In some cases, the flare-ups can appear after the finishing of the root canal treatment, due to the penetration or development of the microorganisms into the root canal. The pain felt by the patient depends on the extent of the periradicular tissue injury, its severity and intensity of the inflammatory immune response. The article discusses the microbial irritation of apical periodontal tissue caused by insufficient instrumentation and filling of the root canals, factors that lead to failure of the outcome of root canals treatment.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42447155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: The lengths of 15 extracted human teeth were measured with six ALs (Dentaport Root ZX, Dual Pex Micro Mega, Root ZX mini, Elements Diagnostic, Woodpex III, and E-connect S) and with digital radiographs (RVG). Electronic measurements were compared with each other and with radiographic measurements under the same experimental conditions. Results: Repeated measures ANOVA showed a significant difference between the radiographic and the electronic method. The Root ZX achieved the best accuracy and precision in determining the location of the apical foramen compared to other ALs. Conclusions: ALs are the most reliable method and superior to radiologic methods to determine the WL. Further studies should be performed to assess the differences between different types of ALs.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48551859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential additional clinical benefit of a commercial nano colloidal silver-based local antiseptic used as irrigation solution after subgingival mechanical instrumentation. Material and methods. Periodontitis patients were treated following the current guidelines. Two randomly assigned hemiarches of each patient received subgingival mechanical instrumentation plus irrigations with the commercial product (experimental group); the other two hemiarches received mechanical instrumentation plus saline irrigations (control group). A clinical periodontal examination at baseline moment and after 3 months was performed. The parameters considered for analysis were oral hygiene index (IHI), bleeding on probing score (BoP), periodontal pocket probing depth (PD), gingival recession (GR) and clinical attachment level (CAL). 72 sites were included in the analysis, the site with the highest PD/quadrant for each patient. Data were analyzed using GraphPad Prism version 8.0.1 (GraphPad Software Inc., La Jolla, CA, USA). p<0.05 was set as statistical significance level. Outcomes. Eighteen periodontitis patients were treated. All clinical parameters improved at re-evaluation, compared to baseline, both in experimental and control group. The differences were statistically significant in terms of IHI, BoP and PD reduction. At re-evaluation, there were no statistically significant differences between periodontal parameters registered in the experimental and control sites. Conclusions. The present study failed to prove an adjunctive clinical benefit of the antiseptic product in the nonsurgical treatment of periodontitis. These results support the gold standard role of subgingival mechanical instrumentation in the periodontitis’ therapeutic protocol.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42042143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are increasingly common situations where diagnosis can only be determined radiologically. It is the patient's right to be informed about his or her state of health and at the same time we add a doctor's duty. In our material, we tried to highlight the impact on the patient the conducting and communicating the outcome of radiological investigations, to prove that there is fear of irradiation and to understand how the radiological image that demonstrates a poor orodental health entails the need for rehabilitation. This statistical study was performed on a total of 223 subjects (128 female subjects and 95 male subjects). The subjects of the study were asked questionnaires whose questions highlight the confirmation or rejection of the proposed objectives. The results obtained will show to what extent the patients have quantified the requirements of the questionnaires. Obtaining responses with a slightly surprising character certifies the rigor of our research.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46450279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of the study was to investigate the clinical performance of two different resin-based materials 6 months after their placement in dental non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL). This study also aimed to evaluate the effects of the materials on periodontal tissues in terms of clinical changes of several periodontal parameters. Material and methods. NCCLs characteristics (localization, morphology, dimensions) were preoperatively recorded. The clinical behavior of the restorations based on the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria and periodontal parameters (plaque index, bleeding index, probing depth, and attachment loss) were assessed at baseline and after 1, 3 and 6 months. Results. No significant modifications were recorded for the modified USPHS criteria 6 months after the placement of NCCL restorations excepting postoperative hypersensitivity which was associated with 4 restorations after 6 months. Significant improvements of plaque and bleeding indices were recorded, while no significant modifications were noted for the other periodontal parameters. Conclusions. Considering the clinical success related to the good clinical behavior and the positive effect of the restorations on the periodontal status, the experimental conventional composites and giomers could be considered as a good therapeutic option for the restoration of NCCLs.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43444958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this in vitro study was to observe through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) the surface morphology of root samples treated with different mechanical instrumentation methods and the additional application of a nano-colloidal silver-based antiseptic solution. Material and methods. Root samples were prepared from extracted molars and divided in four groups: group 1 of samples was instrumented with Gracey curette (7/8), group 2 of samples was instrumented with ultrasonic tip 1S, group 3 of samples was instrumented with ultrasonic tips 1S plus H4R/L, group 4 of samples was treated with ultrasonic tips 1S plus H4R/L and application of the silver-based antiseptic solution. All samples were then subjected to SEM examination. Outcomes. Group 1 of samples presented a smoother surface compared to the samples in the other groups. Group 2, 3 and 4 displayed superficial grooves parallel to the direction of action of the ultrasonic tip. In group 3 and 4, root planning with tip H4R/L did not ameliorate the smoothness of the surface. The smear layer was present, regardless the instrumentation method. In group 4, the additional application of the antiseptic solution did not influence the surface morphology or the amount of smear layer. Conclusions. Gracey curettes created a smoother radicular surface compared to ultrasonic tips. Smear layer was obvious on the radicular surfaces, no matter the instrumentation method. The application of the silver-based antiseptic solution had no additional impact on surface morphology.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48969443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These joint changes not detected in time and not included in the treatment plan may worsen while wearing fixed appliances, as orthodontic treatment changes the cranio-mandibular position and causes cranio-mandibular reshaping. The articulator is an instrument that reproduces more or less all mandible movements. TMJ characteristics of skeletal dento-maxillary anomalies, especially class II sagittal pattern mainly reflected in condylar position rather than morphology. TMJ of different vertical patterns differed more in joint spaces, position of condyle and glenoid fossa than in morphologic measurements. Vertical position of glenoid fossa and proportion of posterior condyle increased gradually from hypodivergent to hyperdivergent. Highest glenoid fossa position, maximum ratio of posterior positioned condyle, smallest joint spaces, shallowest glenoid fossa depth, and narrowest condylar long axis diameter were found in skeletal class. The patients with high angle have considerable joint instable factors, and we should especially pay attention when orthodontic treatment is carried out on them. The condyle-fossa position and morphology differ with various vertical facial patterns in individuals with skeletal Class II mandibular retrognathism. These differences could be considered during temporo-mandibular diagnosis and orthodontic treatment","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43764800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The root word for the word doctor derives from Latin \"docere\", which means \"to teach\". The doctor contributes to educating patients about a number of medical conditions (the patient is experiencing a number of diseases). In essence, the doctor has the role as a teacher. Doctor-patient interaction works on relational models. The physician-trainer paradigm is required to be introduced to improve patient status. The physician-trainer model is a participatory model that results in achieving the patient's well-being and improving his/her health; the physician uses his or her capacity as a trainer, that is, he has the ability to form and instill adequate conduct for each patient. In this paper, besides highlighting the appetence for the relationship between the trainer and the patient, we tried to quantify the patient's acceptance of the treatment with/without continuous monitoring of the disease (chronic diseases), the degree of reasonableness in accepting the therapeutic behavior, and lastly how the individual feels the change of his status in the patient. The study was conducted on a total of 217 subjects (125 female subjects and 92 male subjects). The applied questionnaire contained 18 questions, structured to help us confirm or not the study's objectives. The results obtained will show us the level of appetite for the trainer-patient relationship.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45380812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HA have important physiological and biological properties. HA maintains the tissue volume, presents bacteriostatic, anti-inflammatory, osteoinductive, and angiogenetic properties, as well as stimulates many cell functions having a role in wound healing. HA has been used as an adjunctive in the treatment of gingivitis, periodontitis, gingival recessions, or in the reconstruction of papilla deficiencies. In periodontitis patients, the association of HA with subgingival mechanical instrumentation reduces local inflammation and its use with access flap results in larger attachment level gain of infrabony defects compared to control groups non treated with HA. HA application in conjunction with advanced flaps may improve gingival recession levels. HA injection for papillary deficiency seems to be a viable treatment option that improves clinical volume, esthetic outcomes and is associated with minimal pain.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43459414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
