Its later, over two thousand years history is characterized by the influence of such ethno-cultural groups as the Greeks, the Brutti, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Saracens and the Normans. Hence, Calabria has become an infinite source of fascination for all who seek the remains of ancient times in Italy. The purpose of my article is to present the history of Scolacium – one of the ancient towns in the Italian province of Calabria basing, above all, on selected literary evidence on the issue. My studies concentrate mainly on pointing out the numerous references and allusions to its name and on the analysis of longer or shorter depictions of the town found in various Greek and Roman literary works and their application in a chronological reconstruction of the town’s past events as an example of historical processes observed on the territory of Magna Graecia.","PeriodicalId":33406,"journal":{"name":"Collectanea Philologica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67632443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Odysei, przywolany poźniej i poddany modyfikacji przez Eurypidesa w dramacie satyrowym Cyklop oraz liryczno-erotyczny spopularyzowany przez Teokryta w XI sielance, Skargi Cyklopa. Wersje Teokryta rozbudowal Owidiusz w XIII ks. Metamorfoz. Pomostem miedzy obydwoma wariantami mitycznymi jest tzw. dytyramb Filoksenosa z Kytery. Mit Polifema, glownie w postaci, jaką nadal mu Owidiusz, przewija sie przez hiszpanski wiek XVI az do początku kolejnego stulecia, znajdując wielu naśladowcow i tlumaczy. Pod koniec XVI wieku siega do niego rowniez Lope de Vega w powieści pasterskiej La Arcadia (1598), nadając mu forme tradycyjnej hiszpanskiej strofy romance. Mit stanowi odbicie historii bedącej przedmiotem narracji, wzbogacając powieśc o elementy perspektywy autobiograficznej. W Fabula de Polifemo (1612) Luisa de Gongory mit ulega calkowitej transformacji. W jego interpretacji przewazają barokowe kontrasty i hiperbola. Struktura dziela oparta jest na zbiezności przeciwienstw: potworności Polifema i piekna Galatei. Mit staje sie tez okazją do transpozycji koncepcji piekna, wywodzącej sie od petrarkizmu: obserwowac mozna dominante planu metaforycznego, zastepującego elementy rzeczywistości.","PeriodicalId":33406,"journal":{"name":"Collectanea Philologica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67632200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pomysl konkursu narodzil sie na zajeciach poświeconych lekturze autorow greckich, na ktorych studenci I i II roku studiow magisterskich tlumaczyli, pod moim kierunkiem, ten wlaśnie tekst Platona. W trakcie porownywania przez studentow tekstu oryginalnego z istniejącymi polskimi przekladami powstal wśrod nich projekt, aby podjąc probe samodzielnego zmierzenia sie z literackim tlumaczeniem tego pieknego, ale nielatwego do oddania fragmentu Platonskiej prozy. Zadania tego podjelo sie ostatecznie siedem osob, a jego rezultaty byly na tyle interesujące i warte uwagi, ze podsunelam studentom i pracownikom KFK myśl przeprowadzenia konkursu, czyli ocenienia przekladow przez szerszą grupe osob, na co autorzy tlumaczen wyrazili zgode. Ostatecznie konkursowe jury obradowalo w trzech niezaleznych zespolach: pracownikow, studentow studiow magisterskich i studentow studiow licencjackich. Kazdy z czlonkow jury mogl przyznac, odpowiednio, trzy, dwa lub jeden punkt trzem pracom uznanym przez siebie za najlepsze. Ocena byla przeprowadzana w sposob calkowicie anonimowy, prace zostaly zakodowane. Choc uklad miejsc laureatow w ocenie poszczegolnych grup jury nieco sie roznil, po podliczeniu punktow zdecydowanymi zwyciezczyniami konkursu okazaly sie dwie studentki II roku studiow magisterskich: pani Kamila Osinska (33 punkty, miejsce I, I i II – w ostatecznej klasyfikacji miejsce I) i pani Magdalena Cieślikowska-Ryczko (32 punkty, miejsce I, I i III – w ostatecznej klasyfikacji miejsce II). W ocenie jury oba przeklady, ktore dzieli roznica tylko jednego punktu, zaslugują na publikacje – zwlaszcza wobec wzrastającego zainteresowania polskich tlumaczy „arcydialogiem” Platona.","PeriodicalId":33406,"journal":{"name":"Collectanea Philologica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67632967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I 26 Skutsch). Since, for the purposes of literary research, significant is only the first triad of this historic poem, the research was limited to Book I of the work. The realism of portrayed events is a dominant feature of the world depicted in the analyzed work and, in an essential manner, it influenced Roman religious ideals. The prayer of Aeneas to Tiber- inus – the god of the Tiber River, is therefore reviewed in a context of mythological topics taken from Homeric tradition. This sacral utterance is spoken in accordance to certain stylistic and ritual patterns that were in use in Roman poetry.","PeriodicalId":33406,"journal":{"name":"Collectanea Philologica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67632257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plutarch, drawing on Platonic tradition, accepts and praises eros paidikos, but he condemns homosexual intercourse as an act of hybris. On the other hand, Plutarch rejects traditional Greek prejudices against women and glorifies marriage as the highest form of human relationship: he argues that conjugal love contains both the lifelong friendship and sexual relations which are a source of mutual kindness, respect and affection. In Lucian’s work the defender of pederasty, portraying it as a spiritual relationship and a mark of advanced cultural evolution, wins the debate; but in the last part of dialogue moral demands of sexual restraint in pederasty are mocked, and sexual pleasure is called “a mediator of friendship”.","PeriodicalId":33406,"journal":{"name":"Collectanea Philologica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67632529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This goddess, in gratitude for the hospitality received from the parents of Triptolemos during the difficult quest for her missing daughter, Persephone, gave the young man an unusual chariot in order to help him reveal the mystery of agriculture to people and popularise this skill among them. That special moment was commemorated on vases produced in the red-figure technique in the fifth century BC and later artists repeatedly undertook this theme. However, an interesting difference in the way Triptolemos’s chariot is depicted appears on the subsequent art works. On ancient vases, Triptolemos is seated on a chariot with winged wheels, whereas two snakes are slithering beside. The following works of art depict a chariot dragged by winged dragons. The analysis of selected texts of ancient authors shows that the growing tendency to portray the chariot of Triptolemos with dragons is not justified by literary sources and is dictated by the imagination of the artist.","PeriodicalId":33406,"journal":{"name":"Collectanea Philologica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67632576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
