The outcome of this conflict leads to the emergence of postcolonial theory, whose multiple discourses and trajectories, significations and positional ties has made its conceptualization difficult. Nonetheless as a set of unstable formations, it claims as its special provenance the terrain that in an earlier day used to go by the term ‘Third World’, describing the emergence of new cultural productions as a result of colonized-colonial relations. This paper however discusses the problems the colonized nations faced after the expiration of the so-called colonialism and through the study of Osita Ezenwanebe’s Withered Thrust and Helon Habila’s Measuring Time the paper reveals the postcolonial psychosis encountered by nations that have undergone the experience of colonial rule.","PeriodicalId":326484,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Culture, Society and Development","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122031686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve the study objectives, the researchers employed the approach of “surveying the audience of mass media” based on a sample of (400) students from different universities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. This sample has been chosen by the stratified random sampling from Al-Najah National University in the West Bank and the Islamic University in Gaza. The study has come up with the following results: (62.7%) of the study sample population watch Palestine T.V, whereas (37.3%) do not. So, the work discusses the synthesis of traditional and modern methods of communication as catalyst for prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS among Andoni women, due to their precarious situations being residents of rural areas amid illiteracy, cultural values and beliefs. The work adopted Diffusion of Innovation Theory as anchor for the discourse. After exploring the various submissions concerning the merits emanating from the fusion of the two media systems, putting them side-by-side with the peculiar nature of rural people in Nigeria, using Andoni as a case study, it concludes that trado-modern communication is a better communication strategy that should be adopted in the fight against the disease, based on empirical facts concerning their strength in awareness creation, advocacy and spread of innovation in the society. The quest for change in attitude towards assessing health care without any side effect in traditional and orthodox ways needed much to be desired. This study provides artful way of restoration without any side effect to battle aftermath. It assessed the efficacy of Krobos’ beads used for curative purposes. The study provides information on the traditional means of using beads for restoration among Krobos’ and further reviews the current trend of art therapy in other to provide road map for merging them for effective implementation and accessibility.  A case study design was employed and findings indicated that, the potencies of Krobos’ beads are manifested in psychological, physical, emotional and mythical means. It is therefore recommended that, in writing of art text books and other art materials, the inclusion of Ghana’s artistic therapeutic potencies need to be included to enrich our repertoire of art historic knowledge. Oromia International Bank and Cooperative Bank of Oromia were purposively selected as case studies with the intention that the nomenclature of the organizations is associated to the largest ethnic group in the study area (oromo). A descriptive survey research design was used in which quantitative data were collected from 237 samples selected based on convenience sampling technique. Data were then inserted in to SPSS version 20 for further analysis and presented using descriptive statistical tools. It was found that 79.3% of customers belong to the dominant ethnic group in the study area (Oromo). Respondents’ decision of becoming customers of the current bank was made because there were employees in the bank with whom they had personal relationships, realizing that they can make transactions using their mother-tongue language, the nomenclature of the bank is associated to their ethnic identity, and due to recommendations from close relatives and friends that have been using the bank (8%, 5.1%, 25.7%, 5.5%, respectively). In addition, social networks also play the role of serving as sources of information for customers during the process of bank selection. Findings suggest that social networks influence individuals’ economic behavior by supplying information, serving as role models, and recommending others to join an economic behavior similar to their own. Above all, people do not always behave after rational calculations of the costs and benefits of an economic action; instead, they also act according to the social setting in which they live, often in an attempt to comply with existing norms. Specifically, the influences of age, educational qualifications, marital status, income level, family size and beliefs about causes of road traffic accident on road-safety practices of taxi drivers were examined. Six research questions and six hypotheses were generated to guide the study. A survey design was used for the study. A sample size of 147 (30%) were selected using simple random sampling technique at the Drivers’ Union meeting-hall through the co-operation of their leaders. The instrument for data collection was a researcher’s constructed questionnaire titled ‘‘Social Variables and Road Safety Practices Questionnaire (SVRSPQ)’’ The instrument was pretested using Cronbach’s alpha statistics and a reliability coefficient of .78 was obtained. Simple percentage was used to answer the research questions while Chi-square was used for test of hypotheses at .05 probability level of significance. Findings revealed that age, educational qualification, marital status, income level, family size and beliefs about causes of road traffic accident all had positive influences on the road-safety practices of taxi drivers in Uyo metropolis. Intensive road-safety/health education campaign was recommended to inculcate safety-consciousness among all drivers and other road users in Uyo Metropolis and other parts of the state. The fruits of these trees, are so essential to rural livelihoods that their collection and processing, are subjects of intense competition among rural women. Recent studies, however suggest a significant degradation of agroforestry parklands, and the population densities of Shea and locust bean trees. Using a case study approach, and employing participatory tools such as focus group discussions, interviews and structured observations, the study sought to unpack the experiences of rural women on the decline in these tree species, and examine how this new reality affects their major livelihood assets. The study found that, the decline in Shea and locust bean trees, affects the social, human and economic capital of rural women. Exploitation of other environmental resources, the use of improved Shea processing methods, and vegetable farming, were identified as major adaptation strategies among rural women. The study also found evidence of deep-seated historical and socio-economic factors militating against the successful adaptation of rural women. Consequently, the study highlighted the need for micro credit accessibility programmes, and gendered land tenure arrangements to support rural women in Agriculture.
