In this paper, a novel approach to alleviate the PAPR problem of OFDM is presented. A generalized OFDM (GOFDM) with frequency-domain equalization (FDE) is proposed. Various FDE techniques based on zero forcing (ZF), maximum ratio combining (MRC) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) are considered. The bit error rate (BER) performance of GOFDM in a frequency-selective fading channel is evaluated by computer simulation and compared with those of conventional OFDM and single-carrier (SC) transmission","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. Here, using a general analytical method to estimate the nonlinear distortion in SCM-WDM lightwave systems, new results for intermodulation products (IMPs) are presented. This method takes into account both chromatic dispersion and Kerr effect in the fiber and leads to simple closed-form expressions. It provides us an efficient tool to predict the nonlinear intermodulation evolution in SCM lightwave system over fiber accurately. The results show the significance of 2nd and 3rd order IMPs for SCM-WDM and SCM radio-over-fiber systems, respectively. Our study shows that in standard single mode fiber (SSMF), the rapid increase of 3rd order IMPs sets an upper limit to the optical power that one can use in an SCM RoF system","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. The consideration of performance and computational complexity of different MIMO system configurations leads to various applications. In this paper, the performance of V-BLAST scheme for coded MC-CDMA system and performance comparison of different MIMO MC-CDMA system configurations such as V-BLAST scheme and punctured STBC scheme have been investigated. The results show that punctured STBC scheme is better than V-BLAST scheme at the same transmitted data rate (same bandwidth efficiency) in terms-of performance and complexity. This is because punctured STBC scheme achieves higher diversity gain without inter-stream interference compared to V-BLAST scheme which has severe inter-stream interference and lower diversity gain. However, the punctured STBC scheme can only work with lower rate channel coding (for puncturing) and STBC coding rate for complex data is less than one for antennas more than two. Hence, it is suitable for inexpensive real-time applications with moderate data rate","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004. In this paper, we investigate the design criteria to achieve good tradeoffs between performance and complexity for joint multiuser detection and group decoding (MD-GD) [(G. Corrall-Briones et al., 2001), (G. Corrall-Briones and M. Hueda, 2003)]. Two approaches are considered to improve the performance: reduced state algorithms and generalized Viterbi (GV) algorithms. In channels where the main perturbation is multiple-access interference, we show that performance can be further improved increasing the number of states of the channel rather than exploiting the coding information of more users. However, if error propagation is mitigated, additional coding information significantly improves performance. In this paper, considering the inefficiency of the current CAS, a modified key distribution algorithm is put forward, in which the hierarchical access control technology is used to distribute the authorization keys of channels while the Chinese remainder theorem is adopted to distribute the group keys to the subscribers. The proposed algorithm is secure enough as well as greatly reducing the forward security problem. Moreover, the algorithm is flexible in dynamic management of subscriber. Most importantly, the algorithm is more efficient than the current CAS for fewer messages being transferred during key rekeying and system initializing, which greatly saves the bandwidth of the channel","PeriodicalId":333629,"journal":{"name":"The Ninth International Conference onCommunications Systems, 2004.
