In terms of mechanical defects in transformers, turn to turn and disc to disc short circuits in transformer windings are considered as one of the main problems in transformer active part. On the other hand, Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) is considered as a robust, sensitive and high accurate method to identify transformer mechanical defects. This study has concentrated on self-inductance variation recognition due to an internal short circuit in transformer using FRA signature. A single phase 11/0.25 kV, 25 kVA transformer has been taken as test object. Frequency response of the test object was recorded for open circuit and short circuit situations. Frequency response alteration in low frequencies caused by short circuit is interpreted through mathematical calculations. Frequency response trace deviation is employed to recognize self-inductance changes due to the internal short circuit.","PeriodicalId":341348,"journal":{"name":"2012 10th International Power & Energy Conference (IPEC)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129397161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thevenin equivalent representation of the system is sometimes used for stability assessment of a given generator, where the Thevenin voltage is one of the key variables affecting the stability conditions. Thevenin voltage is formed by components induced by each voltage source in the grid, while depending on topology and system parameters, the impact of these components on the equivalent Thevenin voltage Eth might vary considerably. This paper demonstrates how the impact of individual voltage source to Eth might be defined utilizing system admittance matrix. Knowledge about alternation of Eth, while applying changes to either the admittance matrix or the generators' excitation and torque, gives a promising perspective for determination of effective countermeasures aimed at preventing instability. Suggested approach for Eth decomposition is applied to the IEEE 30 bus test system.","PeriodicalId":341348,"journal":{"name":"2012 10th International Power & Energy Conference (IPEC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131234090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Presented topology is able to synthesis nth-level of output voltage steps with isolated dc voltage source and simple cascaded sub-cell can be easily connected in parallel mode to achieve higher voltage levels. This paper discusses seven-level voltage steps on the output terminal of the inverter. The presented topology provides several merits of low output voltage distortion, low voltage stress and higher voltage levels. The basic structure of seven-level multiple-poles multilevel diode-clamped inverter (7L-M2DCI) topology is to keep the design simple and reduce number of components count as compared with classical seven-level multilevel flying capacitor inverter (7L-MFCI) and seven-level multilevel diode-clamped inverter (7L-MDCI) topologies. Hence, components comparisons of classical MDCI and M2DCI topologies are presented and simple analysis of 7L-M2DCI topology is discussed in this context. To operate effectiveness of 7L-M2DCI topology, a level-shifted pulse width modulation (LS-PWM) technique is presented and simulation results are verified for the operating stages of the proposes 7L-M2DCI converter.","PeriodicalId":341348,"journal":{"name":"2012 10th International Power & Energy Conference (IPEC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128561526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Improving the condition monitoring technologies will be beneficial to promote the performance of OWTs. Motivated by the application advantages of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in environment monitoring, a wireless network based condition health monitoring system for OWTs is proposed, which is composed of different types of wireless sensor nodes. Sensor nodes are deployed on the key components of OWTs based on the fault feature analysis on the different components. The problem is treated through optimal power flows (OPF) using an objective function that minimizes real power losses in transmission lines. A computer program that solves OPF was written in Matlab/Octave using the Newton-Raphson method (NR) and quadratic penalties. The employed algorithm is described, and is similar to one used in an ordinary power flow program (PF), therefore being an educational example on how the basic PF analysis is extended to include optimization. Simulations were run using small case studies found in the literature and the results show good agreement compared to those of a commercial simulator.","PeriodicalId":341348,"journal":{"name":"2012 10th International Power & Energy Conference (IPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129337710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The structural materials subjecting to the strong temperature fluctuations may cause thermal fatigue failure. Since the supercritical fluids are supposed to be used widely in the next generation nuclear power plants, this paper aims at investigating the temperature fluctuation characteristics in a Tee junction using supercritical water as coolant. A three dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical model is developed using commercial software FLUENT. The measures to reduce the temperature fluctuations such as applying porous media and changing the inclined angles are investigated. It is concluded that the porous media can smooth away the fluctuations in the mixing zone region, and the thermal fatigue issue can be improved by changing the inclined angles.","PeriodicalId":341348,"journal":{"name":"2012 10th International Power & Energy Conference (IPEC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130805898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
