Our aim was to identify barriers and facilitators to implementation and to formulate conditions for nationwide implementation of vision screening in Romania. METHODS: In cities, children were screened by resident kindergarten nurses. In rural areas, kindergartens are small and have no nurses. Children were screened by family doctors’ nurses instead, initially at the doctors’ offi ces and later also at kindergartens. Because rural coverage was low in the fi rst year, a travelling screening nurse was employed to screen children in remote rural areas. Implementation was assessed with on-site observations, interviews, questionnaires and analysis of screening results, including ophthalmological examinations. RESULTS: In cities, 74.8% of eligible children were screened, in rural areas, 47.1%. The travelling screening nurse screened 805 children in seven months and rural communes where screening had taken place increased from 24 to 72 out of 75 during the second year. Referral rate was 15.8% initially, decreasing to 7.9%, varying between 0% and 57.1% among screeners. Of referred children, 27.8% were reported back by ophthalmologists, 15.3% were examined but not reported back, 21.4% were not examined and of 35.4% it was unclear whether they were examined. Referral and treatment were hampered by travel distance and lack of awareness. Of children reported back by ophthalmologists, 34.1% were prescribed glasses, 7.2% both glasses and occlusion and 0.7% occlusion. Vision screening was considered acceptable by respondents. However, in rural communes screening was deemed less appropriate and feasible. Fidelity was high in both urban and rural areas. * Corresponding author: Huibert Jan Simonsz, e-mail: simonsz@compuserve.com, Erasmus University Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology, Rotterdam, the Netherlands Article received: 01.11.2021, accepted: 16.11.2021, published: 15.12.2021 Cite: Kik J, Nordmann M, Rajka D, Mara M, Cainap S, Teodosescu O, Vladescu A Mocan A, Horwood A, Fronius M, Vladutiu C, Simonsz HJ. Health education is the interdisciplinary branch of pedagogy, medico-biological sciences and health sciences, which addresses issues of prevention and the adoption of practices and strategies to reduce morbidity and mortality in the general population. Positive aspects οf ΙΤ&C in health education are: a) ΙΤ&C allows the health educator to present content that it would not otherwise be available in a traditional classroom b) the health educator via ΙΤ&C can make the lesson exciting by invoking the creativity of his/her students c) ΙΤ&C in health education creates the right conditions for cooperation, communication, feedback, knowledge dissemination,and exchange of experiences. Negative aspects οf ΙΤ&C in health education are: a) many sources of information can be incomplete, unreliable, and misleading b) the dependence on computers can reduce the self confi dence and social capability of the students. In this paper we attempt to summarize all the available-to-date information on these issues.","PeriodicalId":34532,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Medicina Scolara si Universitara","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70584024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, there is a growing number of research addressing the adverse outcomes that inappropriate or unrealistic body image may have in the recovery process of chronic patients. Part of society takes the view that cancer is a death warrant in itself. These factors represent an immense source of stress for them that they must take on day by day. However, while going through this process, they need to have resources ready to tap into their inner resources. The research at hand presents the effectiveness of the promotion and application of the Williams LifeSkills Programme concerning coping mechanisms (Stauder, 2016), which contributes to the stress management of people suffering from the effects of cancer, to making their coping more effective and developing their social skills. In the program, participants were allowed to learn strategies and master techniques whose application serves as a more effi cient way to address their current needs. The Williams LifeSkills Programme has never been used before with oncology patients in Romania, only in the territory of Hungary (Rohánszky, 2021). In terms of body image assessment, this skills development program was used to consider a new perspective, wherein essential connections were revealed concerning coping methods. To positively infl uence participants’ self-acceptance and body image, particular emphasis was placed on inserting music and dance choreographies into the activities, which, besides creating a community experience, served to relieve inner tension and channel the stress. A group of 11 cancer survivor patients took part in the life skills development intervention. The mental health intervention led to improvements in shifting the group’s coping mechanisms at the cognitive level. Based on results obtained at the end of the intervention period, group members favored cognitive restructuring over the initially adopted stress-reduction method. Professionally speaking, we consider it essential that this skills development program be applied in cancer support groups since people struggling with the effects of the disease require cognitive assistance in their problem solving and stress management, just as healthy individuals are.","PeriodicalId":34532,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Medicina Scolara si Universitara","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70584560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective and comparable information regarding drugs, addictions and their consequences is offered and independent scientifi c analyses can be run to support the decisions made at European and national levels. In order to do so, EMCDDA relies on a network of national centres. The data are then transcribed in the European Report on drugs, and other documents. The data on the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs by youths are also collected within the ESPAD project or other studies. Among the many existing data, the article selects a few regarding the prevalence of the use of drugs in Europe and in Romania (the prevalence of lifelong use, use in the past year and in the past month). A few recent data are presented on the use of cannabis (the most commonly-used drug in Europe, with an increasingly high level of THC), on the use of new psycho-active substances, tobacco and alcohol, and other potentially addictive activities. We also present data on the admissions to treatment and emergencies associated with use, during 20172019. Finally, we mention a few tendencies and correlations resulted from the studies: the early onset of the smoker, friends who use, the perception that most friends use, certain parental styles and a low social economic statute – these are all signifi cant predictors for the use of tobacco, alcohol or other drugs.","PeriodicalId":34532,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Medicina Scolara si Universitara","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70584764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
