Although progress has been made in early diagnosis of stroke, speci fi c guidelines for the management and secondary prevention of ischaemic stroke in the young are lacking. Ischaemic stroke in young adults has a considerable socio-economic impact and is responsible for an important decrease in the labor force. While subarachnoid and intracerebral hemorrhage are more frequent in the young population, hemorrhagic stroke still remains less common than ischaemic stroke. The etiology of ischaemic stroke can be represented by non-atherosclerotic vasculopathy (arterial dissection, inherited or acquired thrombophilia) or cardioembolism in the context of patent foramen ovale and atrial septal aneurysm. In this age group, speci fi c investigations for less common causes of stroke are needed (genetic diseases, autoimmune diseases, vasculitis).","PeriodicalId":34532,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Medicina Scolara si Universitara","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134884287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Equipping health care practitioners with addiction treatment competences and techniques (CARE4SUD) is a project which is funded by the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union (KA 220 VET – Cooperation partnerships in vocational education and training). The project’s overall objective is to ensure a higher professionalism of the healthcare work force in the illicit drug addiction fi eld at national and European level. Objectives: Exploring needs and gaps through interviews with patients. Matherial and methods: The interviews for Romania with patients were held by DASM as follows: 5 interviews with patients, lasting for about 20 minutes each, conducted by two physicians, part of the project team. All interviews were conducted with the participants’ approval for audio recording and prior completion of their informed consent form, as required in the project methodology. The structure of the interviews complied with the methodology provided by UPorto (Portugal), the coordinator of Activity 2.3. Results and Discutions: Considering the 5 interviews which were held it appears that the participants believe that in Romania there are not enough centres addressed to addicts and that the professionals are not properly trained in treating addiction and in the management of addictions. Drug users initially prefer to turn to psychologists for treatment, rarely to doctors. The participants in the interviews emphasized the essential role of support groups and of the help of other addicts in abstinence/recovery. Studies show that preschoolers’ dental and oral health depends on the attitudes and behavior of their parents towards dental and oral health. This systematic review aims to identify and analyze the framework through the Health Belief Model (HBM) approach and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) for behavioral changes to maintain oral health in pre-school children. METHOD: This systematic review was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement. The literature search was carried out on the ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, Proquest, Pubmed, and Wiley Online Library databases, with a publication period between 2010 and 2021. RESULTS: All studies (n = 10) were conducted on preschooler oral-health and focused on parents’ involvement. Five studies used theory of planned behavior framework, and fi ve studies remaining used the health belief model. All studies confi rmed a prominent means in preschoolers oral-health rely on the knowledge, attitude, practice, and beliefs of parents. CONCLUSIONS: Both the Health Belief Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior can help improve behavior change in pre-school children in maintaining oral health.","PeriodicalId":34532,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Medicina Scolara si Universitara","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70584379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intense promotion of vaping devices, their use as a surrogate for classical cigarettes by those who wish to give up the bad habit, and teenagers’ natural curiosity have turned electronic cigarettes into a new public health problem. The aim of this article is to present the vaping devices in an objective way, focusing on containing substances and their impact on health. We believe that the epidemic caused by this new trend can be stopped or at least slowed down by getting the correct information from sources of expertise, and by the joint efforts of parents, teachers, doctors and youths in Romania. Paediatricians, school doctors and psychologists need to sound the alarm and take preventive action in order to raise the awareness on the risks, and in order to limit the spread of vaping in our country.","PeriodicalId":34532,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Medicina Scolara si Universitara","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70584462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A model-developed vision screening program has been tested in the county of Cluj in Romania. The ultimate goal would be to implement a nationwide vision screening program designed to detect visual defi ciencies in children. METHODS: 98 nurses trained by UMF Cluj examined children aged 4 and 5 in public and private kindergartens and in rural family doctors’ offi ces in 2018 and 2019: 6951 children were examined in Cluj-Napoca, 2677 children in the other 5 municipalities in the county and 3241 children were tested in the rural areas. RESULTS: In the city of Cluj-Napoca 49 nurses from public kindergartens and 4 nurses and 1 doctor from the private kindergartens were enrolled in the project. They examined 6951 children (74% of the eligible). In the fi ve smaller cities 23 nurses examined 2677 children (76% of the eligible).In the rural areas 3241 children (47% of the eligible) were examined by 33 screeners: 2 travelling nurses, 2 family doctors, 29 family doctors nurses. 12080 children were fi rst examined using the E charts while 789 children were examined using the Lea charts. On the second examination 125 children were examined using the E charts and 210 using the Lea charts, and on the third examination 24 children were examined using only Lea charts. From the 12869 examined children 11328 children had a normal visual acuity for their age, while 1507 children were referred for an ophthalmologic examination: 946 children from Cluj-Napoca (13.60%), 253 children (9,45%) from the other fi ve cities in the country and 308 children (9.5%) from rural areas. Only 419 results were collected from the ophthalmologists: 280 (30%) reports of children from Cluj-Napoca, 88 (35%) forms from children in the small cities, and only 51 (17%) reports of children from the rural areas. In 212 out of the total 419 children examined by ophthalmologists (representing 50.59%) a visual acuity disorder was documented. 201 children (47.97%) had a visual acuity within the normal range for the age. The leading causes supposedly responsible for the reduction in visual acuity were: refractive errors (194), strabismus (19), functional amblyopia (38) and organic causes (3). Strabismus was detected in a number of 19 children (4,53%). Optical correction was prescribed in 171 cases, while 37 patients were also recommended occlusion therapy. According to the ophthalmological reports, 234 children required a follow-up at a variable interval (ranging between 2 months and 1year) CONCLUSIONS: The high number of confi rmed cases of visual acuity disorders, the important number of glasses prescriptions and the detection of cases that require occlusion treatment emphasizes the value of visual screening.
