The adopted model is outdated and not compliant with today’s more secure, dynamic, and application-driven environments. Unstructured Supplementary Services Data (USSD) legacy technology is widely deployed in SSA countries due to several factors including compatibility with handsets, user experience, cost, and ease of deployment for the MNOs. A survey reveals that USSD is used by approximately 65-75% of the population for mobile payments. The MNOs infrastructure was developed for connectivity, rather than security, making the e-money ecosystem prone to cyber-attacks. End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is one of the recommended cybersecurity solution mechanisms. This research shows that tokenization with identity based encryption techniques is a suitable model to secure financial transactions over USSD as it provides an end-to-end encrypted path when combined with Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) while lessening changes to the technology itself and the underlying network. This implementation introduces additional cost for maintenance and management, and therefore, the governments need to adopt market-friendly laws, regulations, and policies to develop employable skills and facilitate MNOs’ return on investment.","PeriodicalId":338649,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conferences on Applied Computing 2022 and WWW/Internet 2022","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122046933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we describe some recent findings of our ongoing research on the impact of first-class patterns on the type system of our Asteroid programming language, a dynamically typed, multi-paradigm programming language that supports first-class patterns. First, we show that first-class patterns allow us to specify subtypes of data types providing a light-weight mechanism for type checking function domains amongst other things. Next, we introduce the idea of a pure constraint pattern which is a pattern that functions like a regular pattern but does not introduce any spurious bindings into the current scope. This is particularly useful for preventing non-linearities in formal function arguments when using first-class patterns. Finally, we demonstrate that first-class patterns can be used to define abstract base types enabling subtype polymorphism. This is particularly powerful in object-based languages like Asteroid that lack inheritance and therefore cannot rely on that mechanism to provide subtype-supertype relationships between user defined types.","PeriodicalId":338649,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conferences on Applied Computing 2022 and WWW/Internet 2022","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128689210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This process involves several factors, and often patients forgot to take their medicine. Thus, mechanisms that can contribute to therapy adherence are fundamental. The goal of this work has been the development of a real-time and automatic video object recognition system (HMEDASYS) to be used in the context of adherence and medication taking in-home care. The methodology followed has been to train a classifier model for medication pack recognition using Deep Learning. Combining and organizing data from previously annotated images, we retrained a neural network using the YoloV4-tiny Framework. In the experiments developed, two different classes of medicines were used for training and the system achieved a mAP of 98.33% on the test set. During the operation of HMEDASYS, the medication packs are real-time monitored using a video camera coupled with the developed system. In further 8 evaluation scenarios of the operation, only two errors were verified in a total of 16 medication packs to be identified.","PeriodicalId":338649,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conferences on Applied Computing 2022 and WWW/Internet 2022","volume":"450 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128890494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The project was conducted by a multidisciplinary team of technical developers, social scientists, lawyers, practitioners, and migration experts in three pilot countries of Cyprus, Spain, and Italy. The project focused on deepening societal understanding of the factors that impact upon refugee and migrant populations’ ability to access key public services and subsequently created an ICT solution to solve these problems. The project deployed a co-creation methodology, which proved essential when designing ICT solutions to aid migrant integration, enabling researchers to involve both the migrants and those assisting them in their migration journeys, namely NGOs and service providers in the study as co-researchers. The researchers, together with the participants co-designed a multilingual, intuitive, inclusive, interactive platform called IMMERSE that catered for the real needs of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees. The innovative co-creation methodology deployed empowered migrants to be proactive and independent in their migration journeys and the resulting interactive platform created provides vital access to information and services like health, language, housing, employment, education, and legal assistance in a one-stop-shop design. This paper further highlights the lessons learned from the research, concerning the need for digital training courses to be implemented to overcome the digital divide and the inclusion of extensive legal and ethical protocols in migrant languages, to be integrated into the platform to counteract migrants’ fears of digital surveillance and create confidence and wider usage of the ICT platform.","PeriodicalId":338649,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conferences on Applied Computing 2022 and WWW/Internet 2022","volume":"246 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133516719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The same concept of social network influencer may also be explored in the financial markets, considering user profiles whose expressed opinions align with the performance of a company's shares. Several users interested in the stock exchange use Twitter as a platform to express their opinions on stocks. Considering that tweets express either a positive, negative, or neutral feeling about a stock, we present a model to describe the profile of an influencer, as well as analyze the correlation between their tweets and the performance of a stock. Relying on a genetic algorithm to best describe an influencer’s profile and selecting the best fit from a set of features, this study provides a comparison between sentiment analysis techniques, applied on social network content, produced by potential influencers. We present a study of several sentiment analyses approaches, namely using Support Vector Machines, Neural Networks, Naïve Bayes, and K-Nearest Neighbors. Results show that the method with the best performance is the Neural Network. This outcome is used as a parameter for analyzing an influencer's tweets. Validation shows that, by integrating a genetic algorithm for influencer detection with a sentiment analysis technique based on Neuronal Networks, it is possible to identify users with social network content sentiment score correlated with variations in a share price, thus representing an information signal suitable to be used by prediction models.","PeriodicalId":338649,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conferences on Applied Computing 2022 and WWW/Internet 2022","volume":"37 20","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120814117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
