Civic Education and Communication in Aristotle 亚里士多德的公民教育与交流

After examining the context of extensive issues on social communication and education in the history of ancient Greece, it aims to find the source of the concept of ‘communicating citizen’(civis communicans) in Aristotle’s ethics, political science, and rhetoric, in which Aristotle deals with the citizens and the state. What should be the civic education with the keyword of communication? A clue to find a solution of this question in Aristotle comes from a phrase that defines man as a political animal and at the same time defines it as the only animal with logos. This passage is important because, when Aristotle says here the difference of human from all the other animals is ‘logos,’ he describes logos as not only the ability to ‘think and to discern’ but also the ability to ‘talk and communicate’. According to these thoughts of Aristotle, a man does not think alone or speak alone, but grows up combining these two abilities while being educated in the home and society. Then, he lives not only thinking and discerning, but also participating in public affairs as a citizen by communicating with others in the state. It is a life to practice being a good citizen as a member of the community of Polis while pursuing personally to be a good person. And this is the image of ‘good man, good citizen’, which is the ideal goal of civic education pursued by this research.","PeriodicalId":340030,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference On Humanities, Psychology and Social Science","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124285355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the literature, there are recent studies that show assessing environmental awareness of hotel and restaurant employees’ attitudes is worthwhile. Here it is aimed to outline the potential of employees’ pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors for tourism and hospitality enterprises’ overall performance. In that regard, the attitudes and the core values of the next generation of tourism managers and employees could well be out most important. Future work should take up tourism administration students’ aspirations, attitudes and awareness levels about the pro-environmental behavior as a starting point for the investigation.","PeriodicalId":340030,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference On Humanities, Psychology and Social Science","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134181631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their value is timeless and many researches have studied this topic. This research paper focused on people’s perception about urban spaces in medium size cities in Greece. The research questions aimed to be answered were: How people use the urban spaces in medium size cities in Greece and why? How can people contribute in improving their cities? Larisa was chosen as case studies. Using qualitative data collection methods, it was concluded that there is a strong relation between public space morphology, people’s perception and social life in the cities. These conclusions could be useful in implementing successful planning interventions, in the context of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).","PeriodicalId":340030,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference On Humanities, Psychology and Social Science","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124763221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although national identity is often seen as a potential source of xenophobia and conflict, the Czech minority in Croatia is a model example of a functional coexistence and co-operation of more nationalities within a single state without full assimilation on the one hand or ethnic conflicts on the other. Czech schools and their teachers have an important role to play in preserving Czech identity in Croatia. That is why we focused our attention on how they perceive their role in the preservation of Czech national identity in the next generation as well. Through in-depth interviews with twelve educators, by open encoding and categorization, we identified the core category we called responsibility towards the minority. The results show that teachers perceive their profession in a wider context as important for the Czech minority for several reasons: 1) disseminate knowledge of the Czech language, 2) participate in the cultural life of the minority and encourage the involvement of children, 3) encourage children to pride and love for Czech origin. The key finding is that teachers and schools are open to all nationalities. What might appear to be an obstacle seems to be beneficial in terms of assimilation, because the Czech language and culture is also interested in other nationalities, and globalization itself in this case contributes to the preservation of national identity.","PeriodicalId":340030,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference On Humanities, Psychology and Social Science","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116962472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chandrashekar","doi":"10.33422/8HPS.2018.10.110","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33422/8HPS.2018.10.110","url":null,"abstract":"When one argues for euthanasia to be permitted in a society, autonomy becomes a central argument. However, autonomy remains an enigma as several papers in the past have stood their ground that there seems to be a misconception of how exactly autonomy is relevant and to what extent can autonomy alone be used as a significant element to support the act of euthanasia. A multitude of factors such as how moral discourses influence the meaning of euthanasia, conceptualization of life and death and philosophical standpoints according to these discourses play a vital role in shaping the idea of euthanasia. This paper asses this line of reason by investigating how moral discourses have a played a role in changing the way euthanasia has been perceived and what would this effect possibly have on society. Beginning with the current debates on end-of-life decision, the different discourses on how morals have shaped the idea of hastening one’s death is discussed. For instance, according to the post enlightenment era, people were influenced by logic and reason when choosing euthanasia rather than the concept of God. This is a primary illustration of a shift in the way euthanasia has been perceived and subsequent societies forming laws that either permit or criminalize the act. Moving forth, this paper argues if a connection is created between moral discourses and autonomy when it comes to choosing to end life under unbearable condition. It is concluded that that there has been a constant change in which euthanasia has been perceived and defined where moral discourses have played a vital role in making this happen. Moreover, it is also concluded that there is no method or argument to prove that euthanasia is right or wrong.","PeriodicalId":340030,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference On Humanities, Psychology and Social Science","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128941133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The same time in the context of multiple life options offered by the modern world and no clear evaluation criteria, early adults value hierarchy is especially valuable area of research. In the light of research on association between values and subjective well-being, the relationship between values and mental health still needs to be established. The aim of the study was to transfer Schwartz value theory to health psychology area and verify whether Growth values and Self-Protection values correlate with and predict mental health in depression, anxiety and resilience in polish population of early adults. Participants completed Portrait Value Questionnaire PVQ40, General Health Questionnaire GHQ-12 and Brief Resilience Scale BRS. The univariate and multivariate linear regression were employed in order to verify hypothesis. Results indicate that the Growth values and the Self-Protection values predict mental health in early adulthood. Conformity increases depression and decreases resilience, Self-Direction decreases depression and increases resilience, Tradition increases depression, while Achievement and Stimulation increase resilience. In the light of given results, Self-Direction and Conformity presents the greatest relation to mental health in both positive and negative aspects. Discussion, study limitations, and suggestions for further research were stated. ( F (1,110) = 4.23. p < .01, R = .32) Conformity (β = .114, p > .05), Tradition (β = .172, p > .05), and Self-Direction (β = -.203, p < .05), predict 10.5% of Depression. Given results indicate that out of personal values Self-Direction predicts Depression to the greatest extent. The same time Self-Direction seems to perform potential protective factor function. Security, Power, Achievement, Hedonism, Stimulation, Universalism and Benevolence do not significantly predict Depression. Anxiety. The results of univariate regression indicate that none of the values: Conformity, Tradition, Security, Power, Achievement, Hedonism, Stimulation, SelfDirection, Universalism, Benevolence predict Anxiety level. values Conformity F (1,110) = p .01, β = -.238), Achievement ( F (1,110) = 6.609, p < .01, β = .238 ), Stimulation ( F (1,110) = 5.329, p < .05, β = .215) and Self-Direction ( F (1,110) = 7.477, p < .01, β = .252). Predictive Power of these individual values remains weak as each: Conformity, Achievement and Self-Direction predicts 6% while Stimulation predicts 5% of Resilience. The higher Conformity, the lower Resilience. Conversely, the higher Achievement, Stimulation and Self-Direction, the higher Resilience. In multivariate linear regression ( F (4,107) = 5.048, p ≤ .001, R = .40) Conformity (β = -.264, p < .01), Achievement (β = .227, p < .05), Self-Direction (β = .156, p > .05) and Stimulation (β = .012, p > .05) predict 16% of Resilience. results Results indicate that the higher individually measure","PeriodicalId":340030,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference On Humanities, Psychology and Social Science","volume":"95 Suppl B 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124570171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
