It is clear that this is a particular working condition that is often quite different from the actual one. In fact, voltage distortion in nowadays distribution networks can be not negligible. The measurement of these harmonic components is becoming more and more important, in particular for power quality monitoring. Therefore, the whole process of calibration should be reconsidered in order to take into account the behavior also under these operating conditions. A possible solution is to test the transducers by applying signals having a harmonic content similar to that which can be found in distribution networks. In order to perform such a kind of test an arbitrary medium voltage generator is required. This paper describes a voltage transducer testing setup based on a medium voltage generator proposed by the author in a recent paper. Moreover an evaluation of the generation accuracy is provided when the setup is used to test voltage transducers under realistic working conditions.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131714628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we explore potential solutions to overcome this challenge by adopting a Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) coil system able to orientate the magnetic field to a specific location. For the orientation of the magnetic field, we propose to power the neighbor coils of the active ones in the opposite direction. Both analytical models and finite element models of Single Input Single output (SISO) and MISO configurations were developed. The investigations show that MISO orientated system has a better performance to transfer power over a bigger distance and achieve high efficiency in case of lateral misalignment between the sending and the receiving coils.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125235363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some regulatory frameworks in Europe - as the Italian regulation - are starting to address this issue, and the installation of PQ meters is becoming mandatory in HV/MV substations. The measurements data provided by the PQ meters placed in HV/MV grid can be correlated to identify the source of the disturbances only if the measurements instruments are time synchronized. The Italian regulation requires the PQ meters have to be synchronized using a GPS receiver, with a time synchronization uncertainty below 20 ms. The paper investigates the synchronization requirements of a power quality measurement system in order to propose a cost-effective network based time reference instead of costly GPS solutions. Some real examples from a field test area in Italy are used as input for parameters definition.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130819616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This architecture was obtained from modifications of a programmable gain amplifier developed in previous work. The proposed circuit is composed of switches, capacitors and an operational amplifier, and use three groups of signals for activating the switches, which among other functions, allows the amplifier's gain selection. The circuit also allow the selection of operating modes that can be a single-ended mode, a differential mode, and calibration mode. Simulation and experimental results with a prototype created from the proposed architecture are presented and compared with the previous work.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130872307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed converter integrates two input sources and provides energy to two outputs with different voltage levels. The converter is useful to power up the different units in portable measuring devices which have diversified input voltage requirements and in addition to that, it is able to charge the batteries for extended use. The use of renewable energy source enables the devices to operate for longer time at remote off grid locations where utility connections are not available. This feature not only minimizes the dependency of the instruments on batteries but also makes it more reliable. The converter has simple design, low power losses due to less components and can operate in single and double input modes. The use of single inductor makes the control easy as the multiple inductors are difficult to integrate. Design and analysis are presented and are verified by simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131019693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, the prismatic refractive power measuring instruments were usually performed by using human eyes and the larger uncertainty of measurement will be induced while observing the measuring patterns using human eyes. Therefore this study presents the development of automatic prismatic refractive power measuring instrument, which was integrating machine vision, image analysis and processing without human operation. The experimental results showed the automatic prismatic refractive power measuring instrument has the high accuracy and good repeatability.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132334690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But l0 norm minimization requires exhaustively listing all possibility of the original signals, which is an NP-hard problem to achieve difficultly by traditional algorithm.This paper proposes a signal reconstruction algorithm based on artificial immune algorithm, which can solve l0 norm minimization directly. It has been proved through numerical simulations that performance of signal reconstruction and photo-acoustic image reconstruction based on the proposed method is superior to that of OMP algorithm.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128903398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The device comprises a custom designed scaffold, a disposable polymeric chip for surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensing, and a smartphone. This commercial telecommunication device provides both, the optical illumination required for triggering of the SPR phenomenon and established by its active-matrix of organic light-emitting diodes (i.e., the smartphone display), whereas optical detection is obtained by means of its 1.9 Mpx CMOS image sensor that serves as the front camera. This concept does not require any additional optical device, except the SPR-chip itself and mechanical scaffold. The so-called angular interrogation mode has been employed for detection of the SPR feature. Employing appropriate data extraction algorithms, the sensitivity of the instrument approaches 10-5 RIU. This value compares well with existing laboratory style SPR-instruments, confirming feasibility of this technical approach.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115565792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In many cases, flow monitoring determines the efficiency and safety of processes and equipment. Thus, this paper presents a preliminary study about developing an optical tomography system for real-time monitoring of gas-liquid two-phase flows. The system comprises 16 optical sources and 16 optical receivers operating at near-infrared wavelength. Time response of single channels is optimized allowing for fast frame rate measurements up to 1000 frames/s. Initial tests in a two-phase flow loop show promising results.","PeriodicalId":331484,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings","volume":"16 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124204418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
