The system is built on the basis of a hierarchical classification of concepts. Each node in the hierarchical structure represents a malfunction hypothesis. The knowledge is represented by forward-chaining production rules. The organization of rules emulates an expert's approach in problem solving. A control strategy termed 'propose-refine' is used that proposes a set of possible malfunctions and refines them depending on the prevailing situation. Incorporation of judgemental knowledge and uncertainty management are discussed. The expertise embedded in the system is based on the judgemental knowledge obtained from the experts in the field of automobile trouble-shooting.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":345412,"journal":{"name":"[1988] Proceedings. First, a theoretical lower bound for performance is established. The use of currently available systolic arrays is considered. These arrays feature advanced characteristics such as nonplanar interconnections and multimode processing elements The arrays are provided with additional features to increase computational speed. The best performance obtained is still inferior to the theoretical optimum. The basic design procedure and some of the important factors affecting forging die design are explained from the viewpoint of expert-system methodology. The requirements of a good database and heuristic rules which help in reaching an optimal design goal for this particular design problems are discussed. An overview of the use of this system for designing a forging die and constructing forging geometry is provided. Attribute grammars are among the best formalisms to specify the translation and semantics of the programming languages. The evaluator presented accomplishes the attribute evaluation in only one bottom-up pass, using two FIFO queues. The first queue holds the leaf attributes with known values the attribute queue. The reverse dependency graph shows the dependency of the attributes on each other and the other in which they are evaluated. These attributes give their values to their predecessor attributes. A predecessor attribute needs these values in order to be evaluated. The system hardware consists of a uniform-diameter pinhole camera, photodetector, and sample/hold and analog-to-digital converting circuits. The high-precision algorithm is based on the numerically derived intensity distribution of the solar image. Normally, a dispatcher is responsible for evaluating information received from both customers and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) sources. The goal of using an expert-system approach is to speed up the search for the cause of the disturbance by applying a heuristic strategy based on past operating experience, the probability associated with a possible event and the configuration of the feeder. Potential contingencies are identified through the use of a hybrid strategy that has both heuristic and algorithmic components. The authors provide an introduction to the distribution fault identification problem, a discussion on the heuristic aspects of this problem, and a description of how such a system can be implemented.
