Traditional translation methods have proven inadequate in meeting global translation needs. While translation tools are brilliant in addressing diverse disciplines and text genres, their usability and reliability face considerable debate, especially when applied to literary texts. Therefore, this research seeks to explore the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) translation tools (e.g., ChatGPT) on the translation and back translation of literary texts. The study employed an experimental model within a qualitative approach, utilizing a translation test as the primary research tool. 80 English-major students at Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) were randomly selected and assigned into four groups: two control and two experimental groups. Students are asked to translate and back translate an English short story and qualitative data from the test has undergone analysis through various comparisons. For statistical analysis, an independent samples t-test was employed to compare two independent groups. The findings revealed that students using AI tools were able to produce better translations and back translations than students using traditional methods, with slightly better performance in back translation.","PeriodicalId":34495,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Studies","volume":"93 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141664244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A descriptive analytical approach was used, with a questionnaire as the data collection tool. The research population consisted of all employees at the CAC Bank (General Administration - in the capital Sana'a), totaling 610 employees at various administrative levels. A random sample of 270 individuals was selected. The research found a significant positive role for administrative control tools: supervision and observation, administrative reports, records, and statistics in improving job performance at CAC Bank. However, administrative inspection and the estimated budget showed no role in job performance. Job performance was rated high and is linked to the implementation of administrative control tools in general, but it is most influenced by administrative reports, followed by records and statistics, and then supervision and observation. The research recommends continuous enhancement and development of administrative control tools by the bank, developing control tools, involving employees in decision-making, improving relationships between employees, developing communication skills, and fostering teamwork.","PeriodicalId":34495,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Studies","volume":"65 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study utilizes a mixed method approach incorporating both quantitative analyses to assess the presence and nature of content, in these educational materials. The key findings reveal a lack of national symbols and stories in these textbooks, which could have a significant impact on students perception of their national identity and cultural heritage. Emphasizing the importance of including elements in language education to in still pride and strengthen ties to one’s background the study also explores the implications of this cultural gap within linguistic teaching methods. It stresses the necessity for an educational content that respects and represents both global and local cultures equally. This balance is crucial for cultivating a worldview among students while upholding their sense of identity. Providing suggestions for curriculum developers and educators the study advocates for an approach that reflects cultural perspectives in language education materials. By addressing this disparity in content it aims to enhance learning experiences and reinforce students connection, to their national identity alongside promoting global awareness.","PeriodicalId":34495,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Studies","volume":"56 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After identifying these texts that contain grammatical problems, the research explained the grammatical issue and then compared the problematic wording in the hadith to the wording of other hadiths that share the same meaning and the same chain of narration. The research concluded that this evidence is not the words of the Prophet Muhammad or his companions, as the narrators of the hadiths were more concerned with the meaning than the wording. However, the research supported Ibn Malik's approach of relying on these hadiths that deviate from the well-known grammatical rule, based on the views of contemporary linguists on the philosophy of language and its flexible nature. This is what Ibn Malik was pointing to when he went beyond normative grammar to descriptive grammar. The research also discussed some of the ideas of contemporary scholars on the subject of fundamentals of audio grammar and the use of the present tense verb rules. It recommended reconsidering its traditional rules, especially for verbs that include a vowel letter and verbs that are followed by the “Noon” letter, known as the five examples.","PeriodicalId":34495,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Studies","volume":"57 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study follows the descriptive, analytical comparative method. The researcher applies a detailed descriptive content-based analysis of the ST stylistic devices at three levels: syntax, lexicology and graphology. The criteria of the study analysis are on two validated checklists of the ST stylistic devices and their translations alongside the procedures adopted by the translators. The study focuses on the applied procedures that identify the translators’ tendencies in using domestication or foreignization. Transliteration and literal translation are regarded as foreignization procedures whereas cultural substitution, adaptation, equivalence, paraphrase, modulation, transposition, omission and addition constitute domestication ones. To determine to what extent these two methods are utilized, frequencies and percentages are quantitatively provided. In light of the study's theoretical framework, data are gathered, categorized, and scrutinized. The results show that both domestication and foreignization are manifested in the two translations with different proportions. Farea’s translation favours domestication due to the great use of domesticating procedures particularly adaptation. Yet, Nassar’s translation prefers foreignization due to the higher usage of literal translation and transliteration.","PeriodicalId":34495,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Studies","volume":"43 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141663868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
