Since the speed of LIM can be controlled by voltage and frequency variation, this paper constructed a variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) controller based on digital signal processor (DSP). With suggested algorithm, the reference is modulated to control speed, and its related operating characteristics are analyzed. In addition, to improve the starting propulsion force maintaining stable acceleration characteristics, the boosted voltage/frequency ratio is suggested according to speed variation.","PeriodicalId":341659,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131870501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been solved by using large electrolytic capacitors. However, due to the low life span of electrolytic capacitors, the active power decoupling method is studied to substitute from the conventional type capacitor to film capacitor. This paper proposes new active power decoupling using bi-directional Resonant Converter (APD-BRC) for flyback-type AC-module system. Proposed APD-BRC circuit is composed of bi-directional buck-boost converter using soft-switching and it expected higher system efficiency than conventional decoupling system. Since voltage ripple of PV module output is reduced, electrolytic capacitor can be replaced to film capacitor. The proposed topology is verified by simulation results.","PeriodicalId":341659,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134132835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the increasing requirement of environment protection, renewable energy mainly wind power and solar energy is widely researched and applied into real life to save fuel cost and reduce emission from the electricity industry. This paper presents an optimization of fuel cost and emission for a smart grid which includes wind turbines (WTs) and electric vehicles (EVs). In this problem, we determine which generator should be started and running to satisfy the continually changing load demand at each period and meanwhile to minimize the total operating cost and carbon dioxide emissions of generators. Applying traditional polynomial function in a smart grid, the numerical results show the performance of WTs and EVs. WTs have contribution to reduce emissions from the electricity industry; and EVs can reduce fuel cost for electric utility and make profit for customers by taking advantage of ladder price.","PeriodicalId":341659,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference","volume":"47 49","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134225886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the soft-start operation, it is important to detect the load resistor. In conventional analog method, the fixed large parameter of the soft-start circuit must be set by the condition. In the proposed digital control, the load resistor can be calculated with the output voltage and output current, and the optimal time constant of the soft-start circuit can be decided by detecting load dynamically in voltage mode. Therefore, it doesn't need to set large value for the time constant. In the current mode control, the optimal upper limit can be decided by load resistor. It is confirmed that the digital control methods have superior soft-start characteristics compared to the analog one.","PeriodicalId":341659,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133822880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) system, batteries of electric-drive vehicle are more frequently charged or discharged, which increases probability of cell imbalance. Therefore, battery management system (BMS) with efficient cell balancing operation is necessary. To achieve efficient management of lithium-ion batteries with high capacity for the V2G system, this paper proposes a modularized BMS structure with an active cell balancing circuit. The proposed BMS shares a multifunctional switching block for cell voltage monitoring and cell balancing. By sharing monitoring and balancing operation, a cost-effective BMS with small size can be achieved. In this paper, the structure and operational principles of the proposed BMS are presented. To confirm the validity of the proposed scheme, a prototype of 20 lithium-ion batteries with 25Ah is designed and implemented. Cell balancing performance is also verified by an experiment.","PeriodicalId":341659,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference","volume":"66 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114365864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seven different operational modes with different loading profiles have been introduced for the vessel. The ship uses an LVDC distribution system to share power among sources, and distribute power among different loads. To simulate this hybrid electric power system, a nonlinear programming method is used to identify the optimal power sharing criteria between generators and the energy storage. The control strategy is based on the diesel generators loading level, which is implemented in MATLAB®. A comparison is made by counter posing the simulation results of the ship power system, before and after using the energy storage. The simulation results show improved fuel consumption in the hybrid electric system for all operational modes, particularly for dynamic positioning and harbor modes.","PeriodicalId":341659,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116739802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
