One of the methods for achieving key challenges is virtual simulation test in early development phase. The methodology of creating a model-driven distributed system with communication database as well as automatically generating models from specifications is proposed. In order to detect faults of functions and inconsistency of communication signals between specifications and vehicle network, the manual and automated test methods which can verify a model-driven distributed system is represented. This was applied successfully in the production project. The usefulness of the developed methodology and the tool is well ensured through the discovery of defects.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"267 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116117682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we introduce a novel RF-based vehicle motion detection and speed estimation system (ReVISE). Our system leverages the fact that the presence of objects in an RF environment affects the received signal strength and hence, can be used to detect and identify different characteristics of the objects in an area of interest. Our long-term vision for ReVISE is to leverage common wireless networks, such as WiFi or cellular, to detect the density of traffic and estimate the car speed based on the mobile devices carried by users. This gives us an edge over the current techniques for traffic estimation as we do not require any specialized hardware and the cellular signal strength information is available from all cell phones, providing large-scale ubiquitous traffic estimation. We present the design and analysis of ReVISE including its vehicle detection and speed estimation modules. The detection module can differentiate between an empty street, stationary cars, and moving cars based on a multi-class SVM approach that uses features from the RF signal strength. We also present two novel speed estimation techniques based on statistical and curve fitting approaches. Evaluation of ReVISE in a real testbed shows that the proposed techniques can detect vehicle motion with an accuracy of 100% and estimate the vehicle speed with an accuracy of 90% in typical streets. This highlights the feasibility and promise of using RF for vehicle detection and speed estimation.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"332 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115966292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We adopt the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) as the physical layer modulation technique. Assuming that the BS has all the channel state information (CSI), an energy-efficiency optimization problem through joint subcarrier assignment, bit and power allocation is formulated. Due to the computational complexity restriction, a suboptimal solution based on decomposition is presented to solve the problem with low complexity. Considering the fairness constraint, a joint resource allocation algorithm is further proposed, which is proved to achieve a considerable improvement in terms of energy-saving and simultaneously decreases rate outage probability by simulation results.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116633815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) also supports the RO to solve the triangle routing problem. Basic PMIPv6 does not support the RO. Thus, many schemes have been proposed to support RO in PMIPv6. However, these schemes do not consider the out-of-sequence problem, in which packets arrive out of order, which may happen between the existing path and the newly established RO path. This paper proposes a scheme to solve the out-of-sequence problem more precisely and with low cost. Our proposed scheme solves the problem by using the packet sequence number and the time when the problem occurs. In this paper, we compare PMIPv6 supported by the RO and the Out-of-sequence Time Period (OTP) scheme with our proposed scheme via simulation. Evaluation of the performance reveals PMIPv6 supported by the RO had 66 of out-of-sequence packets, and the OTP scheme has 30. However, our proposed scheme does not incur out-of sequence packets. Our proposed scheme guarantees reliable packet transmission by preventing the problem.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121668167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is crucial to minimize the input bit-width while maintaining the error-correcting performance. Several quantization schemes have been presented to properly decide the input resolution of turbo decoding, but they all assume a fixed bit-width irrespective of the SNR. This paper proposes a new method to adaptively change the quantization bit-width with respect to the SNR. In addition, this paper suggests a novel method to estimate the frame-error rate (FER) performance of a turbo decoder dealing with quantized channel outputs. As a result, the whole SNR range is divided into a number of regions each of which can be processed with a certain quantization bit-width.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121823537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is based on conventional clipping and filtering methods, and adaptively shapes distortion noise power to improve reception quality of secondary users with transmission power control. In this paper, optimal clipping levels to control in-band distortion noise are investigated, and then the spectrum property and BER performance with the clipping levels are evaluated. The results confirm that the proposed method can control the distortion power effectively in shared bands and realize secondary systems with less degradation of reception quality when sharing spectrum with transmission power control.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123743383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike previous studies assuming that accurate channel information is available for relaying and link adaptation, the novelty of our approach is to use the expected packet transmission time (ETT) and RTS/CTS exchange to estimate the quality and level of contention for the current channel. By taking into account the quality of the direct channel from source to destination and the relay channel between relay and destination, CARLA enables both source and relay terminals to adjust their transmission rates so that not only the reliability of the transmission but also the bandwidth efficiency can be improved, hence fully utilizing the diversity gain. CARLA is a simple, distributed and rate-per-link adaptation protocol requiring no modification on 802.11 PHY and MAC. Simulation results show that CARLA can achieve significant performance improvement in terms of end-to-end throughput and energy efficiency for different network conditions.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125045193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current researches on this topic concentrate mainly on the two-tier networks. In this paper, we investigates the handover decision scheme for a more complex network: three-tier macrocell/relay/femtocell network. The unique characteristics of the inter-tier handover in three-tier networks are analyzed in this paper and an effective handover algorithm is proposed to reduce the frequent and unnecessary handovers based on the ideas of dwell probability and handover priority. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm significantly reduces the number of handovers while maintaining the call dropping rate at the same level.","PeriodicalId":333610,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122674231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One method for HARQ feedback with multiple ACK/NACK bits is channel selection, wherein ACK/NACK information is encoded by the joint selection of a channel (transmit sequence) and a QPSK symbol. We give a signal design for mapping ACK/NACK information to the channels and modulation symbols, in order to minimize and equalize the ACK-to-NACK and NACK-to-ACK error probabilities.
