This trend is based on the final appearance, which should be as aesthetic and as close to natural teeth as possible. The use of Icon DMG can be considered revolutionary in the treatment of white spot lesions (WSLs) caused by various factors. (2) Methods: A diagnosis was established after clinical inspection, transillumination, or based on the patient’s medical history. Icon infiltration was followed according to the producer’s indications. Chromatic stability was assessed by two examinators with Vitapan 3D Master, and gum health improvement was assessed using the gingival index (GI). (3) Results: Ten dental units were observed for one year and showed chromatic stability. Gum health was improved. No side effects occurred. (4) Conclusions: An easy, non-invasive technique and painless treatment are the desired results from the use and implementation of resin in current practice. Following the infiltration protocol offers the desired aesthetic results.","PeriodicalId":34611,"journal":{"name":"Timisoara Medical Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83534558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(2) Material and methods: Fifty-three Swiss albino male mice were used for this study. Hepatic and thoracic aorta toxicity caused by 2 or 6 h exposures to APAP (300 mg/kg intraperitoneally (i.p.)) were evaluated. The general NOS inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME: 25 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg, i.p.) and the neuronal NOS inhibitor 7-nitroindazole (7-NI: 15 mg/kg, i.p.) were administered one hour before APAP exposure. (3) Results: Significant morphological deteriorations were observed after 6 h of APAP exposure in histopathological examinations of hepatic sections. Pre-treatment with L-NAME (at 50 mg/kg) or 7-NI before a 6 h APAP exposure significantly decreased hepatic toxicity (p < 0.05). Significant increases in ALT levels in 6 h of APAP exposure were decreased by both L-NAME (with the 25 mg/kg but not at 50 mg/kg) and 7-NI pre-treatments. No significant change was observed in the measured nitrate/nitrite levels and total antioxidant status in either serum or liver homogenates. No significant deteriorations were observed during either hematoxylin-eosin or immunohistochemical staining in thoracic aorta sections. In the thoracic artery sections, no statistical difference was found in acetylcholine-mediated relaxation, which may indicate endothelial dysfunction. (4) Conclusions: This study demonstrated that APAP-induced hepatic toxicity, especially neuronal NOS inhibitors, may decrease hepatic toxicity. It was also shown that APAP-induced hepatic toxicity was not accompanied by vascular dysfunction.","PeriodicalId":34611,"journal":{"name":"Timisoara Medical Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82912685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(2) Material and methods: Data of 147 patients from the Surgery Clinic 1 of the County Clinical Hospital of Timisoara who underwent an elective surgery for colon cancer treatment were statistically analyzed using statistical tests such as Anova or Chi square with a p < 0.05 considered to be statistically significant. (3) Results: Differences between preoperative and postoperative parameters were correlated with the duration of surgery (hemoglobin, p = 0.014). The average length of hospital stay was correlated with the difference between the preoperative and postoperative level of hemoglobin (p = 0.043). There was a direct correlation between the length of postoperative hospital stay and the difference between the plasmatic levels of albumin (p = 0.033). There were differences in the average Charlson index value of patients who required albumin, with no statistical significance. (4) Conclusions: The difference between preoperative and postoperative levels of biological parameters (hemoglobin, albumin, total protein) has an influence on the management of patients with colon cancer undergoing elective surgery, affecting the number of days the patients spend in the hospital after the surgical procedure, as well as the total number of days spent in the hospital (from day one to discharge). The greater the variation of those differences, the longer recovery period needed, showing that an early correction of those parameters can lead to a shorter hospital stay, a faster postoperative recovery and a shorter postoperative hospital stay.","PeriodicalId":34611,"journal":{"name":"Timisoara Medical Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89667884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although there are efficient vaccines against this virus, rapid detection remains essential for controlling its spread. The gold standard for the COVID-19 diagnostic is the use of quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) from naso-/oro-pharyngeal swabs and, alternatively, saliva specimens. A faster alternative to the RT-qPCR method, the colorimetric reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (cLAMP) has a good sensitivity and specificity and has been proposed as an efficient screening method. In this study, we analyzed several sets of LAMP primers for COVID-19 testing using purified RNA samples and raw saliva samples, and tested several reaction conditions. Our results showed that the sensitivity of cLAMP reactions on raw saliva samples can be significantly augmented by the addition of guanidine hydrochloride to levels, which allow its use for COVID-19 screening.","PeriodicalId":34611,"journal":{"name":"Timisoara Medical Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74359167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The issue of posture is frequently discussed in the literature due to its significant contribution in the etiology of musculoskeletal disorders, but never enough to encourage all dentists to adopt safe, healthy working positions. (2) Methods: This article presents the arguments that justify the attention needed to be paid to the balanced posture recommended to dentists and goes further and outlines a logical model that could help in maintaining a balanced posture as much as possible during the therapeutic act. Describing the balanced posture alone has a limited practical utility, and thus we have detailed the aspects that involve the spatial relationship of the doctor with the patient sitting on the dental chair. (3) Results: An optimal working distance and postural symmetry are the main objectives to be considered, each of them being conditioned by several elements. These elements have been detailed throughout the article, always taking into account the realities of the daily practice, with its challenges and limitations. (4) Conclusions: A greater attention paid to maintaining the optimal working position provides doctors the chance to perform their activity in comfortable and safe conditions.","PeriodicalId":34611,"journal":{"name":"Timisoara Medical Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81324984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diagnosing and managing mitral regurgitation is often challenging and requires a structured approach, integrating findings on history, physical examination and imaging. A common cardiac anomaly is myxomatous mitral valve prolapse. Excess myxomatous leaflet tissue, bileaflet prolapse or billowing, chordae elongation and annular dilatation are all features of Barlow’s disease. Currently, there is no successful pharmacological treatment available to prevent or slow its progression. Here, we report the case of a 30-year-old male patient, with no previous significant medical background and no medication at home, who was diagnosed with severe mitral regurgitation at a regular check-up and was admitted to our clinic with mild exertion dyspnea and fatigue. Transthoracic echocardiography showed intensely thickened mitral leaflets with a myxomatous appearance, prolapse of the middle scallop of the posterior leaflet (P2), apparently with ruptured chordae, and severe mitral regurgitation with a holosystolic eccentric jet. While oxidative stress is a central pathomechanism of cardiovascular disease, information regarding valvular oxidative stress in the literature is rather scarce. In this respect, we assessed oxidative stress through confocal microscopy in a sample of a mitral valve harvested during valvular surgery. We found an increased production of reactive oxygen species in the mitral valve sample that was alleviated after incubation with the angiotensin 2 receptor type I (AT1) antagonist irbesartan. This case is worth mentioning as a starting point for a prospective study aimed at assessing the role of valvular oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in patients with various degrees of primary and secondary mitral regurgitation.","PeriodicalId":34611,"journal":{"name":"Timisoara Medical Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79079657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study evaluates the demographic features, risk indicators, feto–maternal outcome, and treatment options in PAS women at our center. (2) Methods: This is a retrospective study carried out in 39 patients with placenta accreta spectrum in our tertiary health care center Sri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, from July 2019 to September 2020. (3) Results: Most patients in our study were in the 30–35 years age group. The previous lower segment Caesarean section (LSCS) was the most critical risk factor for PAS in our research. Thirty-two of the women with PAS (82.05%) had undergone a hysterectomy, and eight patients did not undergo a hysterectomy. Twenty-eight patients needed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care, 13 of them required ventilatory support, and three of them died due to hemorrhagic shock. In our study, preterm birth occurred in 26 patients (53.84%), while 21 (53.8%) required Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admission, and six (15.4%) had early neonatal death and stillbirth. (4) Conclusion: PAS is a devastating event in women’s pregnancy. It leads to high maternal morbidity, mortality, and adverse neonatal outcome. The critical risk indicators for PAS are previous LSCS and placenta previa. Every case with these two concurrent conditions should be operated on in a planned way in the presence of senior obstetricians and of an anesthesiology team.","PeriodicalId":34611,"journal":{"name":"Timisoara Medical Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86819264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
