The results showed that Ag was deposited along the carbon fibers and further grew into Ag particles. The Ag loading on CP was higher than that of CC at the same current density, and the difference increased further with the current density increase. Nafion coating was applied on the as-electrodeposited Ag/Ag2O/CP electrode to prevent the degradation of Ag particles using dip coating, followed by drop coating. The Nafion-coated Ag/Ag2O/CP electrodes showed much better electroosmotic pump performance and long-term stability than the uncoated electrodes, revealing that the Nafion ionomer can enhance the proton conductivity and mitigate the degradation of Ag particles during the electrochemical reactions. The EO pumps built with Nafion-modified Ag/Ag2O/CP electrodes with an active area of 0.28 cm2 generated a maximum pressure of 157 kPa and a maximum flow rate of 28.21 ul min−1. The Postmortem analysis of the pumped working fluids collected from the EO pumps operated at a constant potential for three days was performed to further investigate the effects of Nafion coating on Ag degradation.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133979972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surface morphology shows the formation of grains and the growth dynamics is governed by roughness (α) and growth (β) exponents. X-ray diffraction studies reveal that V2O5 exists in a hybrid form, with properties of both the orthorhombic and tetragonal phases. Ion implantation induces defects and strain in V2O5 thin films causing a reduction in crystalline properties and deformation in the β-phase with a corresponding change in crystallite size. Contact angle wetting properties are found to be co-related with fractal growth of the films under ion implantation. Oxygen vacancies and electron scattering/trapping centres are revealed to have increased after N+ implantation, leading to a smaller bandgap in the thin films. The benefits of decreasing the optical band-gap of V2O5 thin films for optical applications are outlined in the present work.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121305448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chemical and morphological properties of the as-synthesized nanostructures were investigated and confirmed by infrared spectroscopy (ATR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The electrochemical measurements demonstrated that both the good conductivity of and the large active surface area of the hierarchical structure of NiCo-LDH/rGO-CuO favor the electrochemical redox reaction of 5-CP. In the optimized procedure, we have evaluated the analytical performance of the NiCo-LDH/rGO-CuO/AuE using cyclic voltammetry based on the current intensities of the redox peaks. Our findings indicate that the developed NiCo-LDH/rGO-CuO/AuE sensor exhibits a wide linear range from 1 to 50 μM while the limit of detection was estimated to be 12.64 nM for 5-CP. Moreover, the suggested 5-CP sensor displayed an excellent stability that might provide a robust sensing platform for the practical and reliable detection of 5-CP in various real samples.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114283636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cyclic voltammetry (CV) showed peaks characteristic of the PAni redox behavior in acidic media for all the modified SPEs. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed a significant decrease in the charge-transfer resistances, from 930 Ω for SPE/G:PAni to 544 Ω for SPE/G:PAni-rGO1 and to 303 Ω for SPE/G:PAni-rGO2 with just 0.06% and 0.12% in mass of rGO, respectively, in the final mass composition of the conductive inks. The SPEs were evaluated in the determination of progesterone (P4) hormone in neutral medium (phosphate buffer solution, pH 7.0). The CV results showed higher current signals at SPE/G:PAni-rGO1 compared with SPE/G and SPE/G:PAni, indicating a synergistic effect of PAni-rGO1 in the determination of P4. EIS also showed significant changes in the electrochemical double-layer capacitances in the presence of P4. The limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were, respectively, 211 nmol l−1 and 703 nmol l−1. This method is a simple, scalable and low-cost alternative for the fabrication of electrodes based on PAni-rGO hybrids, with synergic properties, aiming for future applications in sensors.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122186558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the current work, MoS2 was prepared by a simple hydrothermal method using sodium molybdate and thiourea as precursors. The calculated band gap values of MoS2 grown at 200 °C and 180 °C were 2.1 eV and 1.98 eV, respectively. Flower like morphology was observed from FESEM analysis. Multi layered structure of MoS2 was confirmed from the difference the peak value obtained for A1g and E1 2g vibrational modes observed from Raman spectra. The reusability of the synthesized MoS2 was analyzed against MB dye degradation. The pristine MoS2 removed ∼98% of the dye molecules from the water under the minimum wattage (20 W) of visible light in 180 min. The catalyst retained good stability even after the third degradation, confirming the reusability of MoS2. The disk diffusion method was used to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the grown MoS2 nanostructures. The gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria used in present study were Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli and Bacillus serius. Investigation of the antibacterial activity of MoS2 against these four different pathogens was carried out in detail and the resistance function was measured.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129262941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PtRu alloys are most widely employed as catalysts because they provide high activities at low potentials. However, they produce acetic acid as the main product from ethanol, which results in low faradaic and overall efficiencies. In contrast, Pt provides high selectivity for the complete oxidation of ethanol to CO2, but low activities. Ru@Pt core–shell nanoparticles can improve efficiency by delivering higher activity than Pt and enhanced formation of CO2 relative to PtRu. Here, Ru@Pt catalysts have been prepared by depositing Pt onto a commercial carbon-supported Ru catalyst. The influence of the amount of Pt deposited has been investigated in H2SO4(aq) at ambient temperature and in a proton exchange membrane cell at 80 °C. Activities for ethanol oxidation were intermediate between those for commercial Pt and PtRu catalysts, providing higher currents than Pt at low potentials, and higher currents than PtRu at high potentials. Faradaic yields of CO2 (38%–48%) were greatly increased relative to the PtRu alloy catalyst (11%). This will optimize the efficiency of ethanol oxidation in PEM electrolysis and fuel cells.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128287436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Large data streams have to be communicated between these processors and memories through interconnection networks. Multistage interconnection network (MIN) is an efficient way to provide these communications at a very reasonable cost. For such large systems MIN employed should be highly reliable and fast to meet the desired specifications of these high speed switch fabrics. In this paper two new architectures of MIN are proposed which are named as fault-tolerant Gamma-Minus (FTGM-1 & FTGM-2) networks. These proposed architectures are multipath MIN with totally disjoint paths and are highly reliable and fault tolerant. The routing algorithm proposed for these structures is simple distance tag routing with non-backtracking which overcomes rerouting overheads and hence improve communication delays. The proposed MIN ensures multiple fault tolerance at each stage including input and output stage with minimal horizontal distance between source node to destination node. For validating the results, a comparison has been presented between existing MINs with these proposed designs. The proposed MINs outperform the existing MIN in terms of reliability, fault tolerance and up to some extent cost as well.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123015122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
