{"title":"[Compressive stress in three types of finishing lines with lithium disilicate crowns in permanent teeth: finite element analysis].","authors":"Joshua Yanapa Márquez, Martín Andrés Chávez-Méndez","doi":"10.21142/2523-2754-1201-2024-182","DOIUrl":"10.21142/2523-2754-1201-2024-182","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>In oral rehabilitation, the use of ceramic restorations is widely accepted due to its aesthetic capacity to mimic the naturalness of the dental tissue, provide longevity of the material, and present a greater marginal fit compared to crowns with a metal structure. Termination lines are biological preparations whose function is to minimize the cervical opening of the marginal seal. Consequently, analyzing the behavior of restorative materials under compressive forces decreases the risk of fracture and increases the success of the treatment.</p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>To compare the compressive stresses of lithium disilicate crowns with three different finishing lines.</p><p><strong>Methodology: </strong>In silico study of the simulation of a dental preparation on a lower right first molar with chamfer (0.6 mm), shoulder (0.5 mm) and deep chamfer (0.5 mm) finish lines. {"title":"Criteria for choosing prosthetic biomaterials according to their physicochemical properties for anterior and posterior sectors. a comprehensive review.","authors":"América Lucero Guillén-Martínez, Mario Alberto Alarcón-Sánchez","doi":"10.21142/2523-2754-1201-2024-188","DOIUrl":"10.21142/2523-2754-1201-2024-188","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>To describe the existing knowledge about metal-free prosthetic biomaterials according to their physicochemical properties and based on this, define criteria for their placement in both the anterior and posterior sectors.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>A digital search was carried out in the databases: PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar of the literature published in the English language without time restrictions and included original articles such as case reports, retrospective and prospective studies, narrative, comprehensive, systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Meanwhile, short communications, editorials and articles in a language other than English were excluded.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>40 articles were evaluated, published between 2000 and 2023. The main characteristics and physicochemical properties of ceramic biomaterials such as zirconia, feldspathic based ceramics, lithium disilicate and alumina, among others, were analyzed and summarized. {"title":"Influence of obesity on subgingival microbiota composition in subjects with different periodontal status: a systematic review.","authors":"Mario Alberto Alarcón-Sánchez","doi":"10.21142/2523-2754-1201-2024-187","DOIUrl":"10.21142/2523-2754-1201-2024-187","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>This systematic review aimed to investigate the changes in the composition of the subgingival microbiota among subjects with normo-weight, overweight and obesity, in conditions of periodontal health and disease.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>The protocol for this study was designed following PRISMA guidelines. Records were identified using different search engines (PubMed/MedLine, Scopus and Web of Science). Observational studies, in human subjects diagnosed with obesity (BMI >30kg/m<sup>2</sup>) and periodontal disease (gingivitis and periodontitis), on the analysis of subgingival microbiota were selected. Eight articles were included.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The subgingival microbiota of 1,229 subjects (n=894 exposure group and n=335 control group) was analyzed. Periodontal pathogens were the most common bacteria detected in subjects with obesity and periodontitis (<i>Porphyromonas gingivalis</i>, <i>Tannerella forsythia</i>, <i>Campylobacter gracilis</i>, <i>Eubacterium nodatum</i>, <i>Fusobacterium nucleatum spp</i>. <i>vincentii</i>, <i>Parvimonas micra</i>, <i>Prevotella intermedia</i>, <i>Campylobacter rectus</i>, and <i>Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans</i>), as along with some accessory pathogens such as: <i>Streptococcus gordonii</i>, and <i>Veillonella parvula</i> that favor the virulence of late colonizers.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Although there are evident alterations in the composition of the subgingival microbiota in subjects with obesity and periodontitis, it is still a challenge to identify a specific pattern of microbiota in these subjects. {"title":"[Surface roughness of two composite resins after immersion in soda drinks: in vitro study].","authors":"Sharon Gianella Alarcón-Torres, Martín Andrés Chávez-Méndez","doi":"10.21142/2523-2754-1201-2024-185","DOIUrl":"10.21142/2523-2754-1201-2024-185","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>Compare the surface roughness of two composite resins after immersion in carbonated beverages.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>160 resin discs (6 x 2 mm) were divided into 8 groups (n=20 per group) according to type of resin (Filtek™ Z350 XT® and Palfique LX5®) and type of immersion in beverages (distilled water, Coca Cola®, Inca Kola® and Kola Escocesa®. The immersions were carried out under a structured cycle: 4 immersions a day for 5 days, intermediate storage in distilled water and overnight incubation for 8 h at 37°C. The measurements with the roughness meter were evaluated in three times: baseline, 7 and 14 days. The three-way Anova test was used at P<0.05.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Roughness showed differences only for the individual factors of time (P<0.000) and resin (P=0.000), and for the interaction time*drink (P=0.000) and resin*drink (P=0.003). Roughness was higher with Filtek Z350 XT® immersed with Inca Kola® (0.85 ± 0.37) than 14 days compared to other times (P=0.035) and with Palfique LX5 immersed in Coca Cola® at 7 days (1.61 ± 0.42) and in Inca Kola® at 14 days (1.66 ± 0.56) compared to distilled water (P<0,05).</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Surface roughness was affected by the type of resin, the type of soft drink and the immersion time. Edited photographs of a man and a woman were used. The maxilla being moved in a vertical direction while the mandible was moved in a sagittal direction, various combinations of the photographic profile of the two individuals were created. These movements created 9 photographic profiles for the woman and the man; for intra-observer reliability, two photo profiles of both sexes were duplicated. Chi square tests and binary logistic regression were used. P<0.05.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>In general, the evaluated individuals mostly preferred the type 6 profile (65.7%), followed by the type 5 profile (21.7%) (slightly convex). Measurements were made before, during and after treatment on anxiety according to the IDARE questionnaire of 40 questions (20 trait and 20 state) and their physiological response was evaluated according to oxygen saturation (OS), pulse and blood pressure (BP) measured. with digital pulse oximeter and blood pressure monitor. The Friedman and Spearman correlation tests were used, working with a value of P<0.05.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Most patients had a medium level of anxiety before dental treatment (state 49.4% and trait 55.6%). OS, pulse and BP increased after application of the anesthetic and decreased at the end of treatment, with significant differences (<i>P</i><0.05). I make detailed observations for each observation sheet, the patient's age, sex, dental shape and size alterations, the type of dentition presented, the affected quadrant and the type of dental piece.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A higher prevalence of dental anomaly of shape was found with 85.10% (308) and of size with 14.9% (54). The sample included 84 students. The instrument was a questionnaire validated by expert judgment which contained 22 questions divided into 2 parts, 11 questions on NSAIDs and 11 questions on antibiotics, indicating whether the level of knowledge was adequate or inadequate.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The level of knowledge in the use of analgesics and anti-inflammatories in undergraduate students of cycle XII was insufficient (90.5%), followed by 82.9% in cycle X and finally 82.1% in cycle VIII also insufficient.
