To successfully operate this system when performing fault ride-through evaluations, a control algorithm has been developed to prevent saturation of the interface transformer's magnetic core. Prior to full implementation of this grid system, the high power components of the system are being evaluated using a real-time digital simulation (RTDS®) environment in order to identify any potential control or interface issues. In this paper, the various modeled components are discussed, the implementation of the feed-forward control algorithm to prevent interface transformer saturation is presented, and finally, the results of a test scenario are shown with and without the saturation control algorithm in place.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130799775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main disadvantage for the use of such vehicles for long distance is the low capacity of the battery. A quick charging time realized by a high power level of 50 kW (compared with a standard charging station) enables a use with higher drive range per day and for long distances. Therefore the development of a concept for a wide integration of high power charging stations in the electrical grid also in areas with weak power grid infrastructure is an essential pre-condition for a wide utilization of electric vehicles. This paper deals with a control method for the integration of quick charging stations in areas with weak power grid infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121897417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Very high efficiency, dynamic performance and reliability are among the main requirements to be met at competitive costs by electric machine suppliers. This paper reports on an industrial R&D project aimed at finding the best compromise between performance targets and production cost reduction through the realization of a 640-kW 10.000-rpm PM motor prototype. The preliminary and optimization design of the motor have been covered in a companion paper (Part I). Here the manufacturing and testing of the prototype are covered. The main technology challenges encountered throughout the manufacturing process are addressed. Furthermore, the paper reports on the testing campaign conducted on the motor under converter supply and in different load and speed conditions. The prototype testing was successful and proved the possibility to reach and exceed a 98% motor efficiency target with affordable costs and available technologies.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116900450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High frequency switching common-mode voltages produced by power electronic converters across a machine can cause bearing currents, leading to premature bearing failure. The proposed PWM method for the PET with dual matrix converters aims at eliminating common-mode voltages across the open-end winding load. Also, the proposed PWM method facilitates zero current switching (ZCS) of PET primary side switches, thus eliminating snubber requirements for these switches. In addition, using dual matrix converters instead of a single matrix converter (proposed in a previous paper) results in increased maximum output voltage to input voltage ratio.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116984128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The motor rotates around two kinds of rotation axes and totally six rotation axes. The previous studies presented its structure, working principle of rotation by five-phase alternative currents (ACs), and experimental evaluation results of rotation torque and cogging torque around rotation axes. A numerical simulation is a strong tool to estimate dynamic rotation behavior of the motor and to investigate optimum values of design parameters. This study constructs a simulation model of the 14-12 spherical motor and conducts several simulations of rotation behavior by a software package to simulate magnetic field coupling with motion.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124846525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then, to describe a detailed PhotoVoltaic (PV) conversion model, from the solar irradiance to the AC power profile delivered to the utility grid, and to compare the simulation results with the 15-min mean power measured by the energy-meter of a real grid-connected PV system with megawatt size. The results show that an adequate accuracy can be obtained and that useful information can be provided for fault diagnosis of a portion of a PV array.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124854574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The unique structure of the motor and the use of new dielectric materials with high electric permittivity significantly increase its generated force. The generated force is further increased by using several layers of capacitors. The proposed motor has advanced motion control options that allow precise control of velocity and position profiles. Moreover, the motor is insensitive to electro-magnetic fields and has reduced power losses due to the fact that there are no cupper and hysteresis losses. Extensive simulation results of the proposed motor at different operation modes are presented and analyzed. The simulation results demonstrate proposed control methods and show the practicability of the motor.","PeriodicalId":344918,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125192079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
