These measurements allow the evaluation of the radiological risk to the human beings and environment. The gamma radiation measurements laboratory, in the Physics Department of the University of Bari in collaboration with the Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), is active since 2008. The laboratory is equipped with a an Ortec n-type coaxial high purity germanium (HPGe) detector.In this paper, an overview of the ongoing activities on gamma radiation measurements in our laboratory, will be given. These measurements are based on the precise knowledge of the absolute full energy-peak efficiency (FEPE) of the HPGe detector. The FEPE, evaluated using point and volume calibrated sources, will be presented and will be compared with the efficiency obtained using a dedicated software for gamma spectrometry (GammaVision and ANGLE). Furthermore, we present the efficiency calculated via Monte Carlo (GEANT4) simulation. We also describe a case study of gamma measurements application to the dating technique based on the Thermoluminescence (TL). A preliminary study on the evaluation of the gamma annual dose absorbed by TL dating samples, using GEANT4, will be described.","PeriodicalId":330672,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Advances in Sensors and Interfaces (IWASI)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130273743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a centralized-architecture approach, where all sensors and actuators send and receive data from the cloud, is not sustainable in terms of both the amount of data flooding from sensors to the cloud and the energy required to keep all these sensors alive. This is particularly true in the field of vision sensors, where the amount of data to be handled and transmitted can be high, while the real information we are interested in is possibly less \"bulky\" (e.g. a classification category or a feature). Data reduction is therefore desirable at the node level. This paper evaluates the use of a smart sensor, the FORENSOR sensor, which embeds motion detection in hardware, in a classification scenario. We achieve 87% accuracy, and we demonstrate the advantages of our sensor w.r.t frame-difference based ones. We discuss the classification algorithm chosen and we present the estimation of the power consumption, proving that the overall system consumes less than 2mW, thus being adequate for an IoT scenario.","PeriodicalId":330672,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Advances in Sensors and Interfaces (IWASI)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132818702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Arrays of 16 pixels have been assembled to equip the focal plane of the prototype Schwarzschild-Couder Medium Size Telescope (pSCT) proposed for the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory. Each camera module is composed by 4 matrices of 16-pixel optical units coupled with TARGET-7 ASIC front-end electronics for signal amplification and digitization. A total of 9 modules have been successfully integrated on the pSCT camera and are currently taking data. In this contribution we provide a summary of the performances of the HD3 technology as measured in the INFN laboratories. The challenge is harder for embedded IoT (edge) devices, due to their pervasive diffusion in today’s world as well as their stricter resources (tight area and energy budgets). Amongst various classes of quantum-resistant cryptography schemes, Lattice- based Cryptography (LBC) is emerging as one of the most viable, almost half of the ‘survivors’ of second round of the NIST’s PQC competition are lattice-based in construction. This paper surveys the practicality of deployment of these schemes. In this context, the state-of-the-art LBC implementations on the constrained devices (including low-power FPGAs and embedded microprocessors), leading in terms of low-power footprint, small area, compact bandwidth requirements and high performance is fairly evaluated and bench-marked. The work concludes by identifying a suite of some favorite LBC schemes in terms of various IoT critical performance bench-marks.","PeriodicalId":330672,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Advances in Sensors and Interfaces (IWASI)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116201222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To cope with the corresponding increase in background rates in the forward muon system of CMS and to improve the trigger capabilities to keep the trigger rate at an acceptable level while not compromising the physics potential, the forward muon system of the CMS experiment will be upgraded with Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) and Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) detectors. In 2019 triple-GEM detectors will be installed in the first station of the muon detector, while a second station will be installed in 2022.
