OFDM has shown resistance to multipath fading. However, OFDM suffers from high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) which may be particularly troublesome in certain environment such as satellite communications. Single Carrier Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) has become an alternative to OFDM due to its low PAPR. Described as a precoded version of OFDM, its performance is worse than that of OFDM for Rayleigh channels. In this work, the SC-FDMA performance over a simplified model for Land Mobile Satellite (LMS) channels is investigated for different Rice factor K, average delays, and allocated subcarriers. It is shown that, besides its lower PAPR, SC-FDMA outperforms OFDM due to the existence of a Line Of Sight (LOS) able to increase SC-FDMA resistance to fading further than that of OFDM.","PeriodicalId":340238,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research","volume":"438 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116012884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If a certain chaotic system is called the master system and another chaotic system is called the slave system, then anti-synchronization is said to occur when the state vectors of the master and slave systems have the same amplitude but opposite signs. This paper derives an important result for the anti-synchronization of identical chaotic systems using sliding mode control. This main result has been established using Lyapunov stability theory. In robust control systems, the sliding mode control (SMC) is often preferred in view of its inherent advantages such as easy realization, fast response, good transient performance and also insensitivity to parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. As an application of this general result, this paper solves the anti-synchronization problem for identical Wang-Chen chaotic systems (2012) via sliding mode control. Numerical simulations using MATLAB have been presented in detail to validate the sliding controller design for achieving anti-synchronization of identical Wang-Chen chaotic systems.","PeriodicalId":340238,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121221310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cooperation among the nodes in ad-hoc networks is an important issue for communication to be possible. But some nodes do not cooperate in communication and saves their energy. These nodes are called as selfish nodes. In the literature there are many methods which deal with the selfish behaviour of the nodes. This paper proposes an approach based on incentive mechanism in a different manner. Here nodes are \"made\" selfish for some time to encourage nodes to cooperate in the communication. This reduces selfish behaviour. Thus this approach is called as cut diamond with diamond.","PeriodicalId":340238,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121403635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For such applications to be successful, high accuracy and high speed performance are crucial. Image feature description determines accuracy and hence it should be robust against occlusion, rotation, and changes in object shapes and illumination conditions. Till date, many such feature descriptors have been proposed. Many of them are based on histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) along with support vector machine (SVM) classifier. Limitation of this method is high time consumption though it achieved good performance for Pedestrian Detection. To counter this limitation, a Two-step framework was proposed. It consisted two steps — full-body detection (FBD) and head-shoulder detection (HSD). Zhen Li proposed fusion of Haar-like and HOG features for better performance, and HSD step utilizes Edgelet features for classification and detection. But this method results in low detection rate and less computation speed. To counter these limitations, we have proposed an advanced method to improve both detection rate and speed. We achieve this by combination of Haar-like and Triangular features for FBD and Edgelet/Shapelet for HSD. We have achieved an average 95% detection rate and 60% faster speed for this proposed method.","PeriodicalId":340238,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125991370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A method for deriving symmetric filters is also illustrated in detail. We also overview the basics of filter bank and perfect reconstruction conditions associated with it. The effect of number of decimating and interpolating stages on compressibility of proposed filter banks is also highlighted. Experimentation of compression is done on sample database retinal images by computing its signal to noise ratio (SNR) for 2:1 and 4:1 compression ratio. Asynchronous adiabatic logic is an attractive approach of low-power design technique which combines the energy saving benefits of asynchronous systems with adiabatic benefits. In this work, a full adder using DRDAAL (Dual-Rail Domino with Asynchronous Adiabatic Logic) is designed and simulated, which exhibits better power-delay product and reliable logical operations. To improve the speed of circuits, dual-rail domino logic is introduced. The power-delay product of the proposed design is compared with the conventional CMOS full adder and the quasi-adiabatic families of full adder designs. Simulation results show better power-delay product characteristics for clock rates ranging from 100MHz to 200MHz.","PeriodicalId":340238,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125419564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on the direct synthesis approach. Analytical expressions for the PID controller are derived for a common type of process model. Although the controller is designed for disturbance rejection, the set point response is satisfactory and can be improved by adjusting a single set point weighing factor b. Three simulation examples demonstrate that the proposed design method results in very good control for process models. IAE (Internal absolute error) of the proposed method is having smaller value than DS-d controller. In example 2 it is reduced up to 85%. As a result the proposed design method provides better disturbance rejection than the standard direct synthesis.","PeriodicalId":340238,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117205346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The shapes of the character set in epigraphical scripts have varied over the eras. To understand the script, it is necessary to know the corresponding era and its character set. Lines and curves are the dominating features of these character sets. Since curvelet transform is effective to handle these features, in this paper Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform (FDCT) based model is designed to predict the era of the script. Experimentation is conducted on a data set comprising of 4145 images belonging to six different eras. The recognition result of the proposed method is 85.78%.
