Herein, a nanoporous indium-bismuth (np-InBi) alloy was fabricated by chemical dealloying of a ternary Mg-In-Bi precursor, and shows a three-dimensional ligament-channel structure. As the anode for SIBs and PIBs, the np-InBi alloy exhibits decent initial discharge capacity. More importantly, the Na/K storage mechanisms of the np-InBi electrode were investigated using operando X-ray diffraction (XRD). The operando XRD results demonstrate that the (de)sodiated mechanism of the np-InBi electrode in SIBs involves (de)alloying processes between InBi + Bi to Na3Bi + Na15In27 via the intermediate products of NaBi + Na15In27 + In. Simultaneously, the (de)potassiated mechanism of the np-InBi electrode in PIBs yields the reversible processes of InBi + Bi ↔ KBi2 + Bi3In5 ↔ K3Bi + K8In11.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130281851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using an experimentally validated multidimensional multiphysics model describing a high energy NMC811/Si-C cylindrical lithium-ion battery, the effects of tabless design and cooling topologies are evaluated for 18 650, 21 700, and 4680 cell formats under varying charging protocols. Mantle cooling is found to be the most efficient cooling topology for a segmented tab design, whereas tab cooling performs equally well for tabless cells and achieves better performance for the 4680 format. By massively reducing polarization drops (approx. 250 mV at 3C) and heat generation inside the current collectors (up to 99%), the tabless design increases cell homogeneity and enables format-independent scalability of fast-charging performance with a tab-cooling topology. In addition, the 0 to 0.8 SoC charge time can be reduced by 4 to 10 min compared to cells with a segmented tab design, resulting in 16.2 min for the 18 650 and 21 700, and 16.5 min for the larger 4680 cell format.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132071352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The necessity of determination of AD is inevitable for the diagnosis of associated diseases with it. For this purpose, N-doped graphene supported α-Co(OH)2 (denoted as NrGO/α-Co(OH)2) was synthesized via a hydrothermal process, where α-Co(OH)2 acted as an active site and NrGO provided a better defective surface for immobilized α-Co(OH)2 nanoparticles. The as-prepared nanocomposite altered the electronic configuration due to its defective nature, which played an important role to increase the stability, surface area and electron transfer capability. As a result, NrGO/α-Co(OH)2 demonstrated remarkable analytical performances toward AD with a lower limit of detection (14.7 nM), wide linear range (0.5–800 μM), and good sensitivity (115.983 μA mM−1 cm−2). The CA response time was obtained as 2.2 s. The proposed sensor showed precious selectivity during AD detection in presence of coexisting biomolecules such as DA, AA, UA, TY, 5-HT, and NE, and 50-fold excess of common ions such as Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mn2+, Fe2+, CO3 2−, and SO4 2−. Furthermore, it also provided long-term stability, good reproducibility and repeatability with practical feasibility in the urine sample. Importantly, the effect of pH was studied in detail on AD oxidation.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129703899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, a molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor with highly selective recognition and detection of trace hyperoside was prepared using chitosan functionalized Nitrogen-doped graphene composite coated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs/N-GR@CS) as electrode substrate modification material, and the deposition of AuNPs further improved the conductivity of the modified electrode. With the aid of molecular imprinting technology, polymer films with high selectivity and identification of hyperoside were successfully prepared on glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) by self-assembly using hyperoside as template molecule and acrylamide as functional monomer. Because the acrylamide can accept protons through the olefinic double bond and firmly polymerize with each other, while it binds with hyperoside through hydrogen bonds. Therefore, the hyperoside can be easily dissociated in the eluate, which offers a condition for formating a molecularly imprinted polymer film to highly select hyperoside. The highly conductive N-GR@CS modified at the bottom of the polymer film provides the possibility to electrocatalyze hyperoside, and facilitate electron transfer to amplify the response signal. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the sensor showed a detection limit was 6.42 × 10−8 mol l−1 (S/N = 3) with a good linear relationship in the range of 2.15 × 10−7 to 2.15 × 10−5 mol l−1. Moreover, it displayed good reproducibility and stability, and could realize the direct and highly selective detection of trace hyperoside in complex samples. In consequence, this study is expected to provide a convenient and reliable method for on-site real-time evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) quality with reference to the index components.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127754931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thermoplastic starch (TPS) was used because it is a polymer with high availability and biodegradability, which can be incorporated into graphite (Gr) forming a conductive material. This work describes the characterization of the material produced by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), contact angle, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The techniques used allowed to show a good interaction between graphite and TPS and confirmed the predicted conductive properties, showing the potential of application as a substrate, in the development of electrochemical sensors. Electrochemical characterization by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) was also carried out, which allowed defining the best proportion of graphite:TPS as the composite of 60:40 w/w. The technique of differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was used to determine the catechol molecule over a range of 0.1 to 2.0 mmol l−1, showing a linear regression (R2) of 0.9996 and limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) values equal to 1.85 × 10−6 mol l−1 and 6.18 × 10−7 mol l−1, respectively. The drug development and formulation process are not without challenges. However, the effective use of excipients can allow formulators to circumvent or at least minimize the impact of these challenges. Some of the challenges include ensuring a high quality of actives, free from impurities, and ensuring administration in appropriate quantities. Incorrect dosing can have a detrimental impact on the body. Evaluation of the quality and physiological function of these drugs in pharmaceutical and biological samples is vital. Considering this, we explore the potential application of electrochemical methods for the detection of these drugs. Electrochemical methods are versatile and enable faster and cheaper detection in comparison to conventional techniques. This review paper provides an outline of the latest developments and new trends in electroanalysis of the first generation of nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors class of drugs. Furthermore, we highlight several phenomena occurring on bare solid electrodes and modified electrodes, including underlying mechanisms. In addition, we investigate the physical and electrochemical properties together with their figures of merits. The review covers only the reactions occurring at the surface of bare and modified electrodes and the reader is referred to the cited literature for the corresponding voltammograms of these studies. Recent data shows that modified electrodes based on nanoparticles present substantial advantages over their non-modified counterparts enabling portability, higher selectivity, and multiple detection capabilities. Structural, morphological and elemental analyses of the fabricated sensor electrodes were performed via different characterization techniques like X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), elemental dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FT-IR). The cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies of the hybrid nanoelectrode (CuO/PEDOT-MoS2) exhibited better redox activity and electron transfer kinetics, as compared with the CuO/PEDOT and CuO only systems. Accordingly, the electrochemical parameters of all the systems were determined and compared at large. The CuO/PEDOT-MoS2 hybrid electrode system offered a significant enhancement in the electroactive area (∼1.47 cm2) and rate constant (0.76 s−1) upon oxidizing glucose into gluconic acid. In the CV responses, an augmented activity was monitored at +0.6 V which was considered as the dc bias potential in the chronoamperometric experiment for detecting glucose suitably. The sensor electrode yielded a low LOD of 0.046 μM and with a sensitivity magnitude as high as 829 μA mM−1 cm−2 over a wide linear range, between 30 μM to 1.06 mM of glucose concentration. Specifically, most models continue to employ a constant value of diffusion coefficient along with several lumped fitting parameters, instead of a variable formulation that is dependent on the temperature and concentration of Li-ions, to characterize Li-ion batteries (LIBs). As a result, the current models fail in predicting the capacity fading accurately. In overcoming this gap, we have employed a previously proposed temperature and concentration-dependent diffusion equation to present a modified mathematical model that is capable of accurately predicting the capacity fading and SEI growth rate as a function of temperature, concentration, and time, with just two significantly simplified temperature dependent fitting parameters. Further, these parameters need to be adjusted only for new temperatures. Our enhanced model is validated with respect to the experimental data for different operational conditions, including open circuit condition with different initial state of charges (SOCs) as well as cycling with a constant current.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131207347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
