In this work, we present the use of avocado peels as a sustainable source for conversion into hard carbon-based anodes for sodium ion batteries. The avocado peels are simply washed and dried then proceeded to a high temperature conversion step. Materials characterization reveals conversion of the avocado peels in high purity, highly porous hard carbon powders. When prepared as anode materials they show to the capability to reversibly store and release sodium ions. The hard carbon-based electrodes exhibit excellent cycling performance, namely, a reversible capacity of 352.55 mAh g−1 at 0.05 A g−1, rate capability up to 86 mAh g−1 at 3500 mA g−1, capacity retention of >90%, and 99.9% coulombic efficiencies after 500 cycles. Cyclic voltammetry studies indicated that the storage process was diffusion-limited, with diffusion coefficient of 8.62 × 10−8 cm2 s−1. This study demonstrates avocado derived hard carbon as a sustainable source that can provide excellent electrochemical and battery performance as anodes in sodium ion batteries.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125405706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Iraj Jodan Synthesized Ag-nanoparticles and alizarin yellow polymer based electrochemical sensor for thiourea detection. Alizarin yellow polymer provide stability, chemical attachment on the electrode surface but it is toxic to lungs, mucous membranes, and can cause organs damage by continuously disclosure to it.1 For solving this problem, r-GO has pasted on electrode surface that provided excellent conduction as well as large surface area and had excellent sensitivity and low detection limit toward TU. Herein, this theme is materialized for the detection of thiourea (TU). Briefly, reduced graphene (r-GO) sheets with silver (Ag) nanoparticles impregnated were prepared via hydrothermal and chemical reduction method. The synthesized nano-composite material was characterized by various physiochemical techniques like FTIR, XRD, SEM and Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and applied as synthesized for the detection and sensing of TU, a well-known carcinogen. The Ag-rGO changed electrode enhanced approximately three times greater anodic current as compared to rGO and five times greater anodic current as compare to GCE. Electrically and catalytically oxidation TU was achieved by GCE, GO, rGO and Ag-rGO at 0.2 V to 0.25 V applying cyclic voltammetry (CV). The concentrations were used 10 μM to 50 μM, while the current at anode increased as the concentration increased. The rGO and Ag-rGO also planned at various concentrations. The anodic current is increased by increasing scan rate of 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 mV s−1. So it could be used for recognition of TU in real time sample with good sensitivity, stability and reproducibility.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125558141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, considered as an oldie as its pharmaceutical usage started in the 19th -century lithium is also a goodie used as the first-line treatment for bipolar disorder, also it is considered to be the only treatment with anti-suicidal effects. During treatment, lithium levels should be monitored as its therapeutic levels (0.5–0.8 mM) in the blood are close to intoxication levels (>1.5 mM) and to severe intoxication levels >2.5 mM that might induce coma. That is why it is necessary for patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder to monitor lithium levels frequently. In fact, there are many traditional analytical techniques for lithium detection. Still, these are associated with limitations as they are very expensive, time-consuming, and not found in all laboratories. So, the need to develop a cost-effective, sensitive, and easy-to-handle devices has grown. Affinity sensors constituted a promising potential for the sensitive detection of lithium. This review, to my knowledge, is the first review highlighting the different types of biosensors developed for lithium-ion detection while explaining the mode of action of each biosensor, and talking about all possible biological fluids that can be used for the detection of this drug.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127783056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, different top electrodes and oxygen concentration flows were used with stacked ZnO/Ga2O3 as the switching layer to enhance the performance of Ga2O3-based RRAM. All switching layers were deposited by radio frequency sputtering in this study, and the oxygen vacancies were well controlled by controlling the oxygen concentration flow. When a stacked structure was formed, the gradients in the concentration of oxygen vacancies and mobility influenced the set and reset processes. With the stacked structure, the average set voltage was 1.5 V, and the average reset voltage was −0.7 V. In addition, under DC sweeps, the stacked RRAM demonstrated a high operating life of more than 300 cycles. In conclusion, the performance and stability of RRAM can be enhanced by adjusting the concentration of oxygen vacancies using different compositions of elements.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121706512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, a novel synthetic method, without using toxic solvents, has been developed to prepare HKUST-1 MOF nanoparticles from coprecipitation reaction of copper (II) chloride and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (trimesic acid) in distilled water. The synthesized nanoparticles were first characterized by X–ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier–transform infrared spectroscopy (FT–IR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The flat–band potential, conduction band, and valence band edges of HKUST-1 nanoparticles were experimentally determined in alkaline solution, and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS) analysis showed the band gap energy to be 2.5 eV. Electrochemical working electrodes were prepared by electrophoretic deposition of HKUST-1 on the surface of a stainless steel electrode for electrochemical voltammetry and impedance measurements. For the first time the prepared HKUST-1 nanoparticles were investigated as multifunctional electrocatalysts for both overall water splitting and CO2 reduction in alkaline solution. The Tafel plot was used to show the relationship between the over–potential (η) and the logarithmic current density, revealing the kinetic parameters of the electrochemical reactions. Furthermore, the Tafel slope was determined to be 190 mVdec−1, indicating that the Volmer mechanism with electrochemical desorption of hydrogen acts as the rate–determining step (RDS).","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115133142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
