As they grow and develop, their speaking and language skills become complex increasingly. They learn to understand and use language to express ideas, thoughts, feelings, and to communicate with others. During developing speaking and language at the beginning, children learn skills that are important for literacy development (reading and writing). This stage is known as emergent literacy, which starts from birth and continues through the preschool years. Children take a look and interact with print media such as books or magazines long before they start elementary school. Parents can appreciate their children when they begin to recognizing rhyming words, scribbling on crayons, mentioning a few alphabet letters, or pretending to write. Gradually, children combine what they know about speaking and listening to what they know from the results of interactions with the print media to be ready to learn reading and writing.","PeriodicalId":337757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Early Childhood Education (ICECE 2020)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133350797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the existing literature, the authors argue that ECE institutions still maintain traditional gender views. The authors also assert that in order to overcome gender bias in the curriculum, ECE institutions need to develop two things, namely: gender awareness pedagogy and gender sensitive curriculum. Teachers also need to provide opportunities to children to play all types of games to children, without segregating them into male and female categories. The main results of this literature review highlight the importance of efforts to promote gender equality in ECE institutions in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":337757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Early Childhood Education (ICECE 2020)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114863612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, it can make them more responsible in fulfilling their life needs; furthermore, it can grow their self-confidence. Independence is one of the characters that must be instilled from an early age to children, because it will have an impact until they grow up. The development of children's independence cannot be done instantly; to achieve this requires hard work by parents, especially mothers. In reality there is still negative perception in public regarding working mothers, albeit their ability to educate their children to be independent regardless of their limited time. This study was conducted because of inadequate research related to the positive impact of working mothers on early children's independence. This study is aimed to find out independence applied to children in daily life by mothers working as farm workers. Hopefully the results of this study can provide information about independence of early children nurtured by working mothers; and steps that need to be taken by working mothers to shape their children's independence.","PeriodicalId":337757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Early Childhood Education (ICECE 2020)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132765886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Symbolic violence is an invisible violence that cannot be seen clearly without a critical and in-depth understanding of the person who experienced it (the victim). Symbolic violence often undetectable since it is recognized as something natural and must occurs. Symbolic violence comes about through internalized collective values, which have been assumed as the truth, proper, reasonable and are justified as a culture. Using Bourdieu’s theory of symbolic violence, this paper analyses the internalized collective values that led to symbolic violence in early childhood education settings.","PeriodicalId":337757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Early Childhood Education (ICECE 2020)","volume":"173 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115328716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
