While negative corruption generally affects the economic development of the country or market and impacts people’s trust in individuals and institutions, the relationship between corruption and political participation remains unclear. On the one hand, there is a theoretical argument that corruption discourages political participation and by its nature excludes citizens from the political process. On the other hand, there is a theoretical assertion that, on the contrary, it leads to political participation in which a voter has the opportunity to replace a corrupt politician in the elections. In most cases, research on corruption and political participation is limited to the perception of corruption on the one hand and voter turnout on the other. However, both corruption and political participation can take many forms. The article therefore distinguishes between three forms of corruption and examines their impact not only on participation in elections, but also on political meetings, community meetings and protests. Logistic regression analysis is performed and eight regression models are constructed. The research is focused on two South American countries – Venezuela and Chile. Due to the case selection, the article uses data on an individual level from the Latin American Public Opinion Project. The conclusions are that while the perception of corruption discourages political participation in both countries, experience of corruption in Venezuela, a country in which every fifth citizen encounters bribery, on the contrary leads to political mobilization. This contrasts with Chile, where this variable was not statistically significant at all.","PeriodicalId":319543,"journal":{"name":"Acta FF","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126136611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It seeks to explain how social capital was reproduced in horizontal and vertical ties and what role reciprocity played. However, reciprocity is viewed primarily in the narrow context of social capital theory. Texts on godparenthood usually point to relationships based purely on utilitarian grounds. They typically lack support in social science theory and the terminology used is rarely discussed in detail. Drawing on basic texts from social capital theory or anthropology and history (in the case of godparenthood), the aim of the present text is to outline how social capital can be practically built through godparent relationships. In the introductory section, the basic structure of the reciprocity process is presented. The following passages focus specifically on the application of reciprocity in godparent relationships. The paper first seeks to answer a question that follows quite organically from the previous theoretical introduction. How is it possible that the so-called integrative ties (trust or solidarity) developed based on godparent ties, which were often purposively concluded and characterised by a negotiated and fully institutionalised type of exchange?","PeriodicalId":319543,"journal":{"name":"Acta FF","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121593803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The emerging water crisis requires new political arrangements, new technological solutions and the development of new water supply chains. Among the possible political-diplomatic answers, water trade may be a viable option, as water abundant countries could distribute resources by commercializing their water surplus. Water trade, however, faces serious obstacles. Dependence of different countries on states that have water surplus, political leverage and the possible opportunity when external powers could control the essentially important human needs are all examples of potential risks. These threats hinder the development of interstate water trade cooperation and orient countries struggling with water shortages towards domestic solutions. This study attempts to examine the practice of water scarcity and water diplomacy, while also applies the Turkish experience as a case study for demonstrating constraints of water trade. The paper will hopefully shed light on the threats posed by global and regional water scarcity and draw attention to the opportunities and limitations of water commercialization. The aim of our study is to outline the issues related to the distribution and trade of water, furthermore to present the problems of water as a product. Our research focuses primarily on Turkey, which has also become involved in water trade, but the story still ended in failure.","PeriodicalId":319543,"journal":{"name":"Acta FF","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129619463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper explores the language in video titles on the pornographic site Pornhub using a corpus-driven approach. A corpus of 17,000 titles compiled specifically for the purposes of the study yielded a word list, which, together with an interdisciplinary literature review, was used to formulate two research questions. With gender as a key variable, the first research question focuses on the linguistic representation of agency by looking at verb objects, while the second examines expressions (nouns and adjectives) used to ascribe roles to the participants. A quantitative evaluation of the data indicates an interplay between gender and the observed features in both questions. The lexicalisation of agency was found to be more complex than previously thought; nine categories were found, and the role of passive voice differed depending on gender. As for gender characterisation, descriptions of women’s roles are not only more frequent but also more heterogenous and evaluative compared to those of men.","PeriodicalId":319543,"journal":{"name":"Acta FF","volume":"263 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123102135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
