The Smart Grid infrastructure is emerging as a complex system where fine-grained monitoring and control of energy generating and/or consuming entities within the electricity network is possible. This will result to better approaches that will boost energy efficiency. To make real this vision, (open) platforms providing access to the smart meter data as well as potential management and value-added functionalities are needed. These will offer basic energy services that can be commonly used by application developers. In this context, this paper proposes a new market platform in order to coordinate the energy exchanges among several micro Smart Grids aggregated in a Virtual Energy District. Some numerical results in Matlab/Simulink environment are presented to validate the proposed platform.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121416197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The generator structure is based on the cascaded H-bridge multilevel topology, including 24 H-bridge basic modules with the capability of 49 output voltage levels. The individual H-bridge dc supply (600V) is provided by a flyback converter fed by a low-voltage (12V) dc battery. In this way, the input isolation of the ±15kV maximum output voltage is realized in a simple and effective manner, and a portable device is obtained. The generator has been tested by supplying a DBD plasma actuator with different voltage waveforms, up to 20 kHz, pointing out a wide and interesting set of results in terms of output plasma currents.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"196 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116354877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic control structure is the open-loop V/f control with voltage-drop compensation and slip compensation. Additionally, a new current damper control is utilized for suppressing the dynamic oscillation. The improvement of the current control is based on complete modal synthesis. In order to analyze the dynamic characteristic, the complex control system is built in a mathematical model and the eigenvalue loci theory is applied. The result of the analysis is proved by experiments.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126496574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is achieved through simulations and modeling. Voltage control methodologies have been proposed to deal with the problem of increased voltage at PCC and the nearby bus bars. The harmonic impact of PV power integration at the PCC is analyzed and a three phase harmonic filer is designed to mitigate the total harmonic distortions. The investigated system performance is improved using a solar tracker control technique and using a DC-DC converter.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"72 s309","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132227883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A bi-objective design optimization is presented for synchronous machines with V-shaped buried magnets. The machine length and the loss energy over a given driving cycle are defined as objectives. A total of 14 parameters defining geometry and winding layout are chosen as design parameters. Additionally some constraints like speed-torque-requirements and minimal stray field bridge widths are set. The optimization problem is solved using 2D finite element analysis and a high-performance differential evolution algorithm. The analyses are performed for the ARTEMIS driving cycle due to the more realistic driving behavior in comparison to the most commonly used New European Driving Cycle. Furthermore, a reference design optimization against the rated point loss energy is presented. The results show a much better performance of the driving cycle optimized machines in comparison to the rated point optimized machines in terms of the cycle-based loss energy. Loss savings depend strongly on the machine length and are approximately in between 15% and 45%.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117287243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
