Kovačević","doi":"10.46793/noip.063s","DOIUrl":null,"url":null,"abstract":"The paper aimed to explain the significance and values of Pelagićʼs ideas, opinions, attitudes, and views of school reform, teaching, and overall education for the development of contemporary pedagogical and didactic thought. The significance and values of Pelagićʼs pedagogical ideas for contemporary upbringing and education are reflected primarily in his pointing out and drawing attention to the importance of educating children and youth, to the entire education system, as well as to improving the material and technical conditions of school and teaching (equipping school facilities and arranging school environment), including the fact that he considered these issues to be primary social problems. Important and valuable for contemporary didactics are Pelagić's ideas about the suitability of teaching content for the age, mental and other characteristics of students, thorough preparation of teachers for lessons, commitment to freedom, democracy, and solidarity through teaching, and pointing out the weaknesses of the application of teaching methods that have not been eliminated yet.
