For a successful application, it is important that the position and orientation of a mobile robot must be determined properly. In this paper, a simple procedure for determining the orientation of the mobile robot using two cameras is presented. The two cameras are used to capture the images of a mobile robot at various orientations. Four simple neural network models are developed to associate the inputs and output (orientation). First and second neural network models are used to estimate the orientation of a mobile robot using only the features derived from the first and second camera. The third neural network model is used for estimating the orientation of a mobile robot using features derived from both the first and second camera. The fourth neural network model is used to estimate the orientation using features derived from the combined images. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can be used to estimate the orientation of the mobile robot accurately.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122298671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple experimental procedure is also proposed to measure the vibration at different positions of a steel plate. The plate is excited by an impulse signal and made to vibrate; statistical features are then extracted from the vibration signals which are measured at different locations. These features are then used to develop a neural network model. A simple neural network model trained by back propagation algorithm is then developed based on the statistical time energy features to classify the damage location in a steel plate. The effectiveness of the system is validated through simulation.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127672818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system can be use as a security system such as verification for assessing entry application and password substitutions. Signature verification technology requires primarily a digitizing tablet and a special pen connected to the Universal Serial Bus Port (USB port) of a computer. An individual can sign on the digitizing tablet using the special pen regardless of his signature size and position. The signature is characterized as pen-strokes consisting x-y coordinates and the data will be stored in the signature database in the form of a txt.file. These characteristics uniquely identify a person and cannot be mimicked or stolen. In this project, the method of Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used to focuses in verifying the signature.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129295549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the various applications under some limit bandwidths, rate control has been a necessary and important part of it. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm adopted constant quality real-time rate control for H.264/AVC high definition videos.Comparing with the off-line algorithms our proposal uses real-time one-pass method to reduce calculation time and complexity estimating parameters to allocate target bits more accurately. The predicted Mean Absolute Difference(MAD) is adjusted by distortion parameters after the normal MAD prediction model. This proposal also uses data of last several reference frames helping to form a complexity model and determines the target bits. The result shows this proposal can keep the fluctuation of video quality in low level while maintaining the SPNR of high definition videos.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"183 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127043753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hypothyroidism is a condition caused by insufficient production of thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland. The proposed technique is robust as it automatically extracts and analyzes features of infant cry signal. In pre-processing of the signals, separation of voice or unvoiced sections is implemented with automatic segmentation that integrates zero rate crossing and short time energy methods. For feature extraction, the Mel frequency cepstrum coefficient analysis is used to extract main features from the infant cry signal. Then, similarities between the two types of signals and significant information are studied using the F-Ratio analysis. Results show that the F-Ratio analysis was able to discriminate between essential and non-essential features for classification.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121482496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is to compare two sources of spatial information. In analyzing such information quantitatively, the two datasets are summarized in a confusion matrix, which is represented in a form of percentage of predicted value against its actual data (ground truth). The common acceptable percentage is eighty percent and above. In this paper, we present a new way of accuracy assessment by introducing an additional value called residual error (or predicted error). The residual error is the percentage of error exists when two sources of major errors called mis-classification and mis-location are integrated. Such residual error is incorporated into the assessment so that the results are more accurate and comprehensive. As a case study, we calculate the residual errors of five independent image classifications from six different datasets. Therefore, the accuracy assessment is performed with more details that include not only the confusion matrix, but also the residual errors. In this way, the results of the change detection process can help in doing further analysis for urban growth and land development, particularly for town area.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127648671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The motivation of this approach is the desire of using the advantages of curvelet transform into mammogram analysis. Curvelet provide stable, efficient and near-optimal representation of otherwise smooth objects having discontinuities along smooth curves. Since medical images have several objects and curved shaped, it is expected that the curvelet transform would be better for classification of cancer classes in digital mammogram. To construct and evaluate a supervised classifier for this problem, by transforming the data of the images in curvelet basis and then using a special set of coefficients as the features tailored towards separating each of those classes. The experimental results indicate that using curvelet transform significantly improves the classification of cancer classes.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116919645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper addresses one way to identify agricultural produce based on their shape. The techniques used are based on support vector machines. The images of the produce are loaded into MATLAB and the features extracted using image processing techniques based on edge detection. These features are then input to a classifier; i.e., a support vector machine, for identification. A regular digital camera is used for acquiring the image, and all manipulations are performed in a MATLAB / SIMULINK environment.
