The relationship between transmission T and normalized frequency has been investigated by curve fitting. It is found that the calculated transmission curve fits the Lorentz function very well, which simplify the calculation of T and better understanding the propagation behavior of electromagnetic wave in the microcavity.","PeriodicalId":345360,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Workshop on Metamaterials","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126337963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using the tapered sized frequency selective surface (FSS) on the cover and the inversely tapered sized artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) on the base as well as removing the four corners of the cover and base for the weak aperture field there, a common (VSWRles 2.0:1 & -1 dB gain-drop) bandwidth of 9.84% centered at 10 GHz and a common bandwidth of 7.9% centered at 10.5 GHz are obtained respectively in simulation and measurement. In the design of electromagnetic cloak or mask, for symmetric and simple shapes, we can easily and directly obtain their analytical solutions. However, when we deal with arbitrary shapes, we must resort to numerical analysis methods (FDTD or FEM, etc.), in which it is inevitable to discretize the region into mesh. Since the formulas in Cartesian coordinate are available already, it is necessary to generalize them to cylindrical and spherical systems. As expected, they are finally given using computer algebra system-Maple.","PeriodicalId":345360,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Workshop on Metamaterials","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117276291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This novel coupler characterizes good isolation. Besides, its coupling coefficient can be easily designed by tuning the turns ratio of transformers and its operating frequency can be additionally designed by tuning the series inductance and parallel capacitance. A prototype of 20 dB-coupler is proposed to show the design procedure of chiral cascaded circuit-based coupler, which is validated by Aglientpsilas ADS simulation.","PeriodicalId":345360,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Workshop on Metamaterials","volume":"16 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131090994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The propagation of electromagnetic waves within a certain frequency region are forbidden, is known as photonic band gap (PBG). As a kind of advanced optical material, photonic crystals have exhibited extensive applications to optical field such as laser, optical fiber, and quantum optical devices. Compared with traditional photonic crystal with isotropic PBG, anisotropic photonic crystal attracts researcherspsila more interest for its peculiar properties. Recently, we constructed a kind of anisotropic photonic crystal by stretching polymer inverse opal. By uniaxial stretching process, the refractive index of some polymer became anisotropic, which could cause the anisotropy of PBG. The original air spheres in inverse opal became elliptic with the major axis parallels to the stretching direction but without destroying the structural ordering. As result, the PBG is anisotropic and dependent on the direction of linearly polarized light. Showing in reflection spectrum, the position reflection peak shifted when the polarizing direction of linearly polarized light change from the direction parallel to the drawing axis to perpendicular direction. Such unique optical properties of the anisotropic photonic crystal provided a new approach for the separate design of the stopband at different polarization. Applications in polarizing display, polarizing beamsplitter, polarization-holding optical waveguide, and so on are anticipated.","PeriodicalId":345360,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Workshop on Metamaterials","volume":"208 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128164817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two kinds of symmetric TOLRs combinations, vertex to vertex (V-V) and side to side (S-S), are analyzed and manufactured. The parameter retrieval algorithm is used to retrieve the constitutive parameters and the transmission experiments are carried out through waveguide measurements. The results show each transmission peak does appear in each negative index c, which confirm the left-handed characteristic of these two structures.","PeriodicalId":345360,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Workshop on Metamaterials","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114032386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
