It aims to satisfy the integration, ubiquity and broadband requirements of future networks. With the complexity of heterogeneity networks rising, the need to manage this complexity makes the realization of CWN well-timed and attractive. Many related projects to do further study have been built by research teams. During the past few years, we are working on a project called “Basic theory and Key Technologies in Cognitive Wireless Networks”. It is one of the major projects in National Basic Research Program (973 Program) approved by the Chinese government. Our research team concentrates on issues including network architecture, multi-dimension sensing technologies and radio resource management which are connected with each other. In this article, an overview of this project will be shown by introducing its purpose, research vision, research progress, and testbed.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125754910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To keep balance between energy consumption on client device and positioning accuracy, AP selection strategy is always proposed to select the most discriminant APs for positioning. In this paper, we propose an intelligent AP selection method based on joint location information gain. In contrast to traditional AP selection methods which measure the discriminant ability of APs independently, we consider it jointly. By considering the correlation of the discriminant ability between different APs, more accurate measure of the discriminant ability can be taken. Besides, support vector regression (SVR) positioning algorithm is combined to estimate the location. Experiments are carried in a realistic WLAN indoor environment. Experimental results show that, by using the intelligent AP selection method, the proposed positioning algorithm maintains a high-level accuracy while reducing the energy consumption on client device significantly.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127904871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our implementation is based on a powerful fully programmable software radio platform, i.e., the Microsoft Research Software Radio(MRSR) platform. Two kinds of nodes are designed in the testbed, one acts as the primary user(PU) which communicates in the authorized frequency band with dynamic spectrum activity, and the other acts as the secondary user(SU) which opportunistically accesses the vacant frequency without disrupting the transmission of primary user. To this end, the SU nodes are equipped with reliable multi-carrier sensing functionality, as well as some special multi-channel signalling and processing capabilities. Test results show that the SU nodes can alter their power, frequency and other parameters dynamically and communicate efficiently in response to the PU's spectrum activity.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115818161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address these challenges, Optical Wireless Integration (OWI) appears as a promising technology because optical access technologies provide high bandwidth, low transmission delay and reliability. In this paper, we propose a new mobility management protocol for OWI which takes advantage of several mobility management protocols specified by IETF and services defined by IEEE. The performance analysis and numerical results show that our mobility management protocol can effectively solve all the challenges related to seamless handover and can efficiently improve handover performance in terms of handover latency, signaling overhead, packet loss and packet reordering.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115882529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scheme uses XOR-operation NC at the relay and iterative decoding at the destination. We describe in detail the iterative decoding algorithm which can obtain the substantial spatial diversity contained in the XOR-operation NC and signal superposition. The proposed scheme is evaluated for AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels, and it is shown to improve the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the full-duplex relay networks in both cases. Simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme outperforms the referenced retransmission scheme, the reason for this is that the redundancy which is provided by the relay can be better exploited with XOR-operation NC.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"62-63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132338829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different access probability functions for different services were obtained and appropriate access probabilities for voice and data users were updated slot by slot based on the estimation of the voice traffic and the channel status. In the proposed MAC protocol limited wireless resource is allocated reasonably by multiple users and high capacity was achieved. Three performance parameters: voice packet loss probability, average delay of data packets and throughput of data packets were considered in simulation. Finally simulation results demonstrated that the performance of system was improved by the proposed MAC protocol, with an acceptable trade-off between QoS of voice and delay of data.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132400113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While solving the optimization problem with multiple constraints is computationally infeasible, we exploit the structure of the nonlinear equations to obtain an approximate solution. It can fairly allocate power among the second users (SUs) with significantly reduced complexity. Furthermore, we replace the traditional water-filling (WF) algorithm with a much faster alternative that can avoid repeated iterations to facilitate subcarrier power allocation within a single SU. Simulation results show the proposed algorithm can maintain a higher capacity, while effectively ensure the fairness among SUs compared with the referenced algorithms.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134049978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The topology design of industrial communication networks is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem, considering the specific requirements of industrial applications, e.g. the diversified real-time requirements, fast recovery time, high reliability, and low cost. Different from previous publications, the problem is discussed with respect to distributed multi-ring network structures. A weighted Dandelion encoding is proposed to represent multi-ring topologies and incorporated into a multi-objective genetic algorithm to find close-to-optimal solutions.
