The proposed method diagnoses the ISCF severity and slight ISCFs only by the voltage and the current signals without the rotational angle and the model parameters such as the stator resistance and the inductances. The proposed fault indicator to diagnose ISCFs is developed by using the phase difference between positive-sequence current and positive-sequence voltage, and the magnitude of negative-sequence voltage over negative-sequence current. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed fault indicator for diagnosing the ISCF severity and slight ISCFs.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122036842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, a method based on the Linear Discriminant Analysis and on the calculation of the first odd harmonics of these signals is proposed for an automatic detection of this fault. The performances of the classifiers trained with these data are tested in different conditions of supply frequency and load, showing a good diagnostic ability for the current-based classifier. On the other hand, the flux-based classifiers reveal the risk of obtaining misleading results when the flux sensors are not permanently installed on the motor, due to the strong dependence of this signal on the position of the sensors used for its acquisition.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126297882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over recent years, this technique is being increasingly incorporated in electric motors predictive maintenance programs. This is due to the fact that it has been reported its suitability for detecting certain types of problems, such as deficient bearing lubrication, cooling system problems, stator winding asymmetries or problems in the transmission system, among others. This paper presents an infrared-based methodology for detecting bearing anomalies in induction motors. It relies on the use of isothermal representations that enable to visualize the temperature gradient and, hence, to facilitate the localization of the anomaly source. At the same time, it enables an approximated computation of the motor losses, as it is carried out in the paper. The method is applied to both laboratory motors and industrial motors operating in a petrochemical plant. The results prove the potential of the presented infrared-based methodology to reliably detect the considered anomalies.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132332664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional methods applied to the analysis and simulation of rotor asymmetries in induction machines are based in the classical 2-D finite element approach, which is unable to reflect its complex effects, such as interbar currents and their interaction with the stator flux density wave. Thus, this work applies a 2D-3D multiphysics finite element procedure to assess the impact of a bar breakage on a rotor cage during stationary operation, with reduced computational cost compared to a full motor 3-D simulation. Initial results improve previous ones obtained for transient operation conditions, showing the potential of the approach and confirming previous analytical studies.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130064520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So this paper proposes a mathematical model for diagnosis of the inter-turn short circuit in the stator winding of electrical machines. This model uses the Pearson correlation coefficient and a pair of sensors, placed at 180° from each other around the machine to measure the external magnetic field in the machine vicinity. The data obtained from each sensor are analyzed and compared with each other when the load varies. It will be shown that one can obtain high probability to detect the fault using this method and experimental results show that the new method has high reliability level for fault detection. On the other hand, the presented method does not require any knowledge of a presumed machine healthy former state.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133383375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this way of detecting problems has never been exploited as a full-covering and reliable prognostic monitoring technology. Although the imposed current-signatures of different evolving mechanical faults in electric machines are well characterized, the relation between the severity of those faults and the corresponding faulty signatures is still not elucidated thoroughly. As the authors built an innovative test-rig on which all kinds of mechanical faults can be emulated with a wide variety of controllable environmental conditions, those specific relations can finally be investigated. The test-rig contains an 11kW induction machine with an integrated active magnetic bearing at drive-end side. The magnetic bearing can easily manipulate the rotor's position corresponding to a real manifesting and evolving mechanical fault with a high accuracy and reproducibility. In this paper, the relation of the current fault-signatures and the severity of misalignment and mechanical unbalance is investigated. After theoretically describing the different eccentricity-related rotor-faults, the faults are induced and emulated on the induction machine under test. The fault-components in the stator currents' spectra are monitored while the severity of the faults is being increased. By fitting corresponding trending-functions on the obtained results, the severity of misalignment and unbalance can be estimated out of stator current measurements.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114639868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early diagnosis of faults is a basic pillar in order to achieve full tolerance by the maintenance of faulty parts in electrical machines. As far as electrical drives are concerned, the share of mechanical faults (imbalances, gears and bearings) is very high. The mechanical fault detection is typically based on vibration signals, a robust and effective technique, that is quite invasive and with high latency. Recently, many theoretical and signalbased methods have been investigated for early diagnosis of mechanical faults by electrical machine signals. This paper will review methods for condition monitoring of mechanical faults, with special reference on those based on electrical signals and quite effective also for an early detection: generalized roughness and realistic incipient faults.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"222 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120872334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Porosity in aluminum die-cast squirrel cage rotors is inevitably introduced during the die cast process. Porosity can cause degradation in motor performance and can lead to a forced outage causing irreversible damage if it is extreme. Many off-line and on-line quality assurance test methods have been developed and applied for assessment of rotor quality. However, years of experience with the existing test methods revealed that they are not suitable for quality testing or capable of providing a quantitative assessment of rotor condition with sufficient sensitivity. In this paper, a new off-line test method capable of providing sensitive assessment of rotor porosity is proposed. It is shown that rotors with minor and distributed porosity that are difficult to detect with other tests can be screened out during manufacturing. The proposed method is verified through a 3 dimensional finite element analysis and experimental testing on closed and semi-open slot aluminum die cast rotors of 5.5 kW induction motors with porosity.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124763422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
