Unfortunately, with this classical approach, the student does not have enough opportunity to be independent, creative and innovative. This paper describes a new laboratory teaching method called project based approach (PBA). This approach permits the students to analyze, synthesize, and innovate with new ideas and solutions. It will also increase students' interest in the considered disciplines. The PAB is implemented at Ecole de technologie superieure with successful results, and is appreciated and supported by the students. This article presents the description, challenges, implementation, evaluation and validation of the electronic circuits' laboratory projects using a project based approach. It emphasizes also on techniques and solutions to implement the e-learning method to analog electronic circuits' course. This approach can also be adapted to other undergraduate courses","PeriodicalId":345289,"journal":{"name":"2006 1ST IEEE International Conference on E-Learning in Industrial Electronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115394250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we present a genetic algorithm to solve the single machine total weighted tardiness problem, a scheduling problem which is known to be NP-hard. First, we present a new concept of genetic operators for scheduling problems. Then, we present a developed software tool, called HybFlexGA, to examine the performance of various crossover and mutation operators by computing simulations of scheduling problems. Finally, the best genetic operators obtained from our computational tests are applied in the HybFlexGA. The computational results obtained with 40, 50 and 100 jobs show the good performance and the efficiency of the developed HybFlexGA","PeriodicalId":345289,"journal":{"name":"2006 1ST IEEE International Conference on E-Learning in Industrial Electronics","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124572761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People choose open and distance learning in order to be able to learn at their own pace, where they want, when they want. Thus it helps in combining the requirements and constraints of work, personal life, family life and studies. It is in these advantages rather than in the mere fact of being able to learn remotely that the real benefits lie. Open and distance learning can offer the personalised learning plans that individual students seek, and it can do this throughout the regions, benefiting from economies of scale in the design of courses and in the production of materials, and also in administrative management. Open and distance learning is able to offer life-long learning activities not only to the professional world but also in the fields of general and popular education. Keeping in mind these guidelines, it will be possible to formulate a policy that will further the setting up of a rich and powerful system. The example of the UPJV's (Universite de Picardie Jules Verne) involvement in open and distance learning will be used to argue and illustrate our case, showing an approach to the visualisation of education aimed at clearing the fog of 'obscurantism': the new relationship to time and distance, and the interplay with the new technologies","PeriodicalId":345289,"journal":{"name":"2006 1ST IEEE International Conference on E-Learning in Industrial Electronics","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134212772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The received signal is processed and the membership function to three regions, namely; \"signal present\", \"signal absent\" and \"uncertainty\" is evaluated. The nonlinear gain of this particular Wiener model is approximated using the piecewise linear functions. This approach retains all the interested properties of the classical linear model predictive control (MPC) and keeps computations easy to solve due to the canonical structure of the nonlinear gain. The presented control scheme is applied to a pH neutralization process and simulation results are compared to linear model predictive control. It is well-known that images segmentation is one of the most difficult low-level image analysis tasks. Many disturbing factors, or image vagueness may corrupt this task. It is targeted towards users of automated irrigation systems, in order to improve the irrigation water management and frost protection of crops. To achieve this goal, we developed a procedure integrating the agrohydrological aspect of irrigation with the microprocessing aspects. The system uses soil water potential measurements to control the amount of water to apply to the field. The firmware enables the system to continuously measure in situ via the input interface, soil moisture content and climatic parameters. Also, it performs math and other user-defined functions and outputs commands to drive appropriate actuators (solenoid valves, pump motors). A Delphi-based friendly graphical user interface (GUI) was developed to interact with the controller and display the overall irrigation system status.
