In Italy, some students receive both written and oral grades in mathematics at the end of the first semester, which are then averaged for a final grade. The possibility of applying fuzzy logic, which has been widely used to deal with uncertain or verbal descriptions, to this process has not yet been explored extensively. In the present contribution, we consider a sample of N = 47 Italian high school students, and analyze two fuzzy combinations of their mathematics grades. Students’ hypothetical grades produced with the center-of-gravity defuzzification method are lower than students’ grades in their report cards, while the mean-of-maxima defuzzification method produced grades that are statistically higher than the students’ original grades. Implications are discussed, leading to suggestions for assessment research.","PeriodicalId":342407,"journal":{"name":"Nauka i obrazovanje – izazovi i perspektive","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129464326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Žefran","doi":"10.46793/noip.143b","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.46793/noip.143b","url":null,"abstract":"Several studies in the area of education have recently applied metaphor analysis as an analytical tool for investigating the perceptions and attitudes of various stakeholders, such as learners, practicing and pre-service teachers, language teachers, etc. about different aspects of teaching and learning (Nikitina and Furuoka, 2008; Oxford et al., 1998; Chen, 2003). The primary aim of the study presented in this paper is to identify the ways pre-service teachers perceive the teacher‟s role through metaphors. The theoretical framework first looks at metaphor from a cognitive perspective (Lakoff, 1993). We then turn to the conceptualisation of teachers through metaphors, with particular reference to the typology of teacher metaphors developed by Oxford et al. (1998), Oxford (2001), and Chenʼs (2003) classification system for metaphors about teaching. The second part presents the results of qualitative research which was carried out based on the analysis of studentsʼ personal documentary material in the form of argumentative essays. The results of the content analysis are presented in different categories and include a selection of direct quotations by the participants. The results indicate that future primary school teachers perceive the teacher‟s role through a variety of metaphors, such as teachers as friends, parents or role models. We would like to argue that their perceptions expressed through metaphors reflect different educational paradigms.","PeriodicalId":342407,"journal":{"name":"Nauka i obrazovanje – izazovi i perspektive","volume":"154 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131965022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If preschool teachers are competent for planning and creating stimulating, acceptable and inclusive activities, the effect is evident not only in the child’s overall development, but also in the quality of their own work and the preschool institution in general. The questionnaire on creating an inclusive environment was distributed to 204 preschool teachers working in early childhood education institutions in Croatia. The aim was to examine the extent to which preschool teachers plan and create an inclusive environment in early childhood institutions with emphasis on offering educational support and development of social skills and habits in children. The statements were interpreted and elaborated through a qualitative analysis of frequencies. The results show preschool teachers’ high awareness of creating an inclusive environment, though there is still lack of methods for adapting work with children with special educational needs. Reforms should certainly give priority to issues of quality and continuous professional development of preschool teachers.","PeriodicalId":342407,"journal":{"name":"Nauka i obrazovanje – izazovi i perspektive","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128570013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the paper draws attention to a cause-and-effect relationship between certain logical errors (e.g. denying the antecedent and affirming the consequent) which students are most commonly not aware of as well as to the difficulties in understanding and solving problems from other branches of mathematics. The research presented in this paper was conducted during a period of a few years. We were interested in finding out whether drawing students’ attention to this segment of mathematical logic can lead to the improvement of their logical deduction. The results of our empirical research confirmed that introducing students to logical forms of deduction has a positive transfer on other branches of mathematics. We also argue that the results of the present research may help mathematics teachers understand the significance of mathematical logic for mathematics instruction.","PeriodicalId":342407,"journal":{"name":"Nauka i obrazovanje – izazovi i perspektive","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124304749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the research was to determine whether there is a significant correlation between studentsʼreception of school and their competences for lifelong learning. Accordingly, there is necessityfor constant innovations of education and moral education in contemporary school for the purpose of promoting the development of such competences in school students. It has been determined that most senior grade elementary school students do not show a high level of perception of their respective schools. They are generally at average level of accepting the key components of school life and work. Their most prominent competences include information (digital) literacy and communication in mother tongue. These are followed by a limited ability to communicate in English and interpersonal and civic competences. The lowest scores have been recorded for mathematical literacy and learning to learn competence. The students’ receptions of school are closely related to their competences for lifelong learning. The paper explains the pedagogical implications of the research findings.","PeriodicalId":342407,"journal":{"name":"Nauka i obrazovanje – izazovi i perspektive","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126381922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The significance and values of Pelagićʼs pedagogical ideas for contemporary upbringing and education are reflected primarily in his pointing out and drawing attention to the importance of educating children and youth, to the entire education system, as well as to improving the material and technical conditions of school and teaching (equipping school facilities and arranging school environment), including the fact that he considered these issues to be primary social problems. Important and valuable for contemporary didactics are Pelagić's ideas about the suitability of teaching content for the age, mental and other characteristics of students, thorough preparation of teachers for lessons, commitment to freedom, democracy, and solidarity through teaching, and pointing out the weaknesses of the application of teaching methods that have not been eliminated yet. Some of Pelagićʼs ideas about the application of principles in teaching have been incorporated into contemporary teaching characterized by a democratic and humanistic spirit.","PeriodicalId":342407,"journal":{"name":"Nauka i obrazovanje – izazovi i perspektive","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133754624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bioecological theories of development substantiate that the environment has an impact on the individual, which can be negative or positive. The purpose of the research is to determine whether the environment plays a role in the occurrence of bullying. The survey included 65 students from two Slovenian primary schools who completed the questionnaire School Bullying Scales (Pečjak, 2014) in February 2020. We used descriptive and inferential statistics in the analysis of the data. In the research, the students of primary school A reported that they are involved in bullying more often than the students of primary school B. Statistically significant differences between the students of primary schools A and B occur in the roles of bystander and bully. The students of primary school A are more often in the role of bystanders and bullies than the students of primary school B. Based on the results and understanding of the bioecological theory of development, we conclude that the environment plays an essential role in preventing and reducing bullying in society","PeriodicalId":342407,"journal":{"name":"Nauka i obrazovanje – izazovi i perspektive","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115849341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A historical map is a graphic representation of the geographical area where historical events took place at a certain time. The subject of this research is the analysis of the use of a historical map in the Science and Social Studies textbooks for the fourth grade of primary school. In this paper, we have analyzed whether these textbooks contain historical maps, their number, whether they are titled, whether there are additional explanations or legends, and to what extent a historical map is referred to by the accounts in the text of the textbooks, on the basis of which students should, by independently interpreting, analyzing and reading the map, come to certain conclusions and knowledge. The method used is the content analysis method. The analysis indicates that all five textbooks contain historical maps, although they are not explicitly mentioned as a term in teaching and learning programs. Historical maps should enable students to acquire more permanent knowledge through independent work and map reading as well as develop new concepts with regard to historical content. Studying the use of historical maps in the Science and Social Studies textbooks is important for improving the teaching process.","PeriodicalId":342407,"journal":{"name":"Nauka i obrazovanje – izazovi i perspektive","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126917910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
