This is the case because of the availability of several optimal centralized estimation methods. Alternatively, one has to compromise on the accuracy of estimates and run distributed estimators neglecting interactions. A low complexity block distributed Kalman filtering technique is proposed in this manuscript under the name of Approximate Distributed Kalman Filter (ADKF). ADKF distributes estimation while considering interactions, such that the accuracy of estimates is similar to the central estimator yet the computational complexity at each subsystem is significantly lower. The proposed ADKF algorithm is implemented on a continuous stirred tank reactor system, having multiple reactors in series. The simulation results show that the accuracy of estimates obtained from the proposed ADKF algorithm is comparable to the central estimator.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124710868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper, deals with a single input single output (SISO) system, where spray water flow is the manipulated variable & superheater temperature is the process variable. To operate the plant at higher efficiency, a precise control of superheater temperature (540°C± 5) control is required. Superheater temperature control through a simple PID controller is not satisfactory due to large process lag and process non-linearities and presence of external disturbances. An Internal Model Control (IMC) using artificial neural network (ANN) is procedurally easy to design and accounts for process non-linearities. ANN is obtained by training available plant input-output data of 125MWe CFBC boiler at NLC, Barsinghsar, India. Parameters for ANN are optimized by Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Results obtained by PID, Linear IMC and non-linear IMC structure are compared.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124723999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective is to identify the direction of information flow and to estimate the transfer function of each node simultaneously. The output of each node is affected by the outputs of the other nodes along with transportation delay and noise. In contrast to the existing works which are in discrete setting, the current paper uses continuous orthonormal basis to represent the transfer functions. As the network is sparsely connected, the topology identification problem is defined as an estimation of a block-sparse signal from the measurements and a standard lo minimization algorithm known as the block orthogonal matching pursuit (BOMP) is used to identify the topology. The accuracy of the proposed method is demonstrated using data obtained from a system of interconnected tanks. A comparison with discrete time topology identification methods shows that the CT method is more robust and provides the exact topology with higher probability.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133517500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The configuration space based methods are typically used for finding out the feasible and non-feasible areas for a mobile robot. Finding an optimal path considering admissible control inputs is challenging as it needs to explore all the possible options, present and future. The interval analysis approach can used for dividing the configuration space into feasible and non-feasible spaces. This technique is capable of dividing the space into intervals of different sizes which helps to cover the obstacles in a refined manner. This paper presents the computation of collision-free path using interval analysis between any two points in a 2D-environment cluttered with obstacles for a non-holonomic robot. The admissible control inputs for the robot are considered as constraints and are included in the configuration space parameters while computing the collision-free regions. The optimal shortest path between two points is computed using A∗ search algorithm and Pontryagin's minimum principle. Simulation results are shown using MATLAB by computing the path between two points considering selected control inputs as constraints.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127108482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed consensus algorithm ensures that agents' states converge to that of a maneuvering target in fixed-time. Each state of the agents (position, velocity, and acceleration) is exchanged over separate communication network which are assumed to be undirected. It is assumed that there exist one agent receiving target's information (position, velocity, and acceleration). It is not necessary that agent having target's position be the same which gets target's velocity and/or acceleration. However, the target cannot access the information of the agents. Lyapunov stability theory is used to establish the global stability of the proposed algorithm. Fixed time convergence of the proposed algorithm is established by using the concept of bi-limit homogeneity of a vector field. We also show that the proposed fixed-time algorithm can be extended directly to design a multi-agent formation control law. Effectiveness of the proposed consensus algorithm is presented by numerical results.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129892063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New technologies are emerging in power systems for energy management. These recent prospects have triggered the question, whether installing PV panels coupled with batteries for a residential load is economical?. In this manuscript, a decision support algorithm is developed for determining the feasibility of installing the PV-battery hybrid system for grid-connected residential loads. An objective function based technique is also introduced for optimal sizing of rooftop PV panels and battery for grid-connected systems under dynamic pricing. Further, generation on load side will also decrease the burden on the grid. Results for sizing the hybrid system for a residential load is presented. Sensitivity analysis is carried out over PV panels, battery, and grid prices. Results suggest that the size of components and savings from system decreases with increase in PV and battery unit prices. It is more economical to install the system when grid prices are higher.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127119987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Towards this, a novel quadrotor attitude actuation system having movable control masses to vary its CoG is proposed. A detailed non-linear mathematical model is derived to capture the complex dynamics of this multi-body system — quad-rotor augmented with CoG varying actuators. The addition of CoG varying mechanism to a conventional quad-rotor leads to over actuation of the roll and pitch degrees of freedom. Therefore, control allocation is performed such that the roll and pitch degrees of freedom are controlled using CoG varying mechanism, whereas vertical motion and yaw stabilization is taken care of by the rotor angular speed control. Based on the developed mathematical model, an integral back-stepping controller is designed to stabilize and control the attitude and position of the proposed configuration. Further, the robustness of the designed controller and the proposed actuation mechanism is demonstrated through various simulations that are performed with measurement noise, and model and parameter uncertainties.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134466033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed SCCS has two proportional-integral (PI) controllers and one proportional (P) controller. Method of moments and Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion are used to obtain the PI and P controller settings, respectively. Contemporary series cascade control strategies provide a range for the closed-loop time constants and expects the user to perform hit and trial search within the given range to arrive at a suitable tradeoff between performance and robustness. In contrast to the recent works, analytical expressions are proposed for computing the closed-loop time constants based on the user-defined maximum sensitivity. The proposed tuning strategy requires tuning of just five controller parameters. Simulation studies illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133495670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chaos control techniques such as the OGY and OPF techniques apply small perturbations to a system parameter to stabilize an unstable periodic orbit present in a chaotic attractor. But it may happen that the system parameters may not be available for control. For example, in structural systems, it is difficult to alter their geometry and material properties in real-time, so as to suppress chaos. In such cases, use of state feedback control will provide ease of implementation. The orbit closure technique is a novel method of controlling chaos wherein a finite time control effort is applied to the system states, once per period, to bring back the chaotic trajectory to a desired periodic orbit so as to stabilize it. In this manuscript, the orbit closure technique is applied to create and stabilize limit cycles of different time periods in the Lorenz attractor. The control effort required for closure of the orbits is provided through feedback linearization. As a pilot study, the efficacy of the proposed technique is demonstrated through numerical simulations in this manuscript. Further, the influence of the control gain on the shape and time period of the stabilized orbit is studied and reported.","PeriodicalId":338695,"journal":{"name":"2018 Indian Control Conference (ICC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123704185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
