No entanto, a superfície ocupada por essas formações vem diminuindo consideravelmente o que requer ações estratégicas para preservar esses recursos. Nesse contexto, o presente estudo teve como objetivo estimar o estoque de carbono em formações florestais e savânicas da UPRB, analisando as variações ocorridas nos anos de 2013 e 2018, utilizando dados de campo, sensoriamento remoto e geoprocessamento. A abordagem proposta para a área trinacional da bacia é inédita e possibilitou quantificar o carbono na vegetação da UPRB, mostrando uma redução de 3,69% no estoque, o que equivale a aproximadamente 78,5 milhões de MgC emitidos na atmosfera durante o período analisado.6 , -37 x 10 6 e -7,2 x 10 6 MgC, respectivamente, enquanto o Mato Grosso do Sul (Brasil) apresentou um aumento de 8 x 10 6 no estoque de carbono. Dos 108 municípios avaliados, 48 apresentaram variação positiva no estoque de carbono aéreo. O mapeamento das variações de carbono na UPRB permitiu localizar onde devem ser implementadas ou intensificadas atitudes de redução de emissões por desmatamento e mudanças na cobertura da terra. Assim, a aplicação da metodologia proposta pode servir como um dos parâmetros para determinar as variações no estoque de carbono aéreo na região de pesquisa. Changes in vegetation cover and carbon stock in central South America: an analysis using field data and remote sensing Abstract The central region of South America, where the Upper Paraguay River Basin (UPRB) is located, is considered to be one of the largest above ground carbon reservoirs on the planet. However, the surface occupied by these formations has been decreasing considerably which requires strategic actions to preserve these resources. In this context, the present study aimed to estimate the carbon stock in forest and savanna formations of UPRB, analyzing the variations that occurred in the years 2013 and 2018, using field data, remote sensing and geoprocessing. The proposed approach for the tri-national area of the basin is unprecedented and made it possible to quantify carbon in the UPRB vegetation, showing a reduction of 3.69% in the stock, which is equivalent to approximately 78.5 million MgC emitted into the atmosphere during the analyzed period. The portion of the watershed inside Bolivia, Paraguay and Mato Grosso (Brazil) showed negative variations of -42.3x106, -37x106 and -7.2x106 MgC, respectively, while Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil) showed an increase of 8x106 in the carbon stock. The aboveground carbon stock varied positively in 48 out of the 108 municipalities examined. The mapping of carbon variations in the UPRB allowed us to locate where attitudes towards reducing emissions from deforestation and changes in land cover should be implemented or intensified. Thus, the application of the proposed methodology can serv","PeriodicalId":332244,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hyperspectral Remote Sensing","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131867418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Rio Tinto mining district contains a giant world-class polymetallic sulfide deposit that has been mined from the antiquity to the modern times. The mining and ore processing activities have created large areas covered by sulfide-bearing mine waste, tailings, flooded open pits, slags, galleries and other mining facilities. The sulfide-bearing mine waste generates acid mine drainage (AMD) that contaminates the fluvial network. The Rio Tinto River is one of most AMD contaminated rivers in the world. Many secondary minerals associated with sulfide-bearing mine waste have diagnostic reflectance spectra due to absorptions of ferric and ferrous iron, water and hydroxyl. The mapping of the surface distribution of these secondary minerals is useful for environmental studies. The AVIRIS-NG radiance data were converted to surface reflectance using the Fast Line-of-sight Atmospheric Analysis of Hypercubes model. The AVIRIS-NG imagery was analyzed using the spectral mixture analysis. The AVIRIS-NG accurately mapped acid water, jarosite, goethite, hematite, melanterite, rozenite, copiapite, gypsum, undifferentiated metal sulfate hydrates, sericite and kaolinite. Acid waters occur in the tailings ponds, in the Rio Tinto River, and in various other locations within the study area. Jarosite, goethite and hematite are the predominant secondary iron minerals in the areas covered by sulfide-bearing mine waste. These secondary iron minerals are indicators of acid mine drainage generation. In few locations were distinguished from the AVIRIS-NG data the mineral melanterite and its dehydration product rozenite. The study gives new information on the surface distribution of environmentally important secondary iron minerals in the Rio Tinto mining district in southwestern Spain. The mapping results produced by the analysis of the AVIRIS-NG data can be useful to the environmental studies concerned with the pollution from acid mine drainage of the fluvial network of the area. The surface temperature is one of the main climatic contributors regarding the change in the response of the targets in the surface, which imply changes in the radiation balance and consecutively in the spectral response felt by the satellites. The increase in temperature, characteristic of urban surfaces, can be analyzed using the thermal infrared band of satellites, which allow the estimation of surface temperature values. The objective of the research was to compare the surface temperature results obtained with the processing of the thermal infrared bands (TIR - Thermal InfraRed) of the Landsat 8 satellite, with images of all months of the year except those with cloud coverage that makes processing impossible ; relating the surface temperature values obtained and the climatic variability of the Boa Viagem neighborhood. Boa Viagem, as a neighborhood of great urban density and high economic interest, surface temperature studies, especially those based on Landsat 8 thermal images, provide an important parameter for understanding the neighborhood's microclimate and the vecto rs of its changes. The surface temperature in Boa Viagem showed to vary and spatialize differently according to the month and season of the year, with the characteristics of the artificial relief presented as the main influence on the microclimate. The study of TS associated with analyzes of land use and climate change at the regional level can enrich and support very important discussions on anthropic impacts a nd the horizontal and vertical growth of cities.
