Although Istio default log message includes the data length of HTTP response body, it doesn’t indicate the structure of HTTP response body such as key-value pair counts. Therefore, system administrator takes time to identify root cause of error by Istio default log message and needs to have skills in fault diagnosis. This paper proposes an algorithm that calculates an indicator for application error identification. The algorithm counts items such as map or list in JSON format from HTTP response body as the indicator. The indicator represents the body structure of HTTP response and is recorded in log messages as an additional field. The indicator enables system administrator to identify application error by log messages. The experiment measures log message length increase by the indicator and response time increase by the indicator calculation. The average response time of the proposed log format increases by 7% compared with Istio default log format. The average log message length increase in the proposed method is 216 bytes compared to Istio default log format.","PeriodicalId":327213,"journal":{"name":"2023 6th Conference on Cloud and Internet of Things (CIoT)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132164734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be standardized under the organization’s viewpoints toward its purposes and objectives, given the facilities provided by a cloud service provider. IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) topology offers many opportunities, including serverless capability in a docker container through software abstraction, and magnifying customization. Techniques such as intensifying the quality of streamlined services, and uplifts productivity, become sufficient evidence of underlying equal responsibilities between provider and customer, which need to be evaluated its risks periodically to improve the resilience of containerized objects. This study contributes alternate insight concerning risk assessment methodology in a docker container environment to mitigate the risk rating and propose risk treatment recommendations for cloud providers and customers. This approach is especially beneficial in smart city scenarios, wherein different types of resources (i.e., for sensing and actuation, in addition to computation and storage) are key to providing effective location-based services. This article addresses sharing heterogeneous resources for IoT applications in smart cities. Specifically, it takes a gametheoretic approach and addresses the problem of allocating resources from different devices as a combinatorial double auction. Features specific to IoT devices, including their affinity (e.g., ownership and co-location), are leveraged to form groups that offer resource bundles with a certain reliability. The proposed solution incurs a low computational complexity and achieves several important economic properties: incentive compatibility, individual rationality, and a balanced budget. Simulations based on a large-scale dataset demonstrate that the combinatorial double auction is effective and can be completed in a short time.","PeriodicalId":327213,"journal":{"name":"2023 6th Conference on Cloud and Internet of Things (CIoT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133474226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of this proposed model is to increase the connectivity and the spectral efficiency through non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme. However, the complexity of the proposed model is increased due to the successive interference cancellation (SIC) operation at the receiver. Hence, the well known physical layer network coding (PLNC) scheme is used in this model which reduce the complexity significantly.","PeriodicalId":327213,"journal":{"name":"2023 6th Conference on Cloud and Internet of Things (CIoT)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131106520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we focus on the urban traffic forecasting application. In such context, centralized learning (i.e., training a model in a central unit with data sent from the sensors) or having one model per sensor are the state-of the art solutions. However, the transmission of such big amount of data, as those from a massive deployment of traffic intensity sensors, implies dense network architectures, long transmission delay, higher network congestion probability and significant energy consumption. On the other hand, training a model only with local data from each sensor lacks in generalization. In this paper we advocate Edge Intelligence and propose a federated peer-to-peer Continual Learning strategy, which applies two variants of Continual Learning principles on data from traffic intensity sensors deployed in a city with the aim to create collaboratively a single general model for all. The analysis of results, performed with real data from a district in Madrid, demonstrates that urban traffic forecasting can be successfully performed in a peer-to-peer fashion. Moreover, we prove that the proposed approaches have lower energy footprint (up to 87% less) and comparable accuracy with respect to state-of-the-art benchmarks.","PeriodicalId":327213,"journal":{"name":"2023 6th Conference on Cloud and Internet of Things (CIoT)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115432824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Environmental monitoring plays a significant role, for example, in smart farming and smart city applications. Environmental magnitudes are usually measured using wireless sensor nodes, which are often battery-powered, and the number of sensing nodes can be large. One effective method for reducing the energy consumption of a sensor node is to use data compression to reduce the amount of data required for transmission via a wireless connection. Compressing the sensor data means fewer transmission periods, and thus, lower energy consumption. Compression methods should be effective for compressing environmental magnitudes and be computationally light to be suitable for constrained sensor nodes. A compression algorithm should be able to compress an online data stream. In this paper, we review some compression algorithms suitable for environmental monitoring and present two new versions of those algorithms. The algorithms were evaluated, tested, and compared. The main parameters used for the comparisons were compression ratio, root mean square error, and inherent latency. The simulation results obtained using real datasets demonstrate that simple linearity-based compression algorithms are effective and suitable for compressing environmental data. Two new compression algorithm versions proved to be effective for compressing sensor data with reasonable compression quality and predictable inherent latency.","PeriodicalId":327213,"journal":{"name":"2023 6th Conference on Cloud and Internet of Things (CIoT)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114955333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, several IoT devices have been deployed in multiple domain applications, and remarkable growth is expected in the coming years. This high adoption of IoT solutions brings about complex network management, technological fragmentation, and security costs. The Recursive Inter-Networking Architecture (RINA) has recently emerged as a future Internet paradigm to overcome network complexity. RINA has shown relevant advantages in security, management, and performance by minimizing the number of protocols to only two and extracting as much commonality as possible. However, RINA has not been tested in IoT environments due to the lack of a RINA implementation for embedded devices. For this reason, this paper presents the RINAsense implementation for embedded devices to facilitate RINA prototyping in IoT environments. An instance of RINAsense was implemented by using the ESP32 IoT platform and the FreeRTOS kernel. The instance used Wi-Fi technology to communicate with an IRATI-based IoT gateway. RINAsense components were developed as a set of libraries based on the C language to facilitate the replicability and extension of the implementation. Finally, a testbed was implemented to measure RINAsense performance regarding goodput, packet loss, and delay. RINAsense implementation achieved a goodput of 1,18 Mbps, 0,01% packet loss, and an average of 2,3 milliseconds delay.","PeriodicalId":327213,"journal":{"name":"2023 6th Conference on Cloud and Internet of Things (CIoT)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115709185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These advances include migration to cloud computing, data engineering, and the democratization of tools. These changes allow for better management, data quality, security, and scalability, reducing operational costs. The objective of this research was to present a proposal for a data pre-processing package for meteorological stations classified as conventional. Among the main findings of this research is the need for data pre-processing for Machine Learning applications focused on precision irrigation, controlled by IoT devices; the use of data from conventional weather stations for Machine Learning applications; the availability of applications developed in Open Source repositories, and the proposal of a data pre-processing package to help professionals from different areas. The systematic review examined the various machine-learning applications for precision irrigation. Different models and mechanisms used to apply Machine Learning in precision irrigation projects were identified. In addition, we look at the challenges faced when using Machine Learning for precision irrigation, including the lack of data, the need for efficient data pre-processing, and the need to tune the model to get the best possible result. At the end of the article, we propose a data pre-processing package for conventional meteorological stations. This package includes normalization, noise removal, and outliers to improve the reliability of the input data.","PeriodicalId":327213,"journal":{"name":"2023 6th Conference on Cloud and Internet of Things (CIoT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116069114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The world is looking into alternative ways to increase the independence of the elderly. However, there are many risks associated with the independent living of the elderly. This paper presents an activity monitoring system which uses computer vision techniques to monitor the activities of vulnerable older people. The algorithms used in the system can detect their movements and track their activities which can build their activity profile. Once a deviation from their daily pattern is detected, the system can alert caregivers and family members. The proposed system has the potential to be a building block for remote elderly care services, in which they can live independently yet will have the attention of caregivers, if needed. Further trials are underway in the United Kingdom and South Africa, which will help to generalise the results of this research.","PeriodicalId":327213,"journal":{"name":"2023 6th Conference on Cloud and Internet of Things (CIoT)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121948435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
