There will always be some amount of risk which is associated in any transaction. The extent of this risk would probably vary from industry to industry, but the underlying fact remains that risk will always exist as it cannot be eliminated from the system. This risk comprises of unique and market risks. Beta, which is basically a measure of the volatility, or systematic risk, of a security or a portfolio in comparison to the market as a whole, is used by investors to get an accurate measure of the market risk of various sectors. The objective of this paper is to understand and interpret the Return and Risk for eleven sectors of Indian economy over the last 10 years. The sector wise indices from NSE were used for the purpose of this analysis. The sectors that have been considered for the study include Auto, Banking, Energy, Finance, FMCG, IT, Media, Pharma, PSU Banks and Realty sector. The analysis of Beta for each year indicates that Beta values have not been stable for any sector over the 10 year period except for the Auto sector. The Beta value for the Auto sector is constant over the last 10 years whereas values of some sectors have shown an increasing trend and the other shows a decreasing trend.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122242263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are reasons like directive lending to few sectors, wilful defaults, lack of proper due diligence, inefficient legal policies, political pressure, adverse economic and market conditions, delay in disbursement of loan, inefficient recovery mechanisms which raise non-performing assets in Indian banking system. Among the banks in India, public sector banks have highest portion of non-performing assets that is more than 80%. In Public sector banks trend of gross non-performing assets ratio is increasing after 2009, whereas in private and foreign banks the trend is continuously decreasing. The NPAs’ trend is forecasted using time series analysis method where moving average, weighted moving average, exponential techniques and errors are computed. Private, public & foreign banks ratios are forecasted and some measures are suggested as proper credit monitoing, better KYC norms, and faster disbursement of loans with efficient due diligence, productive recovery mechanism, universal standards and policies which can be useful in improving the bank's performance in controlling NPAs.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134575511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Indian investors incorporate saving habits but being conventional in their approach they are still reluctant to make investments in modern investment options. The risk and return are the important component for an investment options and among the various investment avenues available, the investor tries to identify this important relationship. To study the same, using descriptive statistics and ANOVA we have done the investment profiling of investors for three classes i.e. business, salaried and professional class investors which explains style of individual preferences in investment decisions and their investment pattern. The results highlight that certain factors like education level, awareness about the current financial system, age of investor etc. make significant impact while deciding the investment avenue. Awareness was the biggest barrier for making investment in unconventional financial instruments.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130830825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In older periods much importance was not given to the attitudes and desires of consumers. People thought that their business was based on the knowledge, skills and availability of funds. But now the situation has changed, business in all sectors is consumer oriented. Even before commencing business itself, business people try to know the desires, attitudes and behavior of the consumers. This enables them to supply the materials at their convenience to the satisfaction of the consumers. Groceries are important domestic products without which it is very difficult to survive. Many traders are involved in grocery business, there is heavy competition in the market. Aligarh city has experienced rapid development in the last decade. Well known for industry, Aligarh is familiar for its locks and as an educational hub. A number of grocery departmental stores and shopping complexes are now being introduced into the Aligarh Market. In both organized and unorganized grocery retailing it is important to ascertain the buying behaviour of consumers especially women as they are the primary buyers of groceries in India.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126955667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An access to finance is essential not only for maintaining and improving the social and economic status of a person, but also is essential for meeting all needs. Without having an account people do not save for future requirements, or avoid high interest payments. In this study an attempt has been made to measure the financial inclusion status with an explanatory variable of bank branch including off site ATMs and two endogenous variables of deposit accounts and credit accounts which measure financial inclusion. The result reveals that both the bi-variate regression results are significant with common set of an explanatory variable. As branches are the primary interface between public and formal deposit and credit accounts, in the second part of the analysis the primary factors of opening a new branch have also been examined. It clearly indicates that presence of branch and ATMs have significant impact on financial inclusion. The results also reveals that expansion of branch significantly depends on the six variables of one lag period value of deposit to GDP; deposit per branch; credit to GDP; credit per branch; branch per thousand square kilometre; and average population per branch.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126098329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
