Design of the timing recovery is crucial for the detector, and it becomes complicated in the presence of the nonlinear effects. In this article, we examine the effects of the Muller & Mueller's phase detector for a nonlinear magnetic recording channel. For simplicity, computer simulations are used to demonstrate the nonlinear effects for a partial response class IV equalized channel. The nonlinear effects, transition shift and partial erasure, are simulated. The results show that a transition shift causes a non-uniform shift of the S-curve with a different timing error, and the partial erasure effect decreases the slope of the S-curve.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129635057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More recently, IP networks are employing Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) which offers better switching and enables Virtual Private Network (VPN). However, the service quality is becoming a major issue in MPLS networks due to having to accommodate the higher bandwidth consumption by certain applications such as voice over IP (VoIP), client-server and peer-to-peer applications, java applications and customized applications. This paper will focus on the implementation of Quality of Service (QoS) in MPLS networks using the java network simulation tool called J-SIM. There are many types quality of service can be offered in MPLS network and one of them is Differentiated Services or Diffserv which is being used in this work. This paper presents the QoS benefits of Diff-Serv aware MPLS networks when simulating the network using J-Sim. Outputs such as throughput and packet drops will be discussed in this paper also.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128179855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was conducted by interviewed all samples. Then, EEG signals were captured from the samples before and after under-going three sessions of HR. Basically, brainwave has four frequency bands which are Alpha, Beta, Theta and Delta. However, this paper will only focus on theta and delta. Paired T-test analysis was used and graphs were plotted to show the correlation between the left and right brainwave before and after HR intervention to verify brainwave dominant. It was observed that, after HR for all three sessions most of brainwaves were balanced but still some of brainwaves signals show unbalanced condition.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131253932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It involves the design of a conductivity sensing probe, its associated control circuitry and an actuation mechanism. The conductivity sensor applies a direct current to two electrodes and measures the potential voltage. The control circuitry computes the switching action of the actuation mechanism which acts in response to a specific level of conductivity. This control system determines whether the wastewater from the wastewater treatment system is clean enough to be discharged based on the water conductivity. Experimental result covered by this low cost conductivity control system ranges from 0.08 µS to 0.632 S and shows a switching voltage of 2.23 volts which corresponds to 20 µS, a requirement for treated water from small scale wastewater treatment system for etching process of printed circuit board. The wastewater is recycled when the water conductivity reaches above 20 µS while the wastewater is discharged otherwise.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123640023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study related to investigation of the use of AIRSAR imagery compare to SPOT imagery for land cover mapping purpose. Covering the Muda Merbok area as a case study, 10 meters resolution of airborne (AIRSAR imagery) and 20 meters resolution of optical based (SPOT imagery) which has been resample into 10 meters resolution output were used. The imageries used were at same year 2000. Both imageries had been processed by using ENVI (for AIRSAR imagery) and ERDAS IMAGINE (for SPOT imagery). The synthesize or decompress data, slant to ground range conversion, mask pixels of extreme values, antenna pattern correction and speckle removing were among the steps in AIRSAR data processing. For SPOT imagery the general steps like geocoding, subset, clumps, eliminate and recode were used. The supervised classifications for both images were performed to produce the classification maps. From these two images processing, comparison between both of the images were performed and then the land cover mapping for AIRSAR and SPOT were produced. It is found that land cover mapping based from the AIRSAR imagery is also reliable for land cover mapping compared to SPOT imagery.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129859864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An individual human is modeled as an assembly of natural body parts. Some part based SVM classifiers are trained first by using histogram of orientated gradient feature. Different from other boosting methods, region information is stored in each classifier. When detect human in crowed scene, according to the information of humans that have already been detected, the information of available regions could be obtained, when a new detection window is in process. In classifier sequence, the classifiers whose regions are available are selected for generating the final classifier. This method could achieve good performance on images and video sequences with several occlusions.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128296561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

BMI is a measurement of body fat based on height and weight. Using BMI as reference, all 63 samples were given interviewed and then categorized into 3 groups before undergoing EEG recording. The groups are underweight (index ≪20), ideal weight (index 20–24) and overweight (index ≫24). The brainwaves data were analyzed using paired T test from SPSS software. It was observed that there were higher correlations between BMI and brainwave pattern for overweight category as compared to the other two. Generally, it can also be concluded that ideal weight participants have less stress than the others do.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127262210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An adaptive predictive Mamdani fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is introduced in this paper. A predictive control is needed to estimate required control torque at the next sampling time since the satellite system is having time delays. The adaptive portion is using a model reference and the response of the satellite is compared to minimize the output error by adapting the adaptive gain to the controller torque. Y-Thompson regulating control is adapted to the satellite system as the reference input throughout the simulation. The design schemes of modeling adaptive and predictive FLC are described as follow: Basic FLC, Predictive FLC and Adaptive and Predictive FLC (APFLC). The simulation results show that the attitude motion can be controlled with adaptive and predictive FLC even in the presence of noise, disturbance and nonlinearity.","PeriodicalId":338469,"journal":{"name":"2009 5th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126734821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
