The population within the research consisted of 138 participants, 80 from elementary school and 58 from high school, aged between 11 and 18 years. Information was obtained through classroom observations, questionnaires, interviews, and visual narratives. The results revealed that different emotions hinder students from speaking English in class, such as the fear of making a mistake, 30.80%; fear of being judged by others, 21.88%; shyness, 18.30%; lack of confidence, 12.50%; and anxiety, 2.68%. Pearson’s correlation tests revealed that there is an influence of gender with respect to the type of emotion experienced, female students expressed greater susceptibility to negative emotions compared to male students. Findings suggest that Ecuadorian teachers should be more aware of their students’ emotions in order to find the possible approaches that may result in an improvement in their English language. The authors recommend carrying out more studies on the connection between emotions and speaking, or emotions and any other skills.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49138873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The corona crisis is such a tipping point for the world. The crisis is like a tsunami which we have to go through together. Citizens are all dazed-looking around at what is causing the corona pandemic, and the situation two to three months after the outbreak indicates that the end of the crisis is far from out of sight. First, it was China, then Europe, then the United States, and now more recently the battlefield of the coronavirus is called Latin America. It is to be expected that the virus will leave more scars on this continent, given that Latin America always has been a continent of structured chaos, corruption, crime, and authoritarian regimes. Without the slightest scruples, the virus and the lockdown are exploited to push through the personal agenda and the settling of disputes.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43142982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La educacion inclusiva tiene que ver con el proceso de reducir las barreras que limitan la presencia y la participacion de los estudiantes, procurando eliminar todo tipo de formas que conlleven a la exclusion. Las universidades, aunque diversas en sus prioridades, precisan avanzar hacia un modelo de educacion basado en los principios de la educacion inclusiva. El proposito del presente estudio consistio en identificar la percepcion de docentes y estudiantes sobre culturas, politicas y practicas inclusivas de la Facultad de Psicologia de la Universidad de Cuenca en Ecuador. Para ello se utilizo una muestra conformada por 241 estudiantes y 44 docentes. Las percepciones de docentes y estudiantes con respecto a la educacion inclusiva fueron recolectadas utilizando la guia del Indice de Inclusion y los datos fueron procesados mediante estadisticos descriptivos e inferenciales no parametricos. Los resultados revelaron que, tanto estudiantes como profesores, estan de acuerdo en las tres dimensiones evaluadas. Se encontro que la dimension crear culturas inclusivas es la mas valorada, seguida de la dimension desarrollar practicas inclusivas, y finalmente, la menos valorada fue la dimension elaborar politicas inclusivas. Ademas, es importante senalar que en promedio 8.4% de los items del Indice de Inclusion presentaron valores inusuales debido a falta de informacion, lo que da lugar al planteamiento de un estudio de validez del constructo del Indice para la Inclusion.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46590620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, many challenges are associated with water governance, encompassing varying degrees of cooperation and conflict. This technical note describes the multiple water governance models in place in Ecuador such as public, private, community, and partnerships; supported by literature, and discusses the efficiency level of each model for drinking water supply and democratic citizen participation. The analysis articulates how the heterogeneity of governance models across the country respond to different socio-economic and environmental characteristics, and how the distinctive models of water governance lead to vast differences in how people understand and experience governance. The presentation and qualitative case comparison of the existing water management models revealed the transversal character of the problems affecting efficient water management, as well as the sector associated challenges and limitations. The note attempts to establish some insights about the conditions under which the various water management models are suitable and effective. The manuscript concludes by outlining several directions for future research.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43792945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its appearance is more frequent in the parotid gland, but it is extremely rare in the sublingual gland and even more with cervical ranula, being reported in the literature so far only very few cases worldwide with such location. The goal was to describe a sick elderly patient with an aggressive sublingual and cervical tumor with a definitive post-surgical diagnosis of giant acinar carcinoma of sublingual gland with cervical ranula. The case involves a white female patient, 87-year-old, with a personal history of radical mastectomy by Ductal Carcinoma of the left breast, no family pathological history and no toxic habits with a medical history of having been attended for several months in non-specialized centers by a sublingual tumor with progressive clinical worsening and relevant diagnostic divergences. The patient was diagnosed and treated surgically and successfully recovered, however, the delay in the accurate diagnosis and treatment in malignant salivary gland tumors caused by the initial care of patients in hospital institutions non-specialized in the treatment of salivary glands should be strengthened in view of decreasing time and avoiding inadequate treatments by diagnostic errors.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44948990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Primero, se desarrollo un diseno experimental y se definieron las condiciones optimas de fermentacion (temperatura, tiempo de fermentacion y concentracion de sal marina) para el crecimiento de bacterias lacticas. El optimo corresponde a una temperatura de 25oC, una duracion de 14 dias y un contenido de sal marina del 3%. El experimento se replico en once frascos y se determino el pH, la concentracion de glucosa, fructosa y bacterias acido lacticas. En segundo lugar, se utilizo el metodo integral para definir la cinetica quimica de la reaccion. Para la glucosa, la cinetica se ajusto a una de orden cero y constante cinetica 2x10-6 g/ml.min (coeficiente de correlacion = 0.98), y mostro que la velocidad de reaccion era independiente de la concentracion de la glucosa. Con respecto a la fructosa, la cinetica de segundo orden establecio una constante cinetica 1.45x 10-2 ml/g.min (coeficiente de correlacion = 0.98). Asi la ecuacion 0.0145 (C 2] g/ml.min representa la velocidad de consumo de azucar en una reaccion de fermentacion lactica natural de col blanca. El enfoque de modelado ayudara al fermentador a mejorar el diseno y el proceso de produccion.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46875682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

What would the world and our life look like without science! Of course, scientists alone won’t be able to turn research findings into effective, efficient and cost-effective solutions; it requires the cooperation between different actors of the society. The role of the politicians in this is crucial, because through smart policies and measures, they are able to (i) stimulate and intensify research endeavours, and (ii) develop strategies that ensure that research findings are converted into solutions. This implies that the academic community publishes their results and that society takes notice of the inventions. The best way to do this is by publishing findings in an easy and accessible way for the society as a whole, in other words, by publishing research articles in open access journals, rather than in journals behind a paywall. Paywalls are withholding a substantial amount of research results from a large fraction of the scientific community and the society, and as such from its final application. It hinders dramatically the scientific community and the society of the developing and economic emerging countries to get access to the research findings and solutions of the developed countries; hindering the progress of those countries. Monetising the access to new and existing research is according to Merton (1973) in contradiction with the ethos of science. Open data has the potential to generate new ideas and spark new collaborations between researchers, policymakers, and the society but according to this author they only become open data when they are reused.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45728020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

En el ejercicio se aplica un método alterno para efectuar el análisis cuantitativo de una mezcla binaria a partir de datos espectrofotométricos UV. Para tal propósito se preparó una mezcla de concentraciones conocidas de ácido 4-aminobenzóico y ácido nicotínico, se registraron sus absorbancias a diferentes longitudes de onda en el intervalo de 242 a 330 nanómetros, y los datos producidos se sometieron al procedimiento alternativo. En éste se realiza una sencilla transformación de la ecuación de absorbancia de la mezcla para obtener una relación lineal a partir de la cual se calcula las concentraciones de sus componentes. Pese a su sencillez, el método produce una muy buena concordancia entre las concentraciones calculadas y las reales de los componentes, errores menores del 2% han sido encontrados. El ejercicio provee una interesante alternativa al procedimiento convencional que habitualmente se enseña en un curso de análisis instrumental.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43971095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Having this in mind, the Flipped Learning (FL) model provides a promising learning alternative that links the learning environment with the student’s behavior while altering the traditional instruction model. The FL model involves activities in which students individually review online materials and develop projects and assignments in groups and on-site. The objective of this study was to evaluate the flipped learning model in arts education, more precisely how the introduction of this model affects the learning of the students from the University of Cuenca attending the course of music technology. The findings of this study highlighted the benefits of active learning and the acceptance of the material developed for the implementation of the FL model. Notwithstanding, the overall positive evaluation of the FL approach, the authors suggest carrying out more studies, involving a larger student population, to better identify and remedy remaining obstacles, what will facilitate the use of the FL model in other courses.","PeriodicalId":33189,"journal":{"name":"Maskana","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42563475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
