That an influence of the channel uncertainty is captured serves to significantly differentiate the model from other two-state Markov models, especially from the Gilbert-Elliott model. We use several methods to calculate the information capacity of the TV-BSC. Furthermore, we find accurate approximations for the TV-BSC information capacity, providing better inside into the capacity analysis of general time varying communications channels. Finally, we present the generalization on the TV-BSC model and the concept of the communication channel with time varying memory to further confirm the uniqueness of the model","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. According to application-oriented quality of service (QoS), two alternative rate control schemes for multiple DTV programs transmission are proposed collaborating with MPEG-2 system strategy and IP-base network multiplexing mechanism. As to the network bandwidth utilization, a flexible RTF-based encapsulation scheme for VBR transport stream (TS) transmission is realized to ensure the time synchronization requirement for MPEG-2 standard. As to the statistical multiplexing gain, moreover, a parallel VBR transcoding/encoding rate control algorithm for CBR TS transmission could achieve a consistent picture quality for multiple DTV programs under a constrained network bandwidth. For adapting the variable access network bandwidth, the system main control module can flexibly schedule the available rate control scheme for multiple slave service multiplexers","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. Unlike the SPIHT coder which encodes an entire image frame, the new algorithm encodes the subdivided image regions (16times16 blocks) differentially based on an optimization bit allocation strategy. Instead of applying DWT to the whole image, it is applied separately on each partitioned block of the original image and, depending on the statistics of each image region, the number of wavelet coefficients to be retained is determined. Our experiments show that the proposed block-based SPIHT coder (BSC) performs better than SPIHT in terms of PSNR (objective criteria) & visual perception quality (subjective criteria)","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. Moreover, the system design and test are done by the software-defined radio (SDR) approach which is based only on the PC soundcard and Matlabreg software for a minimum-cost implementation of the NDA-DQAM system. In so doing, first, the speech signal is converted into bit stream by the adaptive delta modulation. Then using two differential angles mapped by Gray-coded dibits, a passband 16-DQAM waveform can be generated. It is shown that the 16-DQAM system incurs only about 0.5-dB performance degradation as compared to the coherent 16-QAM system. With the SDR approach, all the system parameters and TX/RX algorithms are embodied in high-level Matlab programs. A free-running T/2-spaced receiver structure is especially used with interpolation-based timing recovery and Costas carrier synchronization. Finally, experimental results are included to show how real-time speech transmission can be readily achieved. A significant challenge in IVC networks would be the implementation of suitable routing protocols so as to ensure successful data packet delivery and lower packet delivery delay. IVC networks are subject to several limitations such as fragmentation of the network due to low deployment of ITS in-vehicle systems and low vehicle density. The rapidly changing topology would cause links between vehicles to be less reliable than those in traditional mobile ad hoc networks. In CDMA systems, the multiple access interference limits the number of active users and their transmission rates, which in turn limit the system throughput. The resource has low utilization in most time. The error-control coding scheme can correct some transmission errors at the cost of low coding efficiency. Coding scheme tolerates the multiple access interference even when more users are active. With a proper combination of coding scheme and codes allocation, it is possible to admit more users and to achieve higher system throughput. A traffic scheduling algorithm based on this joint design scheme is proposed for constant rate services in OVSF-CDMA systems. In simulation we compare the system throughput of our joint design algorithm with those of two conventional algorithms, the algorithm adapting the codes allocation only and the algorithm adapting the coding scheme only. It shows the joint design algorithm achieves the highest system throughput","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004.
