However, some women do attain leadership positions. A study was undertaken to identify the factors contributing to women progression to leadership positions. An understanding of factors contributing to women progression to leadership positions may facilitate women at entry level to work their way to leadership positions. Extensive literature review revealed sixteen factors that contribute to women progression to leadership positions, but the published work did not relate to IT Industry. The previously published work was across the industry spectrum ranging from manufacturing, banking, insurance, retail, modeling, infrastructure and Information Technology. The authors could not find any specific study in the Indian context. The study was interesting because the culture, ethos and social expectations of the Indian working women leaders were different from that of the western and developed countries. This exploratory qualitative study, primarily aims at understanding the factors contributing to women progression to leadership positions in the IT organisations. The researchers used a purposive sample of 35 women and conducted in-depth unstructured interviews. This conceptual paper tries to identify various factors leading to women progression in Indian IT industry which adds to an evolving body of knowledge aimed at understanding women progression to leadership positions in IT organisations.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130367321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector has similarities with both manufacturing and agricultural sectors. Considering the importance of FMCG sector this study is focussed on forecasting the share prices and volatility of FMCG sector stocks. Four large cap stocks from the S&P BSE Index are taken into consideration based on their market capitalization. Share prices are forecasted using ARMA and volatility forecast is performed using GARCH. It is found that the forecasted prices of stocks of FMCG sector are showing a declining trend and the forecasted volatility associated with these stocks are low. The probable reason for this is investors look for considerable risky stocks with high returns (bullish).","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115745979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even an unimpeded condition like Menopause has not been able to be free from marketing influence. Menopause is the most striking event occurring during the middle age in women. It can be defined as the time when there has been no menstrual period for 12 consecutive months and no other biological or physiological cause can be identified. It is the end of fertility, the end of childbearing years. Menopause has wider implications than simply loss of fertility. It sets the stage for ageing. Menopause indicates that ovaries are no more functional & hence results in low Estrogen levels in the women’s body. Pharma Companies are, hence, utilising this gap of “low Estrogen levels” to market various Estrogen Brands. The total Estrogen market stands at 38 Cr & there is a growth spurt with introduction of newer brands in the last 2 years. The social shift from viewing Menopause as a natural period to adjustment to one of the deficient conditions can be attributed to Estrogen or Menopause Marketing. The number of menopausal women in India is around 43 million. In 2026 experts have estimated the population in India will be around 1.4 billion, people over 60 years will be 173 million, and the menopausal population will be 103 million. This population estimate indicates that Estrogen Marketing can be the next big thing even in Country like India where Menopause has always been a hidden, un-discussed phase of women’s life.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129894835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Banking industry planning is act of socialism which depends upon collectivism and uses scant resources to achieve certain deliberate chosen ends. For the purpose, banks have to establish equilibrium between cost and employee's productivity along with global standards between demand and supply in prevailing socio, political and economic environment, and have to coordinate its pace and efficiency with ever changing technological and metamorphic environmental developments within and outside the political boundary. In order to become globally competitive Indian banking industry needs revolution especially in cost prone efficiency which can effectively mobilize and productively utilize public savings to optimum. It is a core truth that Indian modern universal banking can survive in global competition if it has employee's productivity and cost efficient new hybrid financial products and specialized services at par. This paper attempts to explore the relation between employee's potential to overall cost; and for the purpose pre recession period from 1997 to 2008 has been taken for study. For the same employee's productivity and employee's cost ratios comparison has been carried out between the traditional and modern hybrid banks. The outcome of study produced the fact that during the period of study performance of traditional social sector and private banks were below par in comparison to modern hybrid, universal foreign banks. The study also revealed the fact that by recognizing the shortcoming and later implementing measures, Indian banking industry minimizes the performance gap.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127832753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This, combined with an increased social awareness about the environment leads to a poor public image. Can companies involved in such sectors, which are seemingly extractive in nature, offset a large part of this unwanted negative image by indulging in positive and beneficial CSR practices? If these CSR practices are targeted mainly at the people directly affected by the activities, the companies do stand a greater chance of shedding bad publicity. The paper deals with the nature of CSR in the mining sector, with a special reference to the statutory compliance regarding CSR in India.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122532494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Islamic Microfinance Institutes (IMIs) should be established in every economically weak Muslim locality so that the poor Muslims could easily get financial services to meet their basic needs and develop a habit of saving which is quite absent from the culture of wage earners. The Islamic Microfinance for poverty alleviation is more inclusive than Conventional Microfinance because it minimizes the dependency on charity and facilitates the benefits to flow to the poorest of the poor and the destitute, which are not in a position to generate any income and wealth from the present day interest-ridden formal financial institutions. In this paper an attempt has been made to review the concept of Islamic Microfinance system and its present and future in India.","PeriodicalId":324801,"journal":{"name":"Al-Barkaat Journal of Finance & Management","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127962323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
