The high sensitivity, selectivity, and low cost, nanosensors have gained enourmous attention in recent years for the detection of active pharmacological compounds and food pollutants. Ni and Ni-containing compounds have a favorable affinity for a number of organic functional groups such as -thio, -hydroxyl, -carboxyl, and -amine. However, its poor conductivity hinders its electrochemical performance. Hence, the procedures for improving the conductivity of metal oxides that are incredibly good studies query to meet the desired level of detection. We devised a straightforward method for concurrently synthesizing silver and nickel oxide nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide using electrochemical deposition method on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The electrodeposited materials were scratched from GCE and characterized for Raman, SEM/EDS, EIS, and XPS. The materials produced after deposition were examined also for Ascorbic Acid (AA) detection in bottled fruit juice and Vitamin C tablets yielded 0.457 μM limits of quantification and 100.61% and 99.40% average recoveries, respectively.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114417707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used PD control and PID control, conventional methods of feedback control, to control the pore width precisely in the simulation. The pore width was shown to decrease slowly in PID control due to the slow feedback of I-control, and PD control was shown to produce stable long pores, although the pore width became larger than the target pore width. The initial hydrogen concentration in the liquid, which was controlled by atmospheric hydrogen pressure, had a significant effect on the pore growth; the higher the hydrogen concentration, the thicker the pore width and vice versa. It was also clarified that the pore width and the elongation length of the pore took various values depending on the combination of PD parameters even if the same target value was set.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132735787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using two key components, CTAB and hydrazine hydrate, leads to the formation of octahedral shapes. A Cu2O octahedral core–shell structure was successfully created by employing a coating technique, and its performance in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) was thoroughly evaluated. Due to its high dispersibility in ammonia solution, Cu2O serves as an excellent representative for other components. Additionally, this chapter provides a detailed account of the production of octahedral nanocages through the ammonia etching method. Notably, the Cu2O nano octahedra demonstrate superior OER performance compared to commercial RuO2, exhibiting a significantly low overpotential of only 370 mV at 10 mA cm−2. These findings bear important implications for designing stable core/shell nanostructures and hollow structures by implementing appropriate chemicals while also deepening our understanding of the formation of octahedral shapes.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132157565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For that, six different cases are studied under galvanostatic and potentiostatic operation. For Galvanostatic operation, it was observed that depending on the operation conditions, the bifurcation point as well as the frequency and amplitude of the oscillations can be modified. Additionally, several spatiotemporal profiles of the local current density were found. For potentiostatic operation, the spatiotemporal profiles are constant with time, however they are affected by the anode overvoltage. Finally, after the bifurcation point, the temporal averaged anode overvoltage and the CO outlet concentration is always lower for galvanostatic control.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129501883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A comprehensive study was conducted, including the synthesis and characterization of silicon dioxide nanoparticles of varying sizes, as well as the preparation and testing of nanofluids with different nanoparticle concentrations. The results show that nanoparticle size has a significant effect on both the viscosity and stability of nanofluids, with smaller nanoparticles leading to higher viscosity and improved stability. Silicon dioxide nanoparticles were dispersed in deionized water at mass fractions of 0.5% and 3% and average particle diameters of 12 nm and 40 nm using an ultrasonic disperser. The rheological properties of the obtained nanofluids at 304 K were studied depending on the mass concentration and linear size of nanoparticles in the liquid. An analysis of the results showed that the viscosity of the nanofluids increased with decreasing linear size of the nanoparticles. These findings have important implications for the development and optimization of nanofluid-based applications in various industries, such as electronics, energy, and biomedical engineering.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"63 1-2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120892992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carbon paper is usually hand cut and a variety of strategies are used to define electrode area. This procedure is tedious, imprecise, and inaccurate, yielding coefficients of variation in peak current output as high as 20%. Imprecision in hand-preparation translates directly to poor reproducibility in electrochemical data leading to challenges in directly comparing data across research groups and research fields. This work introduces an inexpensive and precise method to automatically cut and rapidly wax carbon paper electrodes, circumventing laborious traditional preparation and substantially improving precision in electrochemical data.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127696168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The elemental and morphological properties of all catalysts are verified by HRTEM, XPS, and XRD. From the HRTEM images, it is found that CNT-Pd reduced by sodium borohydride CNT-Pd (SBH) exhibited a narrow size distribution of Pd nanoparticles (PdNPs) with an average size of 3.15 nm. The role of the reducing agents (SBH, HY, and AA) is investigated by applying them as anode catalysts for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) and it is found that the reducing agent remarkably affected the electrochemical activities. CNT-Pd (SBH) catalysts show the superior catalytic activity and durability towards MOR among all catalysts, which may be due to the Pd NPs in CNT-Pd (SBH) having a perfect crystal structure with a narrow size distribution.","PeriodicalId":338397,"journal":{"name":"ECS Advances","volume":"450 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132022697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The thickness of polybithiophene films was varied by the scan rate of applied potentials during polymerization. Obtained hierarchical polythiophene films were characterized by absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra, scanning electron microscopy, laser microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Half-photocell properties of the hierarchical polythiophene thin films were evaluated by a three-electrode electrochemical cell in CH2Cl2 solution of electrolyte and C60 as a sacrificial electron acceptor under irradiation of monochromatic light. The thickness and absorbance of hierarchical polythiophene thin films increased by decreasing of scan rate of applied potentials during the polymerization of polybithiophene. While, maximum peaks of fluorescence intensity and internal quantum yield of cathodic photocurrent were observed at 20 nm thickness of polythiophene film under irradiation from the glass side of the transparent electrode. Almost maximum external quantum efficiencies of cathodic photocurrent were observed from 20 nm to 1.5 μm thicknesses of polythiophene films.
