A passive picocell for high capacity and short range wireless networks has been investigated based on an unbiased EAM that acts as a passive transceiver at the remote site of the radio-over-fiber (ROF) link. To reduce the effect of error extension introduced by dc-free decoding and to allow for soft decoding of error-control codes, dc-free error-control block codes are decoded at the receiver by applying error-control decoding techniques prior to dc-free decoding. In this paper, we show that in addition to ensuring both dc-free and error-control properties in the encoded symbol sequence, it is possible to use this coding structure to enforce runlength constraints. We also model the dc-constrained channel with a simple RC high-pass filter, and demonstrate that on this channel with additive white Gaussian noise, dc-free error-control block codes result in superior bit error rate performance, particularly when source data logic values are not equiprobable","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. Using this approach, a high level of QoS for both handoff calls and new calls, and better utilization of wireless network resources has been achieved. The simultaneous satisfaction of these two actually conflicting interests is due to two key features. First, it is due to the subscriber profile predicted using subscriber data. This a priori information about possible handoffs is provided by the mobile terminal and subsequently used for reservation requests. This information is based on the cell transition probabilities calculated by the mobile itself using collected information during past operations. Second, it is due to a two-way approach implemented in the radio resource reservation and new call admission processes. The two-way approach controls both the amount of reservation and the new call admission process in a highly dynamic way, depending on the subscriber mobility and network traffic conditions. Simulation and analytical results are presented and they indicate that proposed approach is superior to techniques previously reported","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. The interleaved polling with adaptive cycle time (IPACT) is a remarkable medium access control (MAC) protocol for EPON. There are two aspects within IPACT. One is inter-optical network unit (ONU) scheduling. The other is intra-ONU scheduling. In this paper, we propose a systematic adaptive scheduling scheme to enhance the functions of IPACT on both the inter-ONU scheduling and the intra-ONU scheduling in order to achieve efficient bandwidth utilization of the EPON under unbalanced traffic and to provide class-of-service (COS) or differentiated services within an ONU. The simulation results show that our proposed scheduling scheme can improve the performance of the EPON system under unbalanced traffic loads and provide fair bandwidth allocation of the uplink to different types of traffic","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. When the approximate chip synchronization is held in the whole system, the multiple-access interference (MAI) of THSS-UWB systems employing the proposed ZCZ TH sequences is eliminated, and such THSS-UWB systems are more tolerant to the multipath problem. In this paper, we provide an integrated design of multipath routing in MPLS networks. In addition, we take into account the quality of service (QoS) in carrying delay-sensitive traffic and failure survivability in the design. Path protection or restoration policies enables the network to accommodate link failures and avoid traffic loss. We evaluate the performance of the proposed schemes in terms of call blocking probability, network resource utilization and load balancing factor. The results demonstrate that the proposed integrated design framework can provide effective network failure survivability, and also achieve better load balancing and/or higher network resource utilization","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. The former stage adopts polarization controller and fixed time-delayed line of polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF). The second stage consists of a polarization rotator and a tunable differential group delay (DGD) line that is based on magneto optical crystal. The second stage is used to compensate remnant first-order PMD. The PMD monitoring technique adopted degree of polarization (DOP) as error signal. A novel practical adaptive optimization algorithm was introduced in dynamic adaptive PMD compensation. Some experimental results show that large PMD is compensated by this compensator in a 40 Gbits/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ) OTDM transmission systems. A significant improvement of system performance can be achieved in the eye pattern of a received signal. Most first-order compensating ability of the compensator is 35 ps. Second-order compensating ability of the compensator is 200 ps2 . The optimum compensating time is within several milliseconds","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004.
