Following the global economic crisis, it was observed that the budget allocations to social assistance had been increased, and cash transfers have been extended in many countries. In the 2001 and 2008 economic crises and during the global health crisis fueled by the pandemic, the social assistance schemes have emerged as crucial social policy intervention in responding to the social and economic effects of the situation. In Turkey, we could refer to a wide range of social assistance schemes. Yet, the emphasis of this article is on the cash for care which could be considered both social assistance and a care provision. In the European countries, there has been similar cash-for-care schemes being implemented since the 90s. However, unlike these cash-for-care schemes in Europe, in Turkey, the cash benefit is provided to the family member (care-giver) who provides care to a disabled or elderly in the family. In this context, the article deals with the cash for care scheme as a social assistance provision. It explores the concepts of deservingness and mobility concerning poor families' access to social assistance schemes. In our research that is being shared in the article, in-depth interviews were carried out with the social assistance provisions administrators, social workers, beneficiaries of the cash for care scheme, and the NGO representatives and based on their narratives, the concepts as mentioned above are being explored.","PeriodicalId":339416,"journal":{"name":"Toplum ve Sosyal Hizmet","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129469476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first representatives of the profession made efforts to make policy changes on issues such as women's rights, working hours and child labor. However, throughout the history of the profession, concerns have been expressed about the involvement of social workers in political activities. These concerns have been about maintaining the professional status of social workers, not wanting to be seen as a party to certain groups, and whether it is legal to engage in political activity as a government or non-profit employee. Today, however, it has become almost mandatory for the social work profession to participate in policy making processes. In this study, the scope of political social work and the relationship between social work and politics in Turkey and how it can be realized as practice have been tried to be revealed.","PeriodicalId":339416,"journal":{"name":"Toplum ve Sosyal Hizmet","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125603363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Families experiencing various problems due to the absence of the person or being \"convicted\" develop various strategies in order to cope with the problems they experience. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the strategies of coping with the problems experienced by the families of convicts after the person's conviction.
