Sercu","doi":"10.46529/socioint.202138","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.46529/socioint.202138","url":null,"abstract":"More and more Flemish pupils are taking history courses in a foreign language. In that school subject, pupils develop historical insight and learn to report on historical events, their possible interpretations and the importance of those events for the further course of history in the CLIL-language. This study examined the extent to which CLIL and non-CLIL pupils from the second grade of secondary education (15-year-olds) can express this historical view (\"the voice of the historian\") in a French-medium written text in the context of history lessons. Two Flemish CLIL classes and one non-CLIL class were given an essay question containing three types of questions that historians usually ask themselves: „what are the objective facts?‟, „How can I interpret those facts?‟, „How do I estimate the importance of the events?‟. These questions were answered with respect to contents relating to the Great Voyages of Discovery and Reformation and Counter Reformation. A qualitative interpretative linguistic-semiotic discourse analytic approach, inspired by Halliday‟s Systemic Functional Linguistic Framework (Halliday & Mathiessen, 2014) and Martin & White‟s (2005) „evaluative language‟ framework, was used to analyze the data. Thus, our analysis involved checking whether the learners were able to realize the textual, interpersonal and ideational functions of written discourse in the CLIL-language (French) using a neutral, non-graduating register. The results based on an analysis of 36 essays show that students of that age can produce a coherent text in answer to the set essay questions and demonstrate the ability to use the voice of the historian within an educational context. Thus, they are able to address the three elements of the voice of the historian (facts, interpretations, importance) in their texts, at least at a level that can be expected of 15-year-olds. CLIL learners appear to be able to do this slightly better than non-CLIL learners. On the other hand, non-CLIL learners are able to realize the textual dimension, as defined within the SFL framework, somewhat better than CLIL learners, noting especially that CLIL learners use a somewhat more subjective, more graduating style, than non-CLIL learners. Overall, however, CLIL learners' texts score 5% higher than those of non-CLIL learners. This small-scale qualitative study on students‟ ability to write as historians in a foreign language within the context of CLIL-education demonstrates that the knowledge, skills and ways of reasoning to be acquired within history education can be acquired equally well, if not better, in CLIL-classes as in non-CLIL-classes. Awareness and understanding of the linguistic demands involved in the acquisition of the ability to realize the textual, ideational and interpersonal functions of historical reports in a foreign language may constitute an important step in further professionalizing CLIL-teachers. We hope our research may inform policy makers and teacher educators abou","PeriodicalId":321946,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of SOCIOINT 2021- 8th International Conference on Education and Education of Social Sciences","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123623767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this regard, the problem of high-quality training of foreigners is attracting more and more attention. The current study is relevant in the context of Chinese students training because the quantity of students from China receiving education at Russian universities takes the second place after students from the CIS member states. The article is devoted to the problem of teaching English to Chinese students at Russian non-linguistic universities. It is described some factors influencing the choice of teaching technologies aimed at developing and strengthening skills in different language activities. The study was conducted in three stages. The first stage was devoted to the study of pedagogical and methodological literature on the problem of adaptation to the new educational environment and the formation of communication skills in the process of teaching English to master’s degree students from the People's Republic of China studying at the Faculty of Economics and Management; the research methodology was determined. The second stage was aimed at identifying and implementing teaching technologies in the educational process in order to develop and consolidate skills and abilities in all types of speech activity when teaching English as a foreign language in accordance with the academic course working program; the necessary pedagogical conditions were determined. At the third stage, the results were summarized and analyzed, \"Guidelines for practical classes\" as well as \"Guidelines for independent work of master’s degree students” were to form new learning strategies, increase their motivation to learn a foreign language, as well as to solve some communicative, didactic and psychological problems associated with learning in a new educational environment. By performing the tasks based on the principles of active teaching methods, students gain new experience in solving communicative problems that are close to real life.","PeriodicalId":321946,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of SOCIOINT 2021- 8th International Conference on Education and Education of Social Sciences","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129833154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A language personality should possess the language competence that presupposes the possession of the theoretical norms of the language and their further use in the practice of speech use. The language personality must possess the phonetic and lexical grammatical norms of the language. Syntax, which gives the language a communicative and functional significance, is the highest level of the language system. It is in the syntax that the national specificity of the language manifests itself. Possession of it indicates the formation of a language personality. Complex thoughts that reflect the intellectual level of the individual are formed in the form of complex sentences. The emotionality and expressiveness of complex sentences are created due to the way they are organized and the use of syntactic figures of speech. Conversational and expressive elements in the structure of a complex sentence, due to their unintentional and informal nature, create additional shades of imagery and expressiveness in book speech. In the Mari language, the following elements of colloquial speech are introduced in the language of fiction to give a complex sentence imagery and expressiveness: conjunctions, particles, postpositions, interjections, onomatopoeic words and various types of repetitions. Complex and compound sentences are characterized by the use of all these elements of colloquial speech. Conjunctionless complex sentences, based on their structure, use the speech elements of repetition as an expressive means.","PeriodicalId":321946,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of SOCIOINT 2021- 8th International Conference on Education and Education of Social Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115473439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The types of bilingualism that are peculiar to the Russian Federation are determined, and the question of the bilingual system existing in school education is considered. The demographic situation in a number of republics is analyzed, which is important as it largely determines the most common types of bilingualism in the Russian Federation. According to the data obtained from the scientific works, various sociological surveys, the 2010 population census and other sources, it is concluded that national-Russian bilingualism predominates and that Russian-nationalism is very insignificant. Since the majority of the republics are dominated by the Russian and Russian-speaking population, and the Russian language is a domineering language, Russians do not need to learn or use national state languages. The statistics of the 2010 All-Russian Population Census shows that practically all titular ethnic groups in the republics know Russian with figures reaching 90-98%. The predominance of the Russian population creates a Russian-speaking environment, while the absence of a national-speaking environment is an additional factor in the language shift, i.e., the change of language. There has been an alarming trend towards the transition to Russian even in household communication and an increase in the proportion of those who consider it their native language. The family ceases to be a source of knowledge of the native language, as it used to be in the past, since only the older generation (grandmothers and grandfathers) can still speak their native language, and in most cases parents do not use it and cannot pass it on to their children. In such an environment, the school should become the main source of knowledge of native languages. Analyzing the situation in schools, we have to admit that instruction in native languages takes place, as a rule, in the primary grades of rural schools. In urban settings, subjects taught in national languages are virtually absent. In some regions of the Russian Federation such school subjects as national language and national literature are usually studied in national languages, while, according to scientists, it is already possible to teach such subjects as history, geography, labor, singing, and physical education in national languages of the republics. In this regard, the article analyzes the project „Multicultural educational model of the Republic of Tatarstan‟, the concept of which is based on functional bilingualism and multilingualism. The authors come to the conclusion of the impossibility of bilingual school education in Russia at the present time.","PeriodicalId":321946,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of SOCIOINT 2021- 8th International Conference on Education and Education of Social Sciences","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114982353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To consider and study the concept of scientific and methodological support and formulate its definition in relation to preparation for subject Olympiads, it is necessary to study the main approaches to pedagogical strategy in the process of scientific and methodological support in preparation for subject Olympiads in higher education. Results. The main pedagogical approaches that contribute to improving the quality of preparation of participants for subject Olympiads in universities are being studied. It is noted that any pedagogical activity is characterized by the presence of a clearly defined goal, personally significant for the teacher carrying out this activity, and is motivated by the motives arising from it. Competent educational activity in the process of preparing for the Olympiad in any subject can be successfully carried out only when the scientific and methodological base clearly defines and solves specific educational Olympiad tasks. Conclusion. The article discusses the theoretical and practically significant components of high-quality and competent scientific and methodological support in preparation for subject Olympiads in higher education. The authors update and present the theoretical and practical substantiations of the verified scientific and methodological regulation, designed to improve the preparation of participants in the Olympiads. The main pedagogical approaches that contribute to improving the quality of preparation of participants for subject Olympiads in universities are highlighted.","PeriodicalId":321946,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of SOCIOINT 2021- 8th International Conference on Education and Education of Social Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125496967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A look at the Marxist theory of socialism from this angle allows it to be interpreted as a special type of culture.
