In addition, graduates of specific departments at faculties also have a chance to become a teacher by successfully completing pedagogical formation certificate programs. Thus, it is a matter of question what the main purpose of undergraduate students when beginning to study or studying at these departments is: becoming a teacher or not. Along with this inquiry, this paper presents a quantitative study focusing on reasons for department choice of undergraduates studying at English Language and Literature (ELL) department and their attitudes towards being a language teacher within the scope of teacher self-efficacy beliefs. \u0000Design/Methodology/Approach: Data of this quantitative study were collected from 220 undergraduates studying at English Language and Literature department of a state university in Turkiye by administering scales on the research purpose. \u0000Findings: The findings suggested that the primary reason reported was an interest in the department with knowledge and skills to be gained, which was followed by becoming an English language teacher with high level of teacher self-efficacy. \u0000Highlights: Even though there is no explicit focus on becoming an English teacher as part of curricula of non-ELT departments, undergraduates studying at these programs consider being an English teacher as the primary career option, which could lead to a need to evaluate curricula of these programs and teacher education.

We conducted group comparison analyses (t-test and ANOVA) to determine whether gender, job position, seniority, marital status and educational status led to a difference in teachers' value preferences. \u0000Findings: The values that are considered the most important by teachers were “hedonism” and the least mean score in “stimulation”. Also, the variable of gender caused a statistically significant difference in the values of “achievement”, “benevolence”, “security” and “universalism” in favor of female teachers. Single teachers have higher level of “achievement”, “benevolence”, “security”, “self-direction”, “stimulation” and “universalism” values. With regard to educational status, no meaningful difference was found towards value orientations. Also, age and seniority variables didn’t cause meaningful difference. \u0000Highlights: It is important to reveal the values adopted by teachers and school principals to make sense of education systems. Therefore, large-scale projects are implemented to develop theseskills within a lifelong learning approach. The Ministry of National Education (MoNE) has initiated “Vocational Training Center (VTC) Skill Development Programs” to improve the skills within the paradigm shift in VET system. This study aims to evaluate the performance of these programs in the first six months through the data collected from the participants. \u0000Design/Methodology/Approach: The study compares the number of students in VET skill development programs and the change of demographic characteristics in the last six months. Therefore, the data in the programs were used anonymously. The study is designed as descriptive research. \u0000Findings: The findings show that adults demand greatly for skill development programs in just four months and the number of participants has increased from approximately 6000 to 79000. The adults aged 31 and above constituted largest share of participants. The gender distribution of the participants is quite balanced and it is mostly valid at different age levels. In addition, 19% of participants graduated from associate degree and higher education levels. This reveals that adults need to develop their skills and are in high demand regardless of their education level. The service sector and creativity-related fields are highly preferred by adults and this pattern is valid for adults from different education levels. \u0000Highlights: VTC skill development programs have a great potential for upskilling and reskilling of adults in Türkiye. For the last six months, these programs are demanded from adults and the percentage of females have reached the peak level in VET. The fact that 19% of the participants are tertiary graduates indicates that adults who have graduated from tertiary education have a demand for acquiring new skills. The findings in the first six months show that the skills development programs reach the target group and meet an important need in skills development.

The participants included six preservice teachers studying in the final year of the Middle School Mathematics Teaching Program at a state university in Turkey. The research was carried out during the Teaching Practice course. The data consisted of the lesson plans prepared by the preservice teachers, video recordings of the lessons in which they put those plans into practice, field notes taken during lesson observations, and transcripts of one-on-one interviews with the preservice teachers after the lessons. Participants related mathematical understanding to interpreting situations or problems encountered in daily life mathematically, representing mathematical ideas, answering every question related to the subject, and developing a positive attitude toward mathematics. They began their lessons with daily life examples and then reminded the students of their prior knowledge, presented definitions of concepts, and worked with students on sample exercises using different representations during the lessons. These views and practices are discussed in the context of preservice teachers’ designs of learning environments that promote mathematical understanding.

In order to determine the sample of the study, homogeneous sampling technique was used within the framework of purposive sampling method. The data of the study was collected in two stages; in the first stage, the reading comprehension test and the problem-solving test were applied to the students to identify the poor readers. In the second stage, semi-structured interviews were conducted with poor readers. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed with a descriptive point of view. \u0000Findings According to the findings of the study, it was determined that poor readers made reading errors by misreading, skipping letter syllable, adding syllable letter, repeating part of the word, and reversing the word. In the reading comprehension process, it was seen that poor readers understood simple comprehension questions better than deep comprehension questions. It has been determined that poor readers have difficulties in all the problem-solving steps of the routine problem-solving process, especially in the steps of understanding the problem and planning. it was seen that poor readers could not write what was given and requested to facilitate the understanding of the problem and could not express the problem in figure. It was concluded that poor readers had more difficulties in solving the initial unknown problems in routine problems, and they could not solve non-routine problems at all. \u0000Highlights: In the light of all these findings, the researchers concluded that increasing the students' reading comprehension would increase their problem-solving success.
