To present the clinical implications evolution of educational shortcomings in young adults who are longterm consumers of acidified beverages. cases description. The cases of three long term acidified bevarages cosumer pacients were reported. The patients were asked about general condition, eating habits and oral hygiene used methods, were examined and illustrative photos were taken. Case 1 is of a 18 year old male (5 years consumer) presenting typical erosions for acidified beverage consumers on the vestibular surface of the teeths. Case 2 is of a 24 year old male (10 years consumer) presentig a particular pattern of cavity grafted on pre-existing erosion zones. Case 3 is of a 25 year old female (15 years consumer) presentig severe damage to the whole dento-maxilar apparatus. results. The common elements of the three cases point towards the lack of instruction in maintaining an optimal oral health level, the prolonged daily consumption of carbonated beverages in appreciable amounts and poor oral hygiene. Prolonged consumption of carbonated beverages and poor oral hygiene cause irreversible dental damage from localized erosions of several teeth to caries grafting on eroded surfaces and finally to the massive coronary destruction involving damage to the whole dento-maxilar apparatus. Discussion. Introducing a national educational program would lead to patients becoming aware of the need for a proactive, sanogenic attitude as well as to an improvement in the level of oral health with important benefits for the pacient as well as for the healthcare system.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44110646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the present study is to compare the adhesive capacity of the microhybrid and nanohybrid diacrylic composite resins to enamel, dentin and cement. Materials and method. Standardized cavities were made at the cervical level on the vestibular surfaces of 8 maxillary third molars without caries or fractures. The cavities were filled with microhybrid (Filtek Z250 – 3M ESPE), respectively nanohybrid composites (Filtek Z550 – 3M ESPE), half of the teeth also receiving an intermediate layer of flowable composite (Gradia Direct LoFlo – GC). All of them were subjected to a thermocycling process (300 cycles in water of 5°C/55°C). After the isolation of the teeth with nail polish, they were introduced into 1% methylene blue for 24 hours. Subsequently, they were embedded in an epoxy resin (EpoThinTM 2 – Buehler), polished and sectioned mesio-distally with Beta Grinder/Polisher-Buehler. Sections were selected where the greatest degree of methylene blue penetration was detected to be analyzed by optical polarized light microscopy (Axio Imager A1m – Zeiss). Results. All teeth showed microinfiltration of the cement, while only half showed it also in enamel. There are no microinfiltration differences between microand nanohybrid composite resins. The intermediate layer of flowable composite does not influence microinfiltration.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41493624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The clinic of generalized periodontitis is caused by a variety of manifestations of the disease in the complex anatomical and physiological complex of periodontal tissues and the general condition of the organism. Therefore, in the treatment of generalized periodontitis, it is necessary to take into account the individual features of the general and periodontal status of the patient. Aim of the study. Improving the effectiveness of treatment of patients with generalized periodontitis of acute course with a predominance of the parasympathetic nervous system. Materials and methods. A comprehensive examination of the condition of periodontal tissues of 60 patients and treatment using the proposed scheme of drug therapy. The comparison group performed similarly to the patients in the main treatment group, but without drug premedication. results. It was found that the inclusion of the proposed premedication in the complex therapy of patients with generalized periodontitis exacerbated course could effectively affect the inflammatory process in the tissues of the periodontium. This confirms a decrease in PMA index, an increase in the time of hematoma formation during a vacuum test by Kulazhenko, and an improvement in the level of oral hygiene. conclusions. The proposed method of treatment allows to eliminate the manifestations of inflammation and to achieve stabilization of the dystrophic-inflammatory process in the periodontium in a shorter period of treatment. In the near future, an earlier and pronounced normalization of clinical and laboratory parameters characterizing the dystrophic-inflammatory process in the periodontium is noted.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45366874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of our study was to evaluate salivary cortisol levels and the scores of nicotinic social dependence, as markers of stress, in a group of patients with moderate and profound chronic periodontitis but systemically healthy. Material and method. Our study, of pretreatment cross-sectional design, included 28 adult patients with moderate and severe chronic marginal periodontitis and no systemic diseases. They were recruited from a particular clinic in Bucharest. The questionnaire used gathered questions from the Kano test to assess nicotine dependence. The salivary cortisol was determined using a DSNOV20 kit (NovaTec Immundiagnostica GmbH). Results and discussions. The average Kano total score was 13.28 (+ 4.38; range 4-23). The smoker group recorded an average of 16.2 (range 11-23). There were no statistically significant differences between the scores of the three groups. From the 28 patients who completed the questionnaires, 22 were evaluated for salivary cortisol levels. Of these, 3 were smokers, 6 were former smokers and 13 were non-smokers. The mean salivary cortisol level was 6.65 ng/ml (+ 1.47; range 4.12-9.38). The mean salivary cortisol level was higher in smokers compared to non-smokers and ex-smokers (p> 0.05). Conclusions. Stress, expressed by the average level of salivary cortisol, was higher among smokers compared to the other groups, the highest variability being registered among ex-smokers. In patients with moderate and severe chronic marginal periodontitis, there was a positive, albeit insignificant, association between salivary cortisol levels and nicotinic psychological dependence.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42757852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A soft tissue laser and a hard tissue laser, at different wave length, were used in order to treat all the dental problems of a 21 year old patient, such us: endodontic treatment, apical cyst treatment without a surgical procedure, gingivectomy. Due to their already well-known advantages (increased patients’ acceptance of the treatment plan; increased comfort for the patient – less pain, no post-op edema, time and costs efficiency, due to less and shorter clinical appointments). The treatment was completed by a Maryland bridge and no prep veneers on 1.1-1.4. Due to these advantages and considering the outgoing development of technology, this case demonstrates that the use of various types of lasers in dentistry is undoubtfully necessary and oblige the dentists to become more familiar with procedures.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48714031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
