Out of the total camels (N=813) examined for ectoparasite infestation, about 629 of camels were infested with one or more species of parasites and the overall prevalence was 77.4%. About 17.44%, 10.57%, 1.97%, and 0.24% were accounted for single and mixed infestation with two, three and four parasites respectively. The study indicated that there were statistically significant variation (P 0.05) in infestation rate in relation to areas. In this study four of genera ticks and one genera of mite were identified. The identified genera were Hyalomma (28.30%), Amblyomma (24.48%), Rhipicephalus (17.17%) and Boophilus (0.32%). The infestation of a single mite showed that; Sarcoptes scabiei var cameli (8.90%). Infestations in seven districts in the region ranged (70.06%) of Yallo 82.6% in Elidar district to but higher prevalence was found (80.5%) at Megale and (82.6%) Elidar district. In conclusion, the prevalence of ectoparasites in the present study was high in camel population in the study areas of the Afar region; therefore it is important to reduce parasitic infestation and its load through applying ectoparasitic drugs and externally applied chemicals.","PeriodicalId":342483,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Preventive Medicine","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122502174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Medical Waste handlers faced massive exposure to hazardous wastes and occupational accidents as a result of manual handling of waste and working under unfavorable conditions. This indicates that waste handlers are often at high risk of occupational injuries. In Ethiopia there are limited studies and updated information concerning this issues. To fill the gap this study was intended to assess safety practices and associated factors among selected public hospital waste handler in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2019. An institutional based cross- sectional study design was used to conduct the study. All waste handlers of selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa were included in the study. The data was collected via interview using structured questionnaire. Bivariate and multi variable logistic regressions were employed to identify the predictor variables. Statistical significance was considered at P <0.05 with adjusted odds ratio calculated at 95%CI. The prevalence of current safety practice among public hospital waste handlers was found to be 44.1% (95%CI; 37.3-51.0). Respondents with good knowledge (AOR=4.7; 95%CI: 1.9, 11.5), having good supplies (AOR=6.78; 95%CI: 2.2, 20.7) had higher odds of adherence to safety practices compared to their counterparts. The study shows that the prevalence of safety practice is low. Knowledge of waste handles on safety measures and availability & accessibility of safety materials is the determinant factors for safety practice while handling waste. To sustain good safety practice adequate per-service and in-service training should be in place to increase their knowledge and practice about safety precautions and similarly providing enough safety materials is recommended to strength adherence to safety practice among hospital waste handlers.","PeriodicalId":342483,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Preventive Medicine","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114067809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the surveillance data of rabies in Jingxi City from 2000 to 2020. Results A total of 73 rabies cases and 73 cases of rabies were reported in Jingxi City from 2000 to 2020, with an average annual incidence rate of 0.55/100,000, and a case fatality rate of 100%; cases were reported in 19 towns and townships; it occurred frequently in Summer and autumn, with 56.16% of cases from May to September. Mainly farmers, the incidence accounted for 84.93%; male incidence rate was 0.70/100,000, female incidence rate was 0.38/100,000, male and female incidence ratio was 2.04:1; the main wonding animals were dogs, accounting for 95.89%; humans No history of vaccination after exposure accounted for 97%. Conclusion The rural area Jingxi City is a key area for rabies Prevention and control. It is necessary to strengthen the propaganda of rabies prevention knowledge, standardize post-exposure treatment, and carry out large-scale dog immunization. Comprehensive prevention measures such as immunization and hunting to effectively curb the epidemic of rabies. Background: Jingxi, Guangxi is located on the border of China and Vietnam. The border with Vietnam to the south is 152.5km long. It has a subtropical monsoon climate. It has 19 villages and towns under its jurisdiction and has a total population of 670,000. Among them, ethnic minority imports account for 99.40%. The port was expanded to an international port with the approval of the state council, and the Yuexu port was also upgraded to a national first-level port. Border trade increased. Residents in rural areas have the habit of raising domestic dogs and eating dog meat. There are a large number of dogs, dog registration management, and immunization. The implementation of hunting and killing measures is not in place, the standardized disposal rate after exposure is low, and rabies epidemics occur from time to time.","PeriodicalId":342483,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Preventive Medicine","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122423302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The attainment are dependent on continual access, quality care and treatment retention, so efforts must address context specific barriers to accessing services. The ethnoreligious conflicts in Jos created barriers to accessing HIV/PMTCT services, even when treatment sites existed around the metropolis. Fifteen communities lacked comprehensive HIV services and residents could not access treatment facilities because of security challenges. A specialized strategy using community oriented resource persons (CORPs) and task shifting task sharing (TSTS) principles conceptualized by stakeholders was utilized to bridge personnel gaps and scale-up PMTCT. The HIV Lead Implementing Partner supported a faith based community organization to identify and scale-up PMTCT into 28 hospitals in 15 communities. Training and task devolution to Community Health workers (CHWs), expert patients and Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) was utilized. The facilities were networked for service delivery, referrals, supervision and commodity logistics. HIV testing was provided to pregnant women during ANC, labour and postnatal, and their children and spouses. All 28 facilities offered HCT and provided ARVs to those testing positive in labour, women testing positive during ANC were managed/referred to 8 PMTCT sites for evaluation and ARV commencement according to Nigerian HIV Guidelines. Infants received Nevirapine, early infant diagnosis and Cotrimoxazole. HIV positive children and non-pregnant adults were referred to three ART sites for evaluation and treatment. The twenty-eight facilities were activated for HCT/PMTCT/ART using MNCH structures and CHEWs, TBAs and PLHIV expert patients provided care, support and tracking. After the six-month pilot, of 3,293 women receiving ANC, 3,094 (93.9%) accepted HCT and received same-day results. Thirty-four tested positive, but 15 previously knew their status and on ARVs, but had challenges accessing care, while 17 of 19 newly diagnosed women commenced ARVs while 2 defaulters are being tracked. Five HIV exposed babies delivered received Nevirapine and cotrimoxazole, four were tested HIV-negative. Also 7193 adults and 23 children received HCT and results, 69 positive adults and 2 positive children enrolled care, among who 33 adults and 2 children commenced ARVs. PMTCT diagnostics must identify specific barriers communities experience and implement multipronged context specific scale-up efforts to improve access/uptake to eliminate Paediatric HIV infections. CORPs and TSTS strategies are critical to improve service-delivery and retention in care.","PeriodicalId":342483,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Preventive Medicine","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123806113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has profoundly affected health systems by relocating resources, enforcing restrictive measures and burdening health care workers. The study aims to assess the changes in the treatment and the evolution of cancer patients in a county in Romania, with a population of over a half million inhabitants. Patients and method. Patients with breast, gastric, colorectal, and lung cancer were studied over a two-year period: 14 months before the onset of the pandemic and 10 months after its beginning. The number of new cases of cancer, the number of chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions, the number of surgeries and deaths from these four types of cancer were recorded. Results. During the pandemic, fewer chemotherapy sessions were administered for all cancers (p<0.0001). The number of radiotherapy sessions for breast (p<0.007) and colorectal cancer (p<0.002) increased by banning patients from going to university hospitals and decreased for lung cancer (p<0.03) which has symptoms similar to those of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Conclusions. Cancer patients had limited access to chemotherapy. Their diagnosis and treatment were included in the same category as non-life-threatening diseases. Testing, quarantine and travel limitation were not accompanied by additional safe medical services for the oncological patients. The death rate is inconclusive because the time since the onset of the pandemic is shorter than the natural evolution of the types of cancers studied.","PeriodicalId":342483,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Preventive Medicine","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121481062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to these relationships between constipation and lifestyle, this study focused on the relationship between constipation and mental stress. Although there are few studies on how mental stress can cause constipation, it can be said that stress has some effect on the state of defecation. The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between the state of defecation, lifestyle, and stress among female college students. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 294 female college students used as subjects. Regarding lifestyle, it was revealed that the constipation group tended to lack sleep in comparison to the good condition group, and many in the constipation group tended to skip breakfast in comparison to the good condition group. It was also found that the constipation group tended to drink alcohol more frequently than the good condition group. There was no difference in the exercise category between the two groups. Regarding the relationship between the state of defecation and stress, it was found that the constipation group had a higher relationship than the good condition group in terms of both interpersonal relationships and achievement items when it came to negative life events. Furthermore, regarding positive life events, both interpersonal and achievement items were higher in the good condition group. It is considered that interpersonal relationships likely affect the state of defecation among female college students.","PeriodicalId":342483,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Preventive Medicine","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134389376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
