The proposed control method is keeping the zero voltage switching (ZVS) switches off until snubber capacitors discharged. This method is simple and effectively achieves ZVS at light load. Without adding any auxiliary resonant component, it can provide compact and high efficient converter. Furthermore, by taking voltage fluctuation into consideration, the control method can achieve high reliability. The DC-link capacitor size depends on the current RMS value, in particular, if the drive is supplied by a DC source, the current requested to the capacitor is basically determined by inverter input current AC component. The analytical computation of the capacitor current RMS value in the DC link of a voltage source PWM inverter, driving an induction motor, is extended from the common 3-phase systems to multiphase systems in general. In particular the six-phase-double star case has been analyzed in detail. The consistency of the analytical results have been tested through digital simulations. In the proposed adhesion control methods, the wheel speed is required. However, in the railway field, the PG used for the wheel speed measurement is attached on the main motor and with only 60 pulse-per-revolution (ppr). Therefore, in the low-speed region, the speed value cannot be obtained in each control period. To solve this problem, a disturbance-instantaneous speed observer is proposed in this paper. Power coefficient C/sub p/, which has the optimum point, depends on a tip speed ratio (TSR). If we can adjust the angular velocity of WTG to wind speed with the frequency converter, we can realize the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for WTG. Firstly, this paper explains a mechanism of wind power capture and necessity of flywheel. Secondly, we compare the difference between power ratio with and without a flywheel. We compare between fixed speed rotation operation and MPPT operation with data of the Tappi-zaki WTG system. As a result, a total power increase of up to 2 times has been obtained when the average wind speed is around 6.2 m/s (rated power is 275 kW). Finally, we proposed a simple small WTG system with permanent magnet type synchronous generator (rated power is 150 W) and wind turbine of 3-blades (rotor diameter is 1.24 m). The necessity, the advantages and disadvantages of this type PWM rectifier in the application are discussed. Then, a new power circuit topology and modulation scheme to eliminate or mitigate the disadvantages and obtain further new advantages of the PWM-current-source-type PFC rectifier are introduced. The features of the new rectifier obtained by the new PWM scheme have been confirmed through experimental results obtained from a 12 kW real product. To provide the soft-switching capability under the pulse width modulation for a line-commutated thyristor inverter, an auxiliary resonant switch to bypass the current on the DC side is connected across the DC input of a thyristor inverter. The arrangement tested, using two insulated-gate bipolar transistors and a single-phase thyristor bridge, is implemented to investigate the operation under the sinusoidal pulse width modulation. The operation is also simulated using PSpice. The only existing method is for feedback control of the phase angle between input voltage and current to be zero. The control procedure is complex. This paper reports a newly developed forward control scheme for unity power factor control of the synchronous machine. In case of conventional modulation methods, there is a temperature difference between the power devices of the four arms. This comes from unequal conducting and switching losses of the devices. Our proposed method eliminates the temperature difference by interchanging the lead and lag arms of the inverter every few cycles. We have confirmed the effect of the new modulation method by MATLAB simulation.
