ethnically, they were mostly Poles. However, at the District Public Security Office (PUBP) in Lubartów, two of the first three PUBP managers were Ukrainians by origin. The section that was responsible for fighting the underground was initially headed by a Jew, who was succeeded by a Ukrainian. Despite their low level of education and training, it was security office (UB) officers who were victorious in the crackdown on the local underground. Soviet assistance, violence and lawlessness guaranteed success.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135960510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also a core identity reference for Armenians and a matter of memory dispute with the Turkish Republic. Since the 1970s, it has been a relevant research space for historians. Surprisingly, in Polish historiography, the subject is only marginally addressed, and its bibliography is puzzlingly limited. The article aims to discuss the Polish historiography of the Armenian Genocide in the broader context of world research. The description of the number of Polish inputs devoted to the Armenian Genocide provides background for the main research problem – a reflection on the shape of genocide narratives created by Polish historians. This makes it possible to indicate the discursive structures that determine the historical narratives on the Armenian Genocide. Hypothetically, they result from both the time in which they were created and the authors’ axiology and worldview. The article is divided into two parts. The first, in addition to the introduction and description of the state of research, focuses on the interpretation of all Polish historical texts concerning the issue of the Armenian Genocide. A critical analysis is devoted to both compact monographs and broader historical works in which reference is made to the issue of the genocide, above all in the context of the historiography of the declining period of the Ottoman Empire.","PeriodicalId":34824,"journal":{"name":"Srodkowoeuropejskie Studia Polityczne","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135960718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the analysis of materials available on the official websites of the European Commission (EC), it addresses the issues involved in the assumptions of the deinstitutionalisation policy, its main stakeholders, the place it occupies in EU priorities, implementation instruments and ways of setting the boundaries of deinstitutionalisation in the area of social assistance. It discusses terminological issues, including sociological interpretations of the concept of deinstitutionalisation and the resulting connotations with Erving Goffman’s concept of total institution. It analyses the most important documents related to addressing these issues at the EU level and their implementation. It also contains selected important elements involved in monitoring and evaluating deinstitutionalisation processes in Member States before the coronavirus pandemic, considered from the perspective of common indicators for children, children with disabilities, adults with disabilities, adults with mental health problems and seniors.
